  • Patent number: 5361484
Abstract: A method of guiding rivets around a small radius curve includes sending the rivet through a rivet supply line into a rivet brake and staging tube where it is held until the rivet hole is drilled. The rivet is then blown into a curved, arched slot in a rivet guide shoe that fits into a recess in a movable shuttle body. The shuttle body is first moved to position a drill cavity in line with a drill which drills the hole. The shuttle is then moved to align the curved, arched slot in the rivet guide shoe with the rivet brake and staging tube to receive the rivet and convey it around the curved slot and into a rivet guide tube fitted into the far end of the slot. The rivet guide tube has an axial passage equal in diameter to the diameter of the curved, arched slot, so the rivet encounters no edges or other discontinuities in the transition from the slot to the guide tube. The rivet is guided into the guide tube by an ear on the upper end of the guide tube.

  • Patent number: 5361508
Abstract: A body, having a straight-edged rule fixed thereto, and transverse thereto, slidably receives a pair of blocks which also have straight-edged rules fixed thereto. All the rules are parallel, and one thereof is used to engage a proximate wall surface, while the other two are adjustably set to take the measure across a last-laid tile. Then, the first, which engages the wall surface is fully retracted, while the adjustably-set other two rules are advanced, with the body, to the wall surface. The outermost rule, then, along its straight edge, defines whereat a next tile is to be cut to fit an undersized space.

  • Patent number: 5361513
Abstract: The subject invention is an integrated process for economically drying and briquetting coal to produce strong briquettes. The subject invention utilizes a conditioner to output dried coal having a selected moisture content and temperature and mean particle size and size distribution for briquetting. The conditioner reduces the moisture content of coal particles by contacting them with steam. The preferred conditioner fluidizes a bed of coal particles with steam generated during the coal drying process. The moisture content of the dried coal is in the form of steam which fills the pores and inter-particle void spaces of the coal particles. The moisture content of the dried coal is controlled by supplying heat to heat exchange tubes in the coal bed in response to coal bed temperature. The bed temperature is related to the moisture content of the dried coal.

  • Patent number: 5361514
Abstract: The removal of organics and volatile metals from soils using thermal desorption comprises moving contaminated materials, positioned on a belt conveyor, through a chamber (32) under oxygen conditions, temperature conditions, and residence time effective to substantially avoid incineration of the contaminants, while volatilizing the contaminants and producing a processed material that is substantially decontaminated, where the volatilized contaminants are carried from the chamber (32) by a transport gas which is passed through a packed tower (70) where quench/scrubbing liquid flows countercurrent to gas flow, for producing a substantially cleaned gas and a contaminated liquid concentrate. The gas may be passed through a further gas cleaning system (86) prior to discharge into the atmosphere, while the liquid concentrate is passed through a water treatment system (90) for producing substantially cleaned water which may be passed through an air cooler (92) and recycled back to cool the processed material.

  • Patent number: 5361515
Abstract: The method and apparatus operate to complete the following stages. At the first stage the coating is held at room temperature in the time interval from 20 s to 1 hour, depending on the type of polymer coating. At the second stage the coating is held at an elevated temperature under excessive pressure, sufficient for suppressing propagation of microcracks in such time interval so that at reaching the predetermined protective properties the thermodestruction of the polymer coating does not occur. At the third stage performed is the cooling of the coating to room temperature. According to the invention, the excessive pressure is built up at the first stage and maintained at the cooling stage. The invention may find application in manufacture of integrated circuits, as well as for the formation of thin polymer insulation coatings.

  • Patent number: 5361516
Abstract: Device and method for drying pants wrinkle-free by closing the waist and leg openings of the pants and by blowing pressurized air into the pants through an opening in an impermeable member which supports the waist of the pants. Pressurized air inside the pants simultaneously stretches the pants free of wrinkles and causes air to flow through the permeable pants to carry away moisture. A portable hair dryer preferably generates a static pressure of from 0.1 inches (2.5 mm) of water to 0.3 inches (7.6 mm) of water in order to stretch wrinkles from the pants without overly stretching any part of them. The impermeable member supporting the pants is preferably an adjustable disk assembly capable of fitting a large size range of pants, which is hung from a clothes line by a cord with a hook.
