Abstract: The invention relates to a hydraulic piston-cylinder-unit (10) for a slewing drive with at least one piston, which can be slid in a cylinder and exhibits fastening means, by means of which the piston can be connected in such a manner to a coupling rod that the working tool can be swung by means of a movement of the piston. In accordance with the invention the cylinder exhibits fastening means, by means of which the cylinder can be connected to the working tool or to a carrier of the slewing drive.

A fuel feed pump 1A for delivering fuel fed from a low-pressure pump to an injector at a high pressure, comprises a pump chamber 13 communicated with a fuel introduction passage 14 and a delivery passage 15, a plunger 3A being reciprocatingly driven upon abutting a cam 5 that is driven by the output of an engine, and a sleeve 7 for guiding the lateral surface of said plunger in the axial direction, wherein said plunger is formed of ceramic as a single structure, has a sliding portion 31 at one end surface thereof to abut said cam, and forms said pump chamber at the other end thereof.

Abstract: Disclosed is a clamping device for a piston to be mounted, said clamping device being actuated mainly in the direction of pressure/counter-pressure, whereby the whole initial pressure is increased, resulting in greater anti-loosening safety. To that end two screws are placed very close to each other on each side of the piston, one pair being on the pressure side of the piston and the other pair on the counter-pressure side. Both screw pairs have on each side a common pressure member.

Abstract: A stopper including a collection receptacle, characterized in that the stopper is provided with a valve that permits flow of sediments into said collection receptacle, wherein the valve may be closed to substantially trap the sediments in the collection receptacle and obstruct flow therefrom.

Abstract: A manually operated coffee bean press for ensuring the proper extraction of coffee. The manually operated coffee bean press includes a frame. The frame includes a base and a leg. The leg includes a first end, a second end, and a front side and a back side with a peripheral wall extending therebetween. The frame also includes a shelf comprising a plate integrally coupled to the leg. The coffee bean pressing apparatus also includes a cylinder integrally coupled to the leg. The coffee bean pressing apparatus further comprises a piston member including a shaft being positioned in the cylinder. The shaft includes a hole with a lever removably coupled to it. The lever is hingedly coupled to the leg by a hinging member.

Abstract: A beverage brewing substance holder for holding a beverage brewing substance, such as coffee, provided in a pouch or in a loose filter for use in brewing beverage can be attached to a beverage brewer. The holder includes an open-ended, cup-shaped body having a drain hole provided therethrough. A supporting structure is mounted within the body and the pouch or loose filter sits thereupon such that a gap is formed between the pouch or the loose filter and the drain hole. This prevents the formation of a vacuum between the pouch or loose filter and the body. A handle can be attached to one of two positions on the body. First and second pairs of opposed, elongated, horizontal flanges are formed on the body and slide along respective rails on the brewer to accommodate two different brewers.

Abstract: This invention provides a system and a method of mixing and dispensing a beverage from a beverage concentrate. A mixing device receives a beverage concentrate and water, and employs a static mixing device to mix the concentrate and water to produce a beverage in a closed system. Flow regulators precisely control the flows of the beverage concentrate and water to achieve the desired mixing ratio. The carbonation system may include a pump for pumping the beverage from the mixing device to a carbonator, a refrigeration unit, a beverage dispenser, or other. A transformer is coupled with the pump and one or more solenoid valves in the mixing device. The transformer receives power from the pump motor to activate the solenoid valves to allow flow of the beverage out of the mixing device only when the pump is powered. When the pump is shut off, the power to the transformer is terminated and the solenoid valves are switched off to stop the flow of the beverage out of the mixing device.

Abstract: This invention describes a heat dissipation system that uses a pair of panels rotatably mounted in a grill, which allows a cook to equalize the heat radiated within a gas or electric grill to provide more even heat distribution and prevents wind from extinguishing the burner flame, even in the presence of a crosswind. A grease drainage system is also described for a gas or electric grill.

Abstract: Control of the roasting fluidized bed of coffee. It is governed by determining when the pyrolysis of the roasted batch is at its peak. The roasting is then stopped after a predetermined period of time. The following of the commencement of pyrolysis accurately and uniformly determines the starting period for the timing of the stoppage of the process to obtain uniform roasting result. The process is not vulnerable to variations in roasting such as moisture, temperature of the roasting air etc. Air circulation control conduit is provided with a vent port for gases and an inlet port for fresh air, the two ports can be simultaneously opened or closed while the control conduit is simultaneously closed or opened, respectively. Additional air circulation and discharge systems are disclosed and claimed.

Abstract: An egg cleaning kit is provided for removing contents of a raw egg from the interior of a shell so that the shell's exterior surface may be decorated. The kit includes a hole-former for producing an opening through the shell, and an injector including a nozzle that is insertable through the opening. The injector operates to introduce air into the interior at a pressure greater than ambient pressure whereby the interior becomes pressurized thereby to eject the contents of the raw egg from the shell. The egg cleaning kit may also include either a surface decoration material adapted to be applied to the exterior surface of the shell during the decorative process, a holder for engaging the shell after removal of the contents and for supporting the shell during the decorative process, or a container which includes a lid for allowing submersion of the shell in the decorative fluid. A method of treating a raw egg for decorative purposes is also provided.

Abstract: A process and device for increasing the gloss and/or smoothness of a web of material are described, whereby a web of material (5) is passed through a roller gap where it is exposed to pressure. A steam dispensing device (7) is provided upstream of the roller gap relative to the direction of travel (9) of the web of material (5). The increase in gloss and/or smoothness is to be accomplished without consuming much energy. To do so, the steam is condensed on the web of material and the web of material (5) is guided through the roller gap before the increase in moisture content of the surface due to the steam treatment has dropped below a predetermined value.

Abstract: A system for loading and clamping one or more plates onto the cylindrical surface of a rotatable drum, such as used in a platesetter for printing, and for unloading the plates from the drum. The system is characterized by clamps that are movable over the surface, preferably along circumferential tracks, enabling the attachment of multiple plates, end-to-end and/or side-by-side, each plate having any of a wide range of sizes. The clamps are preferably of the dynamic type, whereby the clamping force increases with rotational speed. Also disclosed is a method for mounting and unmounting plates, using the movable clamps, such that allows flexible and convenient arrangement of loading- and unloading stations.

Abstract: In a radio remote blasting system, a radio receiver triggers a blocking oscillator which generates a high voltage output. A rectifier rectifies the high voltage output and charges a capacitor, which is coupled to a plasma arc generator to apply the capacitor voltage to the plasma arc generator and generate a high voltage arc in the arc generator. The end of a shock tube is received in a port in the arc generator and the arc produced in the arc generator will ignite explosive material in the shock tube. The resulting explosion will travel from the point of ignition to an explosive device which will then be detonated.

Abstract: A sporting gun cartridge and wad therefor wherein such wad, generally taking the form of a shotshell wad for shotguns, for example, includes a first, forwardly oriented cylindrical portion and also a second, rearwardly oriented cylindrical portion, joining the first portion at a common partition juncture, wherein the side wall of the first portion is scored to provided a series of expandable and separable wall segments, spaced from the forward end of such first portion, whereby to afford relief from impaction of shot disposed within said first portion under firing conditions.

Abstract: The position of a track is corrected on the basis of the independent and separate measurement of the level errors of each track rail, and by concentrating the correction work on the most egregious position errors. For this purpose, a sub-section of the track is delimited by a starting point and an end point, and each rail in this sub-section is lifted to a desired level which has been electronically determined and is matched to a contiguous track section which has not been corrected.

Abstract: A stand for supporting and securing an item such as a portable computer comprises a hinged leaf assembly with adjustably positionable clamping members. The clamping members are slidingly secured along outer edges of hingedly connected leaves of the leaf assembly to permit sliding advancement of the clamping members relative to and along the edges of the leaves to which they are attached. An articulated arm is secured at an upper end to the underside of the leaf assembly and at a lower end to the surface relative to which the item is to be supported such as the floor of a vehicle.

Each connector has first and second opposing ends, a first track provided adjacent the first end of the connector and a second track provided adjacent the second end of the connector. Each of the first and second tracks has a leg portion extending from one of the first or second end of the connector, and a foot extending from the leg portion.

Abstract: A system for hanging implements on a wall which employs a hanging component formed of thin steel wire having two wire legs integrally joined to and spaced apart at a limiter portion. In a shelf supporting embodiment, bores or paired channels are provided within a shelf standard at a downwardly depending acute angle. The standard then is used with an elemental drill to form corresponding paired channels through a drywall surface. The wire bifurcate hanging components then are inserted through these channels at the noted acute angle to support a standard against a wall. The acute angle evokes an inwardly directed vector component providing a very stable and relatively high load bearing capacity. Removal of the shelf system from the wall is simply accomplished by lifting upwardly to reveal only small paired channel openings which are easily covered or resurfaced. A continuous strap based self supporting arrangement simplifies the mounting to and supporting of shelves from spaced apart standards.

Abstract: A burner isolation valve or gate for use in the coal-delivery pipes of coal-fired power plants. Safety regulations often require that two valves be placed in the coal delivery line between a combustion chamber and an exhauster or pulverizer type deliver source to isolate the section of pipe in between for maintenance and other access. The invention includes a novel valve plate and actuation assembly, a novel housing adapted to sealingly enclose the valve plate, and a novel sealing mechanism for the valve plate and housing adapted to keep coal fines and dust out of the outboard portion of the housing in which the valve plate rests in the valve-open position.

Abstract: A nozzle for feeding combustion maintaining medium into a furnace at high temperature conditions includes a nozzle tip, at least partly protruding into the furnace, and a feeding mechanism for feeding the combustion medium from a source of the medium to the nozzle tip. The nozzle tip includes a mainly open ended outer shell, an air cooling zone, a shroud, and an air channel. The outer shell includes a first end wall portion in flow connection with the feeding mechanism and a second end wall portion protruding into the furnace. The cooling zone is formed on the interior side of at least a portion of the second end wall portion of the outer shell, by providing an air flow along the interior side. The shroud includes a shroud wall portion disposed to cover at least a portion of the first end wall portion of the outer shell.

Abstract: A method of combustion in a pressurized, fluidized bed and in the freeboard thereof. The combustion method is further characterized by the recirculation of solid sulfur absorbing materials. A gas channel, designed so as to prevent fluidizing gas from entering the channel from below, is provided such that it opens to the freeboard and to a separating member which separates particulate matter from the combustion gasses.

Abstract: A hand-held mending gun for tufting stitches into a backing material has a hollow needle reciprocally driven axially to form stitches in a backing material. A drive mechanism couples a rotary motor to a needle carrier for reciprocation along the axis of the needle. A yarn feed roll connected to a yarn drive disk may be selectively changed in speed by changing the position of the yarn feed disk relative to a radius of a drive disk through a pneumatic cylinder having a piston relocatable between an extended and a retracted position. With the speed of rotation of the drive disk constant, the speed of the yarn feed roll may be changed between a high and a low pile height setting, or position, by changing the distance of a contact point of the yarn feed disk on the drive disk from the center of the disk drive. A pneumatic selector switch allows a single operator to control the selection of the high or low pile height position.

Abstract: A sewing machine with a dust removing device prevents trouble such as faulty sewing caused when dust including waste thread and waste cloth is collected under a throat plate, in performing, for example, interlock stitch sewing by an overlock sewing machine. Specifically, an upward air introducing path is provided, through which the cooling airflow generated by a cooling fan actuated during sewing operation is fed to an air introducing path for oil cooling underneath a lubricating oil storage part, and, through which the cooling airflow passing through the air introducing path for oil cooling is blown up from the underside of a frame to a needle location of the throat plate, in order to blow up the dust. An opening of one end of a suction pipe for collecting dust attached to the frame is disposed sidewise above the throat plate.

The ridges are angled upward toward the release end of the jamming groove. The skene chock comprises a pair of spaced apart rigid arm members extending upward from the base, skene portions of each of the rigid arm member curving inward toward one another to thereby form an anchor line receiving aperture.

Abstract: The device of the present invention, an enclosure for partially submerged boat keels, rudders and lower units, is a box-like structure constructed to enclose those described parts extending downwards from the hull of a boat when the boat is lifted from the water on a hoist in such a manner as to prevent direct contact with the water. The device is positioned about the submerged portion of the keel, rudder or lower unit and then emptied of water, resulting in flotation of the upper portions of the enclosure to a level above the surrounding waterline. By thus preventing continuous direct contact with water during periods of storage, the adverse effects of bottom growth and gelcoat blistering are reduced or eliminated, thus enhancing performance underway and reducing maintenance.

Abstract: A submersible apparatus for transporting compressed gas comprising a plurality of spools, each having a central bore. A long continuous length of relatively small diameter line pipe for holding compressed natural gas is wound about each spool, so that an inner end of the pipe terminates in the bore, while an outer end of the pipe terminates at outer surface of the spool. A tank has a thin housing to store the spools vertically therein, with axis of the bores horizontally to create a continuous pathway therethrough. An inner header extends through the length of the continuous pathway of the bores and has the inner ends of the pipes connected thereto. An outer header extends the length of the tank and has the outer ends of the pipes connected thereto. A pair of access ports are provided with each located at one end of the tank to provide loading/unloading nozzles and access ways for maintenance personnel.

Abstract: An uncrossed-braced, column stabilized semi-submersible and improved methods of operation of the same are disclosed. The semi-submersible vessel provides necessary strength to resist hydrodynamic forces via a unitized support system. Improved elliptically shaped columns, haunch supports and reinforcing members provide stability and resist transverse forces. A skirt design minimizes the reduced stability at the transition point. Improved deck designs reduce environmental impacts and provide additional support against transverse forces.

Abstract: A channeled air planing apparatus improves low speed performance of boats without adversely affecting high speed performance. The apparatus includes structural elements for channeling air to a transverse step adjacent a running surface. Air channeled to the transverse step eliminates low pressure at the step caused by flow of water past the step, which in turn enhances low speed performance by lowering the bow of the boat and reducing drag on wetted propulsion equipment and other aft boat structure. In a preferred embodiment, the channeled air planing foil includes a lower hydrofoil member attached to a setback area of the boat by a pair of substantially parallel sidewalls aft and above the boat's running surface. When the boat is at rest, a channel defined by the lower hydrofoil element and sidewalls contains water. As the boat moves forwardly through the water during takeoff, water is evacuated from the channel and replaced with air which ventilates the transverse step.

Abstract: A TMS, cage type or top hat type incorporates a deployment frame. The TMS may be operated by a winch from a surface vessel. The TMS delivers a main ROV and a smaller mini ROV. The main ROV is fully functional to accomplish the necessary task subsea. However, in the event there is an operational failure of the main ROV, the mini ROV can be deployed. The mini ROV may have fewer functionalities than the main ROV, but can at least offer video and lighting to allow monitoring of a particular location subsea. All the necessary positioning capabilities are available on the mini ROV.

Abstract: A cover system for a pontoon boat having a rail is disclosed. The cover system includes a framework for receiving a flexible material cover thereon. The framework has hollow end fittings engageable to brackets. Each bracket has a U-shaped configuration with inwardly projected protuberances along lateral ends to grasp the underside of the rail. The bracket has a center section between two lateral sections and the center section has a vertically extending portion thereon configured for being received into an end fitting.

Abstract: A bicycle warning device is capable of providing a turning or braking signal and is mounted on the bicycle such that the main body of the warning device faces the front and the rear of the bicycle. The main body is provided with at least two groups of reflector-type display pieces which are of a strip like construction and arranged alternately in rows. The display pieces are provided with symbols capable of forming in combination to indicate the turning direction or the braking action of the bicycle in motion. The display pieces are colored to enhance the warning effect of the device and are capable of being driven by the pull rods to displace up and down. The effects of the left-turn signalling, the right-turn signalling and the braking signalling are attained by the alternate and reciprocating motions of the display pieces.

Abstract: A reflective collar attachment which is designed to be attached around the periphery of an existing fire hydrant includes mating semi-circular halves, each of which has formed therewith a pair of integral semi-circular extensions with a number of circular stair-stepped indentations of incrementally decreasing radii. Each half of the collar can be adjusted in inner radius by severing the semi-circular extensions at any of the indentations so that the collar can be adjusted to fit any fire hydrant design. Other embodiments include a collar attachment of three piece construction and a resilient strip with projecting top and bottom teeth which can fit any fire hydrant design or shape. A removable reflective tape web is positioned in a display area positioned around the periphery of any of the collar attachments.

Abstract: A position indicator device for marking the location of an aircraft that has crashed has a buoyant housing containing a radio beacon, a dye dispenser, and a visual beacon. Upon the crash of the aircraft, the buoyant housing is deployed by an air bag ejection system. Upon deployment, a control wire pulls a control pin from a controller, thereby activating the radio beacon, dye dispenser, and visual beacon. The radio beacon immediately alerts emergency personnel that a crash has occurred and can guide the emergency personnel to the scene. The dye dispenser slowly releases a liquid dye that stains the water an easily recognizable color. The visual beacon not only allows crash survivors to find the position indicator device and gather together for survival and rescue, it also allows emergency personnel to find the position indicator device in bad weather or at night.

Abstract: Apparatus for selectively providing textured handling hazard resistant clear marking particles coatings to photographic elements on an elongated web transported along a travel path from a supply roller to a take-up roller. The apparatus includes a device, located in operative association with the web travel path for applying a clear marking particle coating to the web. A heated fuser roller and a mechanism, such as a pressure roller providing a nip relation with the fuser roller for travel of the web through the nip, are located relative to the web travel path to fuse the clear marking particle coating to the web. At least one heated, textured roller, is located downstream of the fuser roller relative to the web travel path facing the photographic elements on the web.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for performing Plasma Chemical Vapor Deposition (PCVD), whereby one or more layers of silica can be deposited on an elongated vitreous substrate, the apparatus comprising an elongated microwave guide which emerges into a resonant cavity which is substantially cylindrically symmetric about a cylindrical axis, along which axis the substrate can be positioned, in which apparatus: the cavity is substantially annular in form, with an inner cylindrical wall and an outer cylindrical wall; the inner cylindrical wall comprises a slit which extends in a full circle around the cylindrical axis; the guide has a longitudinal axis which is substantially perpendicular to the cylindrical axis and which does not intercept the slit. The invention also relates to a method of manufacturing an optical fiber, a preform rod and a jacket tube using said apparatus as well as to the thus obtained optical fiber.

Abstract: Methods are provided for preparing absorbent material, comprising providing non-broken down and uncut recycled fiber sludge having a moisture content of greater than about 40%; pelletizing said recycled fiber sludge to form wet pellets; and drying said wet pellets. The absorbent material is particularly useful as an industrial-grade waste liquid absorbent and/or an animal litter.

A thermostat is contained in a containing portion formed in the pump cover in such a manner as to be held between the pump body and the pump cover.

Abstract: A safety fuel tank and filler cap apparatus is disclosed for use with a powered implement such as a lawn mower, tiller, weed trimmer or the like. The apparatus includes a locking mechanism that can be mounted on the engine body or fuel tank that disallows removal of the filler cap until the engine has cooled to a predetermined temperature that will not cause the fuel to ignite.

Abstract: A marine propulsion system is provided with a liquid detector located within a cooling passage of the cooling system of an engine. Conductivity sensors, or other types of liquid sensors, provide signals representative of the absence or presence of water at particular locations within the cooling system. The signals are used to energize and de-energize various annunciators on a display panel to inform the operator of a marine vessel of the status of a draining procedure. When all of the annunciators properly indicate the absence of water within strategic locations of the cooling system, the marine vessel operator can be assured that the draining procedure has been effectively completed.

Abstract: A direct injection spark-ignited internal combustion engine according to the present invention has a fuel injection valve that injects fuel directly into a fuel combustion chamber and is provided to a cylinder head, a fuel injection valve gasket that is inserted between the cylinder head and the fuel injection valve, and a water hole that is formed in a cylinder head gasket near the fuel injection valve gasket. The fuel injection valve is cooled through a seal portion of the fuel injection valve gasket, by cooling water in contact with the bottom surface of the cylinder head through the water hole.
