  • Patent number: 5617691
Abstract: A fitting structure of a plurality of rectangular parallelopipedal blocks comprising concavo-convexities formed on the surfaces of each of the blocks. The concavo-convexities are formed on each surface of the block on the basis of a figure which is in symmetry of rotation per 90.degree. round the center of a regular square or is in symmetry of rotation per 180.degree. round the center of a rectangle, and is complementarily in symmetry of axis with respect to a center of the rectangle line passing through the center and being in parallel with a side of the regular square or rectangle. Predetermined congruence is imparted to the figures on the surfaces depending on various shapes of the blocks. Fitting of the concavo-convexities of the surfaces of the adjacent blocks is always ensured when each block is aligned so that its thickness and its length are in conformity. The surfaces of adjacent blocks can be connected without the necessity of considering the direction of each block.

  • Patent number: 5617692
Abstract: A structure derives its structural strength and integrity entirely from interlocked pultruded composite members. The disclosed techniques can be used in a wide variety of applications including replacement for steel frame structures and is especially useful where the electrical properties of steel are undesirable, such as in high voltage transmission towers. Two types of pultrusions are used as structural members to build the entire structure. Lock-in butt joints between all members are made by inserting the compressed ends of the resilient bifurcations of the crossmembers into openings in the receiving member, where they expand to lock in place and are blocked against subsequent compression by inserts. Channels spanning the entire column lengths permit insertion of a crossmember anywhere along the channel where there is an access opening.

  • Patent number: 5617719
Abstract: A vapor-air steam engine is described which operates at high pressure and utilizes a working fluid consisting of a mixture of compressed air, fuel combustion products and steam. In the new cycle described working fluid is provided at constant pressure and temperatures. Combustion air is supplied adiabatically by one or more stages of compression. Fuel is injected at pressure as needed. From 40% to all of compressed air is burned. Water is discretely injected at high pressure to produce steam and thus provide an inert high specific heat diluent required for internal cooling of an internal combustion turbine or other type system. The use of extensive water injection inhibits the formation of pollutants, increases the efficiency and horsepower of an engine, and reduces specific fuel consumption. The new cycle may also be operated open or closed; in the latter case, water may be recouped via condensation for regenerative reuse.

EGR induction is obtained via either low pressure (ambient) induction to the system intake, or via venturi or passive pump induction into the pressurized intake. Bypassing of the EGR cooler is used to reduce condensation and fouling in the EGR cooler and to provide warmer air to reduce light load and cold ambient hydrocarbon production. A passive or catalyzed particulate trap and crankshaft driven supercharger boosting system are provided to address engine response deterioration and particulate increase problems associated with EGR.

  • Patent number: 5617729
Abstract: This invention presents an air condition utility system for providing air condition to sets of buildings, with each building having a number of amended air conditioning systems, by repeatedly circulating a refrigerant in a closed loop. Each station is connected to an assigned set of buildings of a district by high-pressure lines and low-pressure lines. High-pressure lines are used to transfer the refrigerant, in a liquid stage, from a station to each building that is served by the station. Upon providing air condition to a building, the refrigerant loses pressure and returns in a partial-gas partial-liquid stage through downwardly-sloped low-pressure lines from the building to the station. In the station, the refrigerant is pressurized by passing through a number of compressor units and again leaves the station in a liquid form through the high-pressure lines.

Abstract: If an engine is stopped with a switch of an air-conditioner being on, such state is memorized. When the engine is started after dead soak, a compressor is driven automatically until a crank shaft has driven several revolutions to discharge liquid refrigerant from the compressor without liquid-compressing noise. When the engine starts, the compressor is deactivated until the air-conditioner switch is turned on by a driver.

Abstract: In a refrigerant recovery/recycling apparatus, a primary vapor-type filter/dryer is arranged downstream of the system inlet which receives recovered vapor refrigerant. The filter/dryer is provided with isolation valves upstream and downstream thereof so as to allow replacement of the cores. An oil separator is located downstream of the primary filter/dryer. To prevent excessive inlet pressures to the compressor of the recovery apparatus, a crankcase pressure regulator is provided upstream of the compressor inlet, in addition to high-and low-pressure shut-off switches. Furthermore, an oil separator is provided at the compressor outlet to remove any compressor oil from the superheated vapor refrigerant emerging from the compressor and returning that oil to the compressor via a return line. Condensed liquid refrigerant is provided to the recycling apparatus of the system by first passing through a second or recirculation filter/dryer, again one of conventional construction with replaceable filter cores.

  • Patent number: 5617732
Abstract: An automotive air conditioning system is provided. The air conditioning system includes an air conditioning compressor. A reservoir having fluid is provided. A pump is interconnected with the reservoir and operatively interconnected with and driven by an engine of a vehicle. The pressure chamber is interconnected with the pump and receives fluid from the pump. A fluid drive element, located relative to the pressure chamber, and interconnected with the air conditioning compressor, converts a passage of pressurized fluid therethrough into mechanical driving force for driving the air conditioning compressor. A regulator maintains a selected level of pressure in the pressure chamber and diverts excess fluid from the pressure chamber to the reservoir so that a constant air conditioning compressor driving speed is maintained.

  • Patent number: 5617737
Abstract: A capillary twisted fluted tube is formed with an interior helical capillary flute and associated interior helical crest and a complementary exterior helical crest and flute, respectively. Liquid rises in the interior capillary flute and is expelled at or near the top of the tube in fine droplets that promote mass transfer efficiencies as a result of improved vapor-equilibrium. A capillary fluted tube placed in a helical groove of a heat insulating material to expose only one side of the tube to hot combustion products promotes increased capillary rise on one side of the tube with increased expulsion and spatter of liquid from the capillary channel. Exterior tube heat transfer is enhanced by enclosing the tube in a second tube or forming the tube into a winding and enclosing the winding in a cylinder. Contact of the exterior tube crests with the enclosing tube or cylinder improves heat transfer efficiencies as a result of confined flow of heat transfer fluid within the enclosing tube or cylinder.
