  • Patent number: 6098345
Abstract: An elongate gutter cover adapted to be positioned over the open trough of a conventional rain gutter. The gutter cover is configured to deflect leaves and other debris away from the gutter. The rain water, however, follows the contour of the gutter cover into the gutter itself. The gutter cover is made from materials that are substantially entirely deformation reversible between two extreme configurations. Starting with the configuration desired in service, the gutter cover is flattened to permit coiling in a longitudinal dimension. Upon being uncoiled, the gutter cover resumes the operative configuration in which it is used. In some embodiments, the gutter cover may comprise several plastic materials that have been coformed to provide the desired characteristics. The invention provides a novel method of installing a gutter cover system with less labor and skill than has typically been required in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 6098346
Abstract: A plumbing assembly is provided which is formed from a plurality of rigid pipe sections, connected between a movable sink and a relatively fixed fluid outlet. These pipe sections are joined together by swivel fittings that permit the pipe sections to rotate with respect to each other. In this manner, different distances between the sink and the fluid outlet are accommodated by a folding and unfolding motion of the plumbing assembly in a minimum of space behind the wall of an expandable portion of the room. Fluid supply lines for providing hot and cold water to the sink faucet can be mounted within the same spacial area by means of similar swivel fittings that create an offset parallelogram structure. The lengths of at least the fluid draining pipe sections and the supporting structure behind the wall are selected such that a downward slope is maintained over the entire fluid flow path between the sink and the fluid outlet regardless of sink position during usage.

  • Patent number: 6098362
Abstract: Plastic tiles are combined with troughs to cover a wooden deck. The U-shaped troughs are laid across the deck in parallel and are slightly spaced apart to form gaps between them. Each tile comprises a rectangular upper block having downwardly depending legs. The block stands on two adjacent troughs and bridges the gap. Rainwater moves through the cracks between the tiles and is received in the troughs, which form sluice-ways for conveying it to the edge of the deck for release. The block has a forwardly projecting, narrow protrusion positioned to register with the gap. The protrusion forms a laterally extending channel, for conveying water across the gap to the troughs, and a hole through which a screw may be driven to affix the tile to the wood of the deck at the gap. The protrusion fits beneath the rear end of the next tile so that the screw is isolated from the water. The assembly of tiles and troughs prevents water reaching the wood of the deck.

  • Patent number: 6098371
Abstract: The machine comprises a main carousel including a horizontal axis having seats which are angularly equidistant and open outwardly and including at the front a gripper and at the rear a folding device. Each seat passes first adjustable means with the gripper open to supply the gripper with a packaging sheet arranged on the seat, and cooperating with a first auxiliary carousel which inserts a roll into each seat, oriented with its axis parallel to that of the main carousel, while the roll is partially wrapped with the packaging sheet retained by the closed gripper. In succession, the rear folding device intervenes and the gripper opens and folding means intervene in order to fold the front edge of the sheet onto the rear edge, while the folding device returns to the rest position and the edges are fixed together by a heat-sealing carousel.

  • Patent number: 6098372
Abstract: Apparatus, in particular packaging machine, with movable members which are exposed to wearing stresses on one side.Primarily packaging machines for the manufacture of cigarette packs (10) of the soft-cup type employ folding mandrels (15), on which blanks (14) are temporarily fixed by means of pressure members, in particular by means of pressure rods (19). These are exposed to wearing stresses on one side, specifically in the region in which they bear on the folding mandrel (15). In order to avoid operating faults caused thereby, the pressure member, specifically the pivoting lever (20), is adjusted from time to time, specifically by partial rotation, so that, after a particular operating period, another circumferential region of the pivoting lever (20) is exposed to wearing stress.

Abstract: An improved case packer machine, of the type where containers are dropped through grid fingers to an empty case positioned on a lift table. The case packer machine of the present invention includes a flap opener which includes a pair of shoes mounted to an air cylinder. The shoes are extended by the air cylinder to contact and open the leading flap. The lifting table of the present invention is motor driven and controlled to limit the shock loading experienced by the containers as they are positioned within the cases. The lifting table includes a pair spur gears driven by the motor in meshing arrangement with a pair rack gears each mounted to a table and a novel gear guide to maintain proper engagement between the racks and gears and further to provide for backlash adjustment between the gears.

  • Patent number: 6098380
Abstract: The formation of a tubular web in a form-fill process is achieved by drawing the web along a tapering guide (6) and then along a forming tube (20) the axis of which is at a small angle to the guide plate and intersects the guide. The web is drawn along the guide and tube by opposed drive rollers (24) at a station along the length of the forming tube, the rollers gripping the edges of the web together. The side margins of the web are folded over from a central portion when the web travels along the guide plate but the side edges are brought together only after they reach the forming tube. The drive rollers (24) or sealing rollers (26) further along the forming tube seal the edges together to form a closed tube.
