  • Publication number: 20010023755
Abstract: An injection molding system for a metal alloy includes a feeder in which the metal alloy is melted and a barrel in which the liquid metal alloy is converted into a thixotropic state. An accumulation chamber draws in the metal alloy in the thixotropic state through a valve disposed in an opening between the barrel and the accumulation chamber. The valve selectively opens and closes the opening in response to a pressure differential between the accumulation chamber and the barrel. After the metal alloy in the thixotropic state is drawn in, it is injected through an exit port provided on the accumulation chamber. The exit port has a variable heating device disposed around it. This heating device cycles the temperature near the exit port between an upper limit and a lower limit. The temperature is cycled to an upper limit when the metal alloy in the thixotropic state is injected and to a lower limit when the metal alloy in the thixotropic state is drawn into the accumulation chamber from the barrel.

Abstract: A borehole tool including a tool body having and an anchoring mechanism, the anchoring mechanism having a drive mechanism including a motor, drive shaft, and clutch; an anchor arm moveable between first and second positions relative to the tool body; a push rod connecting the anchor arm to the drive mechanism; and a spring acting to bias the arm into a first position relative to the tool body. The push rod extends through the clutch mechanism and is engaged by the spring to bias the arm into the first position, and is also driven by the drive mechanism through the clutch to move the arm between the first and second position. The push rod may be connected to the anchor arm by a link. Measurement devices may be used to determine the position of the anchor arm or the tool body.

Abstract: A simple arrangement (60) for lubricating a countershaft brake (58). A countershaft brake (58) is attached to an end of a countershaft (12) of a transmission (2), and a counter gear (16) is mounted on the countershaft (12) near the countershaft brake (58). An oil pool (62) is formed in a transmission housing (61) to immerse at least part of the gear (16) when the counter gear (16) is not rotating. Abstract: A brake for a plunger of a hydraulic elevator is provided which in a preferred embodiment includes a pressure plate, a first brake ring, a wedge plate, a biasing spring and a fluid release actuator. The pressure plate is movable along an axis generally parallel with the axis of the plunger. The first brake ring encircles the plunger and has an inner surface for engagement with the plunger. The first brake ring also has a second surface for force engagement with the pressure plate. The first brake ring additionally has an outer wedge surface. The first wedge plate has a first wedge surface for engagement with the wedge surface of the first brake ring. The spring biases the pressure plate and wedge plate toward one another. The fluid release actuator urges the pressure plate away from the wedge plate. Upon release of the actuator relative movement of the pressure plate towards the first wedge plate causes the brake ring to circumferentially grip the plunger and prevent movement axial of the plunger.

Abstract: In an electric disc brake a stator and a rotor of an electric motor are disposed in a caliper body, and a rotation of the rotor is converted into a linear movement by a ball-ramp mechanism. Such linear movement is transmitted to a piston, so that brake pads are urged against a disc rotor by the piston and a pawl member. Two external gears are provided on the rotor and internal gears are provided on two discs of the ball-ramp mechanism so that, due to engagement between the external gears and the internal gears, the two discs of the ball-ramp mechanism are rotated with a given rotational ratio with respect to the rotor to cause differential movement which in turn causes one of the discs to shift, thereby advancing the piston.

Abstract: An air damper suitably used in the glove box of an automobile comprises a cylinder having a first open end and a second end, a guide cap covering the first open end, and a piston movable in the cylinder. A compression coil spring is inserted in the cylinder between the piston and the guide cap. The coil spring forces the piston toward the second end of the cylinder in the free state. The piston has a hook piece, which is threaded with a spring. At least one end of the spring is taken out of the cylinder via the guide cap, and connected to the glove box. The guide cap has a stopper means projecting inside the coil spring and toward the piston. If the glove box is opened and the string is pulled out of the cylinder, the piston moves toward the guide cap. The piston then strikes the stopper means of the guide cap before the coil spring is fully compressed.
