  • Patent number: 5361574
Abstract: In conveying fibers (20) pneumatically to the fiber collection surface of an open-end spinning element, the fibers (20) fed into the fiber feeding channel (4) are detached from the wall (42) of the fiber feeding channel (4)which follows the fiber-guiding peripheral wall (12) of the opener roller (10) preceding the fiber feeding channel (4) and are fed to the zone of high flow speed. • Patent number: 5361576
Abstract: In a method for operating a silo combustion chamber (A) of a gas turbine, this combustion chamber is equipped with a number of premixing burners (B), these burners being arranged so that they are subdivided in groups within the combustion chamber (A). At least one group is equipped with controllable premixing burners. Very high demands are made on the quality of the combustion during the operation of such a combustion chamber (A), particularly in the full-load range, in order to meet the stringent NO.sub.x emission regulations. For this purpose, the last group to be switched on is controlled at full load in accordance with the ambient conditions. A load control system also acts at part load. By this means, it is possible to prevent a fluctuation of the NO.sub.x emissions due to the varying ambient conditions.

  • Patent number: 5361578
Abstract: A fuel nozzle assembly is provided having the capability of burning either gaseous or liquid fuel, or both simultaneously, along with steam injection. The nozzle has a nozzle body that is attached to a nozzle cap by inner, outer and middle sleeves. The sleeves form inner and outer concentric annular conduits between themselves for directing the flow of gaseous fuel and steam from the fuel and steam inlet ports to the outlet ports. In addition, the inner sleeve forms a central chamber in which an oil fuel nozzle is disposed. Radial passages in the nozzle body allow cooling air to flow over the oil nozzle and through the oil outlet port, thereby preventing coking at the nozzle tip. The fuel nozzle assembly is originally built, and the nozzle cap is replaced, by sliding the sleeves forward and aft on the assembly so as to gain access to the next innermost sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5361581
Abstract: An air-breathing pulsed jet engine for aircraft propulsion which employs a piston compressor rather than much more expensive axial or centrifugal compressors and turbines employed by conventional turbojet engines. The engine is similar to the common two-cycle gasoline engine, except its cylinder head comprises a jet nozzle with an internal pressure-activated nozzle-blocking valve. A spring keeps this valve closed during the engine's compression stroke when the piston, connected to a crankshaft and flywheels by a connecting rod, is forced by the moment-of-inertia of the flywheels toward the cylinder head. When ignition and combustion of the compressed air and fuel occurs slightly before the piston reaches the top of its stroke, the much greater pressures within the engine's combustion chamber force the valve to pivot open. This allows a jet of combustion gases to be released through the jet nozzle into the atmosphere.

  • Patent number: 5361586
Abstract: A gas turbine combustor having a pre-mixing zone and a combustion zone separated by a barrier plate. A plurality of concentrically arranged annular passages, into which lean mixtures of fuel and air are introduced, are disposed in the pre-mixing zone. Each of the annular passages has a discharge end in which a plurality of swirlers are circumferentially arranged that allow fuel/air mixtures flowing through the annular passages to enter the combustion zone, the swirlers acting as flame holders. A toroidal fuel manifold upstream of each of the annular passages allows the fuel/air ratio in each annular passage to be individually controlled. The firing temperature of the combustor is increased by sequentially supplying fuel to each annular passage in turn, with the innermost passages being supplied with fuel first. A pilot fuel assembly is centrally disposed with respect to the annular passages and has swirler vanes and an ignitor.

  • Patent number: 5361611
Abstract: A locking device used to secure a fishing rod and reel assembly to another object, such as an automobile, boat or the like. The locking device includes a hasp that closes around a fishing rod and the elongated neck of a fishing reel that extends from the fishing rod. The hasp includes apertures that can accept a padlock, wherein the padlock prevents the hasp from being removed from around the fishing rod and reel assembly. When closed around the fishing rod and reel assembly, the hasp independently engages both the fishing rod and the fishing reel. The hasp is mechanically attached to an object such as an automobile or boat, as such the hasp joins the fishing rod and reel assembly to the object, preventing the casual theft of the rod and reel assembly.

  • Patent number: 5361613
Abstract: A vehicle anti-theft device including a gear shifter locking device for enclosing the handle of a vehicle gear shifter therein to prevent the usual shifting of the gear shifter, and a steering wheel locking device to prevent or limit the usual turning of the vehicle steering wheel. The gear shifter locking device includes two mating housing parts for enclosing the gear shifter handle therein, and a bar connecting the housing parts together, one bar end portion being slideably secured to one housing part, and the other housing part being rotatably secured to the opposite bar end portion. A locking mechanism coacts with the bar to lock the housing parts together. A coil spring is tensioned against the bar so that the two housing parts automatically separate apart from each other when unlocked by a key-operated lock mounted on one housing part. The housing parts can be provided with downwardly extending skirt portions to enclose the handle-carrying rod portion of the gear shifter.

  • Patent number: 5361614
Abstract: A pin-tumbler lock and method of use thereof has an inside cylinder and conventional outside cylinder. The inside cylinder operates with a pin-tumbler key but cannot be operated by the key that operates the outside cylinder. The pin-tumbler key is retained automatically in the inside cylinder once inserted but can be manually released by using an appropriate tool. The inside cylinder retains the pin-tumbler key because the pins become misaligned when the pin-tumbler key is inserted. Previous locks can be a fire hazard or can be burglarized too easily.

  • Patent number: 5361615
Abstract: An apparatus used for measuring a holding force expected to be applied to a pressure member of a press, before the lower and upper dies and the pressure member are installed on the press. The apparatus includes a measuring member to be placed on cushion pins of the press associated with a fluid-actuated cylinder via a cushion pad. A sensing element is disposed on the measuring member or a main slide carrying the upper die, such that the holding force produced by force applying means which includes the cylinder acts on the sensing element, when the measuring member is lowered with the sensing element by the main slide in its downward movement towards a bolster on which the lower due is fixed. A load detecting device is disposed on the sensing element for detecting the holding force acting on the latter. The apparatus also includes a device for recording the holding force as detected by the load detecting device.

  • Patent number: 5361620
Abstract: A hemming device comprises a partly cylindrical member rotatably disposed in a partly cylindrical channel of a housing block. The partly cylindrical member includes an outer surface comprising an arcuate surface portion and a planar surface portion. The housing block is disposed in a press. A sheet of metal having an upset edge to be hemmed to positioned with the edge on the planar surface which is set to an initial position. A striker is attached to a press platen of the press, whereby when the press is lowered the striker contacts the sheet forcing it against the planar surface which cause the edge to bend to an obtuse angle. As the striker continues to move downwardly, the striker contacts the partly cylindrical member (i.e., the rocker) causing it to rotate thereby further bending the edge of the sheet until a hem is formed thereat.
