  • Patent number: 5353573
Abstract: A machine and method for forming, filling and sealing closed individual pinch pouches includes a support for holding a continuous supply of material having a solid bleached sulfate board or paper board surface and a heat sealable plastic coating on one side. A folding apparatus folds the web material onto itself with the heat sealable surface facing itself with a gusset at the fold. Drive rollers pull the material from the source through the folding apparatus. Heating bars form a seal between selected portions of the material by sealing the heat sealable surfaces at intermittent portions. A cutter cuts the material through the seal and forms a blank having opposed sealed edges extending to the gusset and an open edge opposite the gusset. A hammer pushes the gusset of the blank inward to spread apart opposed surfaces of the blank. An injector forces a flowable substance into the blank through the open edge.

Abstract: Control of a fuel rate and an air rate delivered to an exhaust gas heater over successive control periods by determining and periodically updating a desired heater air quantity and a desired heater air/fuel ratio, by commanding an air rate in accord with the desired heater air quantity, by adjusting the commanded air rate in accord with a sensed actual air rate, and by commanding a fuel quantity in accord with the desired heater air/fuel ratio and the sensed actual air rate or the desired heater air quantity. A quantity of excess fuel is purged from the system at the end of a control period and provided in usable form to the engine. Compensation for fuel residue in the system is made at the start of subsequent control periods.

  • Patent number: 5353592
Abstract: A control system and method maintains engine air/fuel operation near stoichiometry in response to exhaust gas oxygen sensors positioned both upstream and downstream of a catalytic converter. A converter efficiency test cycle is generated during air/fuel feedback control after engine operation occurs in a plurality of airflow ranges for a period determined by a count in transitions of a feedback variable derived from the upstream sensor. Upon each transition in the downstream sensor, the measurement of inducted airflow at which such transition occurred is accumulated. At the end of the test cycle, converter efficiency is determined by an average of such airflow accumulations.

  • Patent number: 5353593
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hydro-mechanical or electro-hydro-mechanical control system utilized for positioning a mechanical device. The control system incorporates a control valve for selectively controlling the flow of hydraulic fluid to input ports of a power output transducer in response to a mechanically applied input signal. The power output transducer is then utilized to position a mechanical device. The control system is a closed loop circuit adapted to supply hydraulic fluid at a desired supply pressure to the control valve. The supply pressure is varied in relation to the absolute value of the pressure differential or load pressure exerted across the input ports of the power output transducer. A pressure regulating apparatus is provided for selectively regulating the supply pressure to a value that is nominally equal to the absolute value of the load pressure summed with a preselected supplemental pressure value across the regulating apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5353596
Abstract: A relatively hot and a relatively cold chamber are air evacuated and contain a low boiling point liquid. The temperature differential between the chambers results in a vapor pressure differential between the chambers. The vapor pressures inside the chambers transmit a vector force to a movable wall of each of the chambers. The vapor pressures in the chambers are equalized intermittently by an intermittent communication between the chambers. The chambers are positioned relative to each other so that the movable wall of one chamber transmits an opposing vector force to the movable wall of the other chamber. This brings the walls to a position which is determined by the the resultant of the opposing vector forces upon the walls. When the resultant of the vector forces changes during the intermittent communication between the chambers the movable walls change their position. The movements of the walls between different positions perform useful work through standard mechanical links to a force receiving means.

  • Patent number: 5353597
Abstract: An inlet air cooling system for natural gas compression. The system provides both inlet air refrigeration for the internal combustion engine and additional natural gas compression. Also provided is a leakage control system for any natural gas or hydrocarbon leakage from the combined cycle system. The leakage is collected and introduced into a low pressure portion of the engine air intake system where it is burned along with the normal engine fuel. An alternate embodiment uses the compressed natural gas to drive an expansion turbine which provides additional power to the inlet air turbocharger.
