  • Patent number: 5617739
Abstract: A method and device is disclosed for removing residual oil and other contaminants from the refrigerant stream flowing to low-temperature stages of a cryogenic refrigerator. A stream of vapor and liquid refrigerant coming from an air-cooled condenser is injected into a cyclone chamber [32] through the inlet tube [34]. While the liquid drains down a conical section [36] and out through a liquid line [38], the vapor phase moves up into a packing of metal platelets [42] which is cooled by a returning stream of cold vapor passing through a tube [48] wrapped around the column. A portion of the vapor condenses on the platelets and is maintained in equilibrium with the vapor. Since high-molecular-weight contaminants are more soluble in the liquid phase, they are carried down the column with the drops of condensate and are swept out with the liquid fraction through the liquid line [38].

  • Patent number: 5617741
Abstract: Nitrogen is removed from a natural gas feed stream by a cryogenic distillation process in which said feed stream is fed to a primary column of a distillation column system having a primary column and a secondary column fed from and operating at substantially the same pressure as the primary column. At least a portion of a primary column methane-rich bottoms liquid is expanded and at least partially vaporized in heat exchange with a condensing primary column nitrogen-enriched vapor. The at least partially condensed primary column nitrogen-enriched vapor is returned to the primary column to provide higher temperature reflux to the distillation column system. A secondary column methane-rich bottoms liquid is at least partially vaporized in heat exchange with a condensing nitrogen-rich overhead vapor to produce a further methane-rich product.

  • Patent number: 5617758
Abstract: In a permanent magnet starter, a pinion clutch is smoothly engaged with a rotating shaft of an electric motor through a helical spline. A rotation restraint member is arranged at an outer periphery portion and this rotation restraint member is forcibly arranged by a magnetic field coil which is controlled from an outside portion. In a permanent magnet type motor having no magnetic field coil for exciting the motor, it is unnecessary to alter a motor unit. By the rotation force of an armature a pinion gear of the pinion clutch is moved, accordingly the permanent magnet starter for reducing the collision force during the meshing time of the pinion gear to a ring gear can be obtained. Further the permanent magnet starter having a superior gear meshing withstanding property and further without the lowering in the sealing property in the motor unit can be obtained.

  • Patent number: 5617776
Abstract: A deep fat fryer is disclosed that employs an interior array of heat exchanger tubes arranged in a "U" configuration along the sides and back of the vat. The heat exchanger tubes are located in the interior of the vat with the ends attached to the front vat wall. Combusting fuel and oxygen are directed through the heat exchanger tubes using either a premix burner located at one end of each tube or by using an atmospheric burner generally adjacent to one end of each tube and inducing a draft through each tube. The combustion gases produced by the burners travel through the heat exchanger tubes and exit into a combustion channel. The combustion channel directs the gases exiting the heat exchanger tube around and in contact with at least a portion of the exterior wall of the vat and then to an exhaust flue at the rear of the vat.

  • Patent number: 5617779
Abstract: An attachment for a kettle portable barbecue grill which apparatus serves to provide a fixed tray or shelf extending horizontally from the rear edge of the top of the kettle's bowl. The attachment does not modify the grill per se, and is attached to its exterior at three places: at two spread apart points along the front wheel axle and to the rear handle or rear "lip" of the bowl. The attachment includes a generally U-shaped frame that includes two arm sections that straddle the grill and extend at about 50 degrees to the horizontal from the front axle to which they are affixed. The arms extend upwardly and rearwardly to the rear of the top of the bowl. These arms are then bent to be horizontal and run parallel to one another for a short distance to serve to support the surface of the tray or shelf and are then turned toward one another and united to form a rear handle. The frame includes a cross member at the front of the shelf and means for attaching that member to the rear handle or "lip" of the bowl.

Abstract: The present invention is a sunlight reducing cover for intake and exhaust louvers on a food crop storage building. The invention also decreases the likelihood of ice formation or dirt fouling of the building louvers. The invention interfits within a frame, which is installed over the louvers, preferably inside the building. The invention is generally comprised of a free-flowing, air permeable, plurality of passageways. Each passageway having a first and a second end, with the passageways being of offset configuration wherein the first end is offset from the second end to an extent that a linear path does not exist between the two ends. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is generally comprised of a plurality of panels of generally wave form. The invention is manufactured by attaching the top surface of one panel to the bottom surface of another panel in such a fashion that the period of the wave form of each panel is 180.degree.

  • Patent number: 5617783
Abstract: A peeler uses parallel inclined valleys in a cylindrical interior surface to serve as channels. The parallel valleys are between parallel ridges or ribs. A rotary disk having a series of bumps and an abrasive surface is rotated so as to abrasively remove an outer portion of agricultural products. The debris corresponding to removed portions is urged downwardly and out a peripheral debris exit by the ridges as rotation takes place. A wear rim around the disk has an upper surface and the debris exit is between the wear rim and the interior surface. The interior surface is on a liner having a lower surface. The upper surface of the wear rim is no greater than 1/4 inch higher than a lower edge of the liner such that a restricted passage therebetween has a height no greater than 1/4 inch. An expansion zone is just below the restricted passage.

  • Patent number: 5617784
Abstract: The invention provides an apparatus and method for feeding, bundling and transporting a stream of sheets, such as printed sheets in signature form. A vertical stacking machine stacks a stream of signatures and then clamps, compresses and straps the signatures into a bundle for transportation and delivery. The machine has a pair of improved bar clamps for preventing sheet drift during compression and strapping. The clamps attach each bar to a driving mechanism in a cantilevered fashion. Each bar is only attached to the driving mechanism at the top and/or the center portion of the bar. The opposite, bottom end of each bar is free of attachment to the driving mechanism. As a result, a critical obstruction is removed.

  • Patent number: 5617788
Abstract: A continuously operative printing machine and a method of operating the same are disclosed. The printing machine has a plurality of switchable printing units to be used selectively by switching. For continuous printing the printing units are switched alternately by coupling and decoupling first coupling/decoupling means while a continuous printing web is held running. Plate change of stationary printing units is done with independent drive means to be ready for the next printing. Then the stationary printing units are restored to the printing state through synchronous control by rotational control means. Thus plate change printing or the like can be carried out continuously without stopping the printing machine. In addition, high quality printing can be obtained efficiently. Further, it is possible to obtain double side printing.
