Patent number: 6260521Abstract: Method for controlling the supply of electrical energy to an electromagnetic device and use of a sliding mode controller. Control devices are known in which, in order to obtain a desired movement of an electromagnetically activated gas exchange valve, the supply of electrical energy is controlled as a function of a measured position of the gas exchange valve. The novel method is intended to optimize the control with respect to the movement forms to be obtained, the formation of noise and/or the required use of electrical energy. In a control device according to the invention, a differential signal is generated using the movement signal or a signal generated from the movement signal, and using a desired signal. The supply of electrical energy to the activating device of the gas exchange valve is controlled by means of a sliding mode controller using the differential signal.Type: GrantFiled: January 25, 2000Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: DaimlerChrysler AGInventor: Frank Kirschbaum

Patent number: 6260525Abstract: A method for improving efficiency and reducing emissions of an internal combustion engine. Variable displacement engine capabilities are achieved by disabling engine valves during load changes and constant load operations. Active cylinders may be operated at minimum BSFC by intermittently disabling other cylinders to provide the desired net torque. Disabling is begun by early closing of the intake valve to provide a vacuum at BDC which will result in no net gas flow across the piston rings, and minimum loss of compression energy in the disabled cylinder; this saving in engine friction losses is significant with multiple disablements.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 2000Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Inventor: David F. Moyer

Patent number: 6260537Abstract: An intake manifold assembly includes an improved air intake manifold receiving novel side feed fuel injectors. A fuel rail is integrated as a common part defining a common fuel passage integral with the air intake manifold. The common fuel passage supplies the side feed fuel injectors through openings that are spaced away from the injector nozzles toward an opposite connector end of each injector. The injector design concentrates an actuating coil, armature and nozzle valve in a lower or nozzle end of the injector. The fuel is fed from the side feed opening through an axially centered fuel passage that extends through the coil and the associated armature to the injection valve in a manner identical to corresponding top feed injectors. Thus, the performance advantages of top feed injection systems are provided while gaining the reduction in cost attributable to elimination of the separate fuel rail and subassembly. Various arrangements are disclosed for retaining the injectors in the manifold assembly.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Delphi Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Curtis David Lamb, Frederick Smith

Patent number: 6260560Abstract: For the purpose of cleaning and/or disinfecting endoscopes having a plurality of channels, each channel is connected to a feedline, which is provided with a shut-off valve, for a cleaning and/or disinfecting agent, and each channel is flushed with a cleaning and/or disinfecting agent. If necessary, before flushing the channels, separating means are arranged in the endoscope in order to separate channels from one another, in such a manner that during flushing only single channels are present in the endoscope. Each single channel is connected to a feedline for a cleaning and/or disinfecting agent and is flushed separately. The single channels which merge in the endoscope into a common channel part are flushed one after the other. Advantageously, if single channels of mutually different passage width are flushed simultaneously, an additional flow restriction is arranged in at least the feedline connected to the channel with the greater passage width.Type: GrantFiled: May 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Inventor: Johannes Antonius Walta

Patent number: 6260561Abstract: A method for cleaning the interior surfaces of a receptacle holding a body of water comprises providing the receptacle, providing an aqueous solution having from about 1 to about 100 weight percent of an aliphatic amine or salt thereof, adding the aqueous solution to the water within the receptacle. The aliphatic amine is selected from among the following: CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2NH2, R—O—(CH2)3NH2 and R—O—(CH2)3NH(CH2)3NH2 wherein R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon having from 8 to 10 carbon atoms, R optionally having additional ether linkages such as CnH(n+1)—(O—CH2CH2)n′, and wherein n is an integer from 8 to 10 and n′ is an integer from 1 to 5. When the aqueous solution is added to the water, flocculus or precipitants are substantially not formed in the water proximate to the point of addition. Also disclosed is a swimming pool having a liner and a body of water within the liner.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 1998Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: The Dow Chemical CompanyInventors: Charles D. Patent number: 6260563Abstract: In high speed strip pickling and other treatment such as rinsing and cleaning, the acid or other liquid treating medium tends to be carried along with the strip, which reduces the efficiency of contact of the acid with the strip. The invention addresses this problem by providing a segmented bath, each segment having a deflector over the strip to cause a flow reversal of the acid, which is then guided by an inclined separator panel to the upstream end of the segment and deposited again on the strip. The exit of the segment also includes a constriction to cause the acid to accelerate, creating turbulence, and, on the exit side of the constriction, causing a decrease in pressure, whereby acid is drawn down from above the separator panel, which in turn assists the circulation of acid through the flow reversal.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Danieli Technology, Inc.Inventors: Richard Kenneth Lordo, Thomas Sven Persson

Patent number: 6260564Abstract: The purpose of the invention is a device for closing a tank (1) containing a corrosive product closed by at least two successive lids (5) whose two longitudinal sides (6) engage, upon closing, into two corresponding gutters (7) of the tank (1) which are filled with water in order to constitute a tight seal, so-called ‘water seal’. According to the invention, at least one additional medial, also U-section, transversal gutter (12) is interposed between both longitudinal gutters (7) of the tank (1) at a sealing plane (P) between two successive lids (5) whose opposite transversal sides (8) engage into the said transversal gutter (12) in order to form a water seal on at least three sides of each lid.Type: GrantFiled: July 2, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Vai ClecimInventors: Daniel Sylvain, Henri Bonhomme

Patent number: 6260568Abstract: An apparatus and a method for supplying uninterrupted gas by using an automatic switching gas supply system are provided. In the apparatus, a main gas supply source and at least one back-up gas supply source are provided which are connected by a plurality of conduits to a process tool. The conduits further include pressure regulators such that a gas pressure from the main gas supply source is always regulated at about 0.5 Kg/cm2˜1 Kg/cm2 higher than a gas pressure from the back-up gas supply source. The apparatus operates by pneumatic means so that no electric power is required. The apparatus further operates automatically by switching from the main gas supply source to the back-up gas supply source when the pressure drop in the main gas supply source exceeds the pressure differential that is preset in the system, e.g., between about 0.5 Kg/cm2 and about 1 Kg/cm2. Any other suitable range of pressure differential may also be used depending on the type of gases transported and the conduits used.Type: GrantFiled: October 6, 1999Date of Patent: July 17, 2001Assignee: Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company, LtdInventors: Ming-Tzung Hsu, Biing-Huang Yang, Long-Chun Tsai
