  • Patent number: 6145187
Abstract: A multipole brushless DC motor stator is formed with a pair of complementary opposable claw pole stator structures in which each of the stator structures comprises a stator base formed of a plurality of stacked sheet metal laminations. A plurality of stator pole members extend from the stator base and are formed by compression molding of a ferromagnetic material. In one form, the ferromagnetic material is molded in situ on the stator base by positioning the stator base in a compression mold having the slots in which a powdered or flaked ferromagnetic material can be positioned and compressed by a die. In another form, the ferromagnetic pole members may be independently compression molded of powdered or flaked ferromagnetic material and then adhesively bonded to the stacked laminations forming the stator base. In either method, the stacked laminations are formed with a plurality of receptacles for receiving one end of each of the stator poles and holding the stator poles to the stator base.

  • Patent number: 6145188
Abstract: An actuator structure includes a flexure suspension with a flag appendage having a cantilevered portion extending parallel to the arm-suspension to form a gap therebetween. The flex cable that connects to the device electronics has an elongated portion secured to the side of the arm-suspension assembly presenting termination pads, which extend to the cable edge, along the elongated portion side and in alignment with the gap between arm-suspension and flag. The leads extending from the transducer are fanned out and extend across the gap. The leads are bonded to the arm-suspension and to the lead cantilevered portion immediately adjoining the gap. To terminate the leads, the flag is folded down 90 degrees, bringing the leads into contact with the te nation pads where they are ultrasonically bonded. The flag is then bent toward its original position causing the fine lead wires to separate between the flag cantilever portion bond and the ultrasonically bonded termination.

  • Patent number: 6145193
Abstract: A squib connector socket assembly for automotive air bags includes a shorting clip assembly. The squib connector socket assembly holds a pair of igniter pins of a squib assembly which are connectable to a pair of terminals in a squib connector which plugs into the socket assembly. To prevent accidental firing when the squib connector is removed, the igniter pins are shorted by a shorting clip having a pair of resilient, bowed beams which are independently biassed into contact with the pins. The shorting clip is fixedly retained within a plastic socket insert. The socket insert and squib assembly are assembled within a metal socket which is roll crimped about the insert and squib assembly to form an inseparable, integral squib connector socket assembly.

  • Patent number: 6145199
Abstract: A bearing system for mounting a rotating shaft includes a bearing assembly and a bearing mounting structure. The bearing assembly has an inner race which contacts the rotating shaft, an outer race, and bearing elements positioned therebetween. The outer race has an exterior surface with an outer dimension. The bearing mounting structure has a region for affixing it to an external structure in which the bearing system is to function. An internal surface of the bearing mounting structure defines a bearing cavity in which the bearing assembly is to be disposed. The internal surface engages the exterior surface of the outer race. The retention force exerted by the internal surface on the outer surface is determined by the design of the inner surface of the bearing mounting structure that defines the bearing cavity. The internal surface has cut-outs, or scallops, extending axially (with respect to the shaft) along the internal surface.

  • Patent number: 6145201
Abstract: Manual shaving devices for shaving underarm areas and other small contoured skin surfaces. Each device has a head structure contains one or more razor blade strips between two non-shaving side glide surfaces. In preferred embodiments, the head structure has exposed blade strips about 12 mm to 25 mm (0.5" to 1.0") long, and glide areas each preferably 6 mm to 12 mm long. The blade strips may be straight or curved. The glide areas are preferably rounded with rounded edges, and may smooth or textured. Each device helps facilitate safe shaving of skin surfaces that are soft and pliable by allowing the user to apply, through the glide areas, a non-cutting force to the general area of the skin surface being shaved. This helps alter the skin contour to more closely match that of the sharpened razor blade edges of the device, which are relatively short in length and only bear lightly against the skin to be shaved.

  • Patent number: 6145224
Abstract: An earthworking implement adapted to normally engage the ground in a primary direction of travel has a replaceable ground engaging tool retained onto a tool mounting portion of the implement by an elongated retainer. The tool mounting portion has an exterior surface with a first retainer pocket providing a first abutment surface facing in a direction substantially away from the primary direction of travel. The ground engaging tool, in turn, has an interior surface with a second retainer pocket positionable in alignment with the first retainer pocket and provides a second abutment surface disposed in a generally spaced, diametrically opposing relationship to the first abutment surface. An elongated retainer is positionable within the retainer pockets and has a pair of opposite solid end portions oriented to abut the first and second abutment surfaces such that the end portions restrict the tool from coming off the mounting portion in the direction of the primary direction of travel.

  • Patent number: 6145225
Abstract: An animal ear tag includes a component locking member of novel design. The component locking member has an interior passageway which substantially conforms in shape to the post or pin of an ear tag installation tool to stabilize the connection therebetween which prevents slippage or other undesirable movement of the component locking member when installed on the ear of an animal. The component locking member is characterized by a transverse portion having a pair of opposed flanges, and a substantially planar rear edge. The planar edge is adapted for contact with an inner surface of a jaw of an installation tool which further provides stabilization between the component locking member and the ear tag installation tool. As an ear tag assembly, the invention utilizes the component locking member and an ear tag panel having a grommet which engages the component locking member.

Abstract: An ear tag assembly for attachment to an ear of an animal and for housing a transponder. The assembly comprises a body (1) and a pin (2). The body (1) comprises a chamber (11) in which the transponder is housed. A plug (3) closes the chamber (11). The body (1) is formed from hard plastics material and is generally cylindrical with a strengthening ridge (6) parallel to the long axis. The pin (2) comprises a narrow curved backing component (15) and a shaft (16) with a hardened end for penetrating the ear of the animal. The small size of the body (1), its location in the ear and the shape and material of the body (1) result in a durable ear tag assembly.

  • Patent number: 6145229
Abstract: A novelty card lighting device is disclosed. The lighting device is relatively small so as to be hand held and portable. The light is directed at a predefined angle such that the three dimensional illusion of a hologram card is presented to the viewer when the device is hand held at normal arm's length, set upon a surface in front of the viewer, or hung on the wall. The light is swingably mounted in the device and such a swinging is actuated from an exterior portion of the housing. The actuator may be mechanical or include an electromechanical servo. A mount for the novelty card pivots out from the rear of the device for placement of the card in an inset formed in the mount. When the mount swings closed, the novelty card is sandwiched between the mount and a viewing glass covering at least a portion of an opening formed by the housing or frame.

  • Patent number: 6145235
Abstract: An improved ramrod having utility in preparing a firearm for firing, said firearm being of the type that uses black powder as a propellant and is sometimes called a muzzleloader. The ramrod has an elongated body of substantial rigidity so that it may function to tamp a bullet prior to igniting a charge of black powder. A folding arm is permanently attached to and carried by the "outer" end of the elongated body. The folding arm has a stowed position in which the arm is generally aligned with the body's longitudinal axis. The arm also has a working position in which it makes a substantial angle (e.g., 90 degrees) with respect to the body's longitudinal axis. The attachment of the folding arm to the elongated body is by a pivot pin having an axis of rotation that is perpendicular to the body's longitudinal axis. A force may be transferred to the body by manually applying said force to the arm while the arm is in its working position.
