Patent number: H1365Abstract: A new hybrid gun barrel can be successfully used with modern hotter propellants without unacceptable erosion of the breech section of the gun barrel and while retaining the accuracy and ballistic characteristics of a fully rifled gun barrel. The gun barrel comprises a smooth bore breech section and a longer gain twist rifled muzzle section. The smooth bore breech section can better withstand the high heat and pressure of modern hotter propellants than prior art rifled breech sections. The smooth bore breech section will always be less than one-third the total length of the gun barrel and preferably less than one-fifth the total length of the gun barrel. It can be made of a different material than the rifled muzzle section and can be coated with a material harder than the rest of the gun barrel.Type: GrantFiled: February 4, 1994Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the Air ForceInventors: Michael R. Patent number: H1371Abstract: An underwater sensing system has a trunk cable that transmits a plurality clock signals from its first end to its second end. A plurality of signal handling nodes are installed successively along the trunk cable in a spaced apart relationship. Each of a plurality of linear sensor arrays extend from one signal handling node. Each sensor in the sensor arrays receives the clock signals and generates a data output signal in response thereto at specifically ordered time sampled intervals based on a count of the clock signals. The data output signals are transmitted to the one signal handling node associated with the sensor array. At each of the signal handling nodes, a multiplexer interleaves the data output signals received from its sensor array in a continual throughput, time-division multiplexed fashion with concatenated data output signals received from the next successive signal handling node located further from the first end of the trunk cable.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 1993Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Homer P. Patent number: H1372Abstract: A method for horizontal mating of multiple floating sections of an offshore platform using a single point mooring is disclosed. The single point mooring is installed at a predetermined mating site. The first section of the platform is transported to the mating site. Anchor handling vessels tow the section to the single point mooring and connect it to that mooring. Subsequent sections of the platform are then transported to the mating site while an anchor handling vessel attends to the horizontally floating moored sections. When all sections have been mated together at the mating site, the platform is disconnected from the single point mooring and towed to the installation site.Type: GrantFiled: July 12, 1993Date of Patent: November 1, 1994Assignee: Exxon Production Research CompanyInventors: Maynard S.
