The apparatus combines for the first time electric air conditioning reheat and solar energy with desiccant technology, thereby furnishing conditioned air at an 80% reduction of energy cost. The apparatus for the first time allows the use of waste oil heat to furnish conditioned air at an 80% reduction in energy cost.

The present machine, with only a single seaming roll, closes seams through 45.degree. to 90.degree. on an advancing stroke, and burnishes them on the return stroke. The machine functions without adjustment throughout substantially the entire range of sheet metal thicknesses normally utilized. Of particular advantage in manufacturing duct sections having integral end flanges, only an initial short length of seam need be peened manually before the duct elements to be seemed are clamped in place for completion. A vacuum is created inside the die to avoid air pockets between the outer surface of the sleeve and the inner surface of the die and the magnetic coil is energized to create a magnetic field to expand the sleeve against the inner surface of the die. The process may also be used to form a composite sleeve having an outer layer of material unresponsive to the magnetic field and an inner layer of electrically conductive material.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for necking tubular members such as cans utilizes an inner die that expands to support a neck portion to be formed by an outer die that travels around the neck. The inner die has a plurality of first die elements which may be retracted after the neck is formed so that the inner die may be removed. Drive assemblies operate each of the inner and outer dies, and the drive assembly for the inner die operates to differentially drive the first die elements to allow nesting to occur. Preferably, the inner drive assembly employs a reciprocally retracting cam, and the first die elements have cam followers to allow reciprocation. A wedge cam can be used to support the first die element sin the expanded configuration, and a wedge drive moves the wedge cam into and out of position.

Each link includes an upper block connected to the frame, a shaft extending from the upper block and rotatable therein and threaded into a lower block pivoted to the movable jaw. The shaft has a socket connection in the upper end thereof accessible through an opening in the upper block.

A heating coil (40) is further provided to vary the temperature of the sensor unit (14). If conductance is detected by the conductance sensor (30), then the temperature is obtained from the temperature sensor (32) and compared by the control unit (18) to a saturation temperature calculated based on pressure readings from the pressure (34). If the temperature exceeds the saturation temperature by a predetermined amount, the control unit (18) indicates the presence of sodium hydroxide on a display unit (29).

    Abstract: A method for constructing a sensor, in particular an air mass sensor, is proposed, where at least one sensor element is structured from a wafer. The sensor element is separated from the wafer and placed on a substrate. In the course of structuring the sensor element by means of anisotropic etching, the outwardly located edges of the sensor element are simultaneously anisotropically etched, so that the sensor element is only connected with the wafer from which it has been structured by thin bridges, which are cut for separating the sensor element. By means of anisotropic etching an opening is made in a second wafer, which has a size corresponding to the geometric dimensions of the sensor element. To construct the sensor, the sensor element is inserted into the opening of the second wafer.

The resilient supporting steel sheet contains a resilient section, which can be the resilient steel sheet itself or in the form of a row of through holes or a corrugated section. A detector is mounted on the resilient supporting steel sheet to detect the vibration as the sample is being rotated during testing.

    Abstract: A digital capacitive accelerometer is disclosed as having a fixed plate mounted on a support member and a sprung plate resiliently mounted in spaced relationship to the fixed plate to form a capacitor. A voltage is connected across the plates to establish an electrostatic force that pulls the sprung plate toward the fixed plate. The voltage is incrementally increased, pulling the sprung plate incrementally toward the fixed plate. When a pull-in voltage level is reached, the electrostatic force is of sufficient magnitude to abruptly pull the sprung plate across the remaining distance separating it from the fixed plate, and a pull-in detection signal is generated by detecting a current pulse as the gap collapses. The plates are then released, and another incrementing cycle is initiated. The pull-in voltage is a function of the initial capacitor gap which in turn is determined by the acceleration the device is experiencing.

    Abstract: An acceleration measuring system wherein acceleration transducers are mounted on a turntable supported by an air bearing and directly driven by a brushless motor. The output signals generated by the acceleration transducers are amplified by amplifiers mounted on the turntable and the output signals are converted to digital signals by an analog-to-digital converter also mounted on the turntable. The digital signals are modulated into AC signals by a modulator also mounted on the table and then transmitted to a demodulator on a fixed portion of the system through a rotary transformer. The output of the demodulator representing the acceleration signal is applied to digital-to-analog converters and also to a binary coded decimal converter. In an alternative embodiment, the acceleration transducers are mounted on individual separate turntables which in turn are mounted on a primary turntable.

Force sensor elements, preferably in the form of bending beams, are incorporated into the torque joint and are deflected by the reaction torque moment applied to the motor housing. These bending beams provide an output signal that is proportional to the mass through-flow through the apparatus.

A change in magnetic permeability is detected in terms of a change in self-inductance of the coils. The welded ends of the joining member are disposed outside the mounting portion of the torque transmitting member in a longitudinal direction of the shaft, so that the measurable torque range of the torque sensor can be enlarged.

    Abstract: An fluid sampling system allows sampling of radioactive liquid without spillage. A feed tank is connected to a liquid transfer jet powered by a pumping chamber pressurized by compressed air. The liquid is pumped upwardly into a sampling jet of a venturi design having a lumen with an inlet, an outlet, a constricted middle portion, and a port located above the constricted middle portion. The liquid is passed under pressure through the constricted portion causing its velocity to increase and its pressure to decreased, thereby preventing liquid from escaping. A septum sealing the port can be pierced by a two pointed hollow needle leading into a sample bottle also sealed by a pierceable septum affixed to one end. The bottle is evacuated by flow through the sample jet, cyclic variation in the sampler jet pressure periodically leaves the evacuated bottle with lower pressure than that of the port, thus causing solution to pass into the bottle.
