Abstract: A flow distributor for distributing liquid onto a packed bed of a process column. The distributor includes an elongated liquid trough having first and second laterally spaced, longitudinally extending sidewalls and a longitudinally extending floor which extends between and interconnects the sidewalls. The sidewalls each have a plurality of holes therethrough, which holes are spaced apart longitudinally of said distributor. The distributor also includes a respective elongated liquid distributor drain pipe for each of said holes. Each pipe has first and second ends and a central internal liquid conducting passageway extending therethrough between its ends. Each pipe also has a first segment adjacent its first end and a second segment spaced longitudinally of the pipe from the first end. The segments are angularly disposed relative to one another.

Abstract: Simulations are performed for (1) the change in shape of the molten resin when a parison is formed by extruding said resin through the gap between the extruder die and core, (2) the change in shape of the molten resin due to clamping the mold around the extruded parison and blowing compressed air into the parison, and (3) the thermal deformation that will occur in the molded product due to cooling after the molded product, obtained when the molten resin has solidified in the mold, is removed from the mold in a high-temperature state. The shapes of the mold, extruder die and core that will give the desired shape of molded product are determined from the results of these simulations.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a floor covering involves leading a glass fiber matt 1 from a supply reel 2 onto a conveyor belt 3. At a first scattering station 4, a saturation material is scattered onto the matt 1 to form a scattered layer. The matt 1 is then led between upper and lower heated belts 10, 11 to gel the scattered layer. The belts are then passed between a pair of smoothing/nipping rollers to form a layer of uniform thickness. The belts are then cooled and the matt 1 with saturation layer applied is wound for further processing. In an alternative arrangement a saturation material is scattered directly onto a substrate belt at the first scattering station 4, a glass fiber matt 26, is applied over the scattered material and, at a second scattering station 28, an amount of the saturation material or a different material is scattered onto the matt 26.

Abstract: In the method, after the pattern-bearing film is fed to the female mold, the distal end of the film is fixed under a lower portion of the female mold, and at the same time the film is retreated by a force from the film supply portion. Thus, this tightens up the film so that the slacks or wrinkles cannot be formed on the film. Therefore, the film can be fortunately spread around the parting surface of the female mold. In the apparatus, the film suppressing frame is pressed to the female mold through the sliding rod arranged in the female mold, in such a manner that the female mold embraces the frame. Thus, the pressing of the frame is performed by a simple structure, and the film is accurately positioned to the internal surface of the female mold. Also, the film suppressing frame is constituted to advance from and retreat to the female mold. Thus, this causes a space between the both molds and an outside standby position to be useless. A space around the apparatus can be effectively utilized.

The tread wheel with the power unit device also does the braking, which eliminates the need for caliper brakes or hub brakes. Accordingly, a drive wheel is lighter, without the need for a heavy hub, or a heavy rim to withstand the wear and heat of friction of caliper brakes. Abstract: A vehicular towing apparatus incorporates an air bag in association with shock absorbers and a tow bar. The air bag may be selectively inflated and deflated, allowing the tow bar to be raised and lowered at will. In addition, the tow bar may be extended or retracted as desired. Several platform attachments enable the towing apparatus to be used alternatively as an automobile tow bar, a support for motorcycles or bicycles, or other items that may be supported upon a platform. The towing apparatus retracts under the vehicle, and may also serve as a vehicle step or standard trailer ball attachment point.

Abstract: A motor vehicle occupant safety device has a canister of inflator gas secured outside the passenger compartment. At least one air bag is connected to the source, and at least a portion of the air bag is stowed in the “A” pillar generally laterally relative to the passenger-side occupant prior to collision. An airtight frangible seal separates the source from the air bag. Upon collision, an electrical signal causes the seal to rupture which allows the pressurized gas to flow freely into the air bag. As the bag inflates, it moves laterally across the front of the occupant rather than toward him producing a cushion in front of the occupant. There is also a novel air bag formed from an inner bag and an outer bag.

Abstract: An air bag mounted in an automotive steering wheel and having a bag body and flow regulation fabric mounted within the bag body. The bag body includes a front panel and a rear panel and is a horizontally symmetrical, planar bag body. The front panel is provided with a gas inlet port. The flow regulation fabric branches from the gas inlet port into radially extending right and left passages that run to the outer fringes of the bag body. Circumferentially extending passages of the flow regulation fabric extend from the front ends of the radially extending passages along the fringes of the bag body vertically, and are each provided with upper and lower opening ends at which gas can be ejected toward the vertical centerline of the bag body. Upon expansion, the air bag quickly enters between the occupant's abdomen and the rim of the steering wheel.

Abstract: Crash sensor arrangement for determining whether a crash involving a vehicle requires deployment of an occupant restraint device including an elongate sensor arranged in the crush zone to provide a variable impedance as a function of a change in velocity of the crush zone and a processor for measuring the impedance of the sensor or a part thereof at a plurality of times to determine changes in the impedance. The processor provides a crash signal for consideration in the deployment of the occupant restraint device based on the determined changes in impedance. The sensor can have a U-shaped portion extending along both sides of the vehicle and across a front of the vehicle. The sensor may have a coaxial cable and an electromagnetic wave generator which generates electromagnetic waves and feeds the waves into the cable.

Abstract: An air bag body (1) is expanded by charging an air therein after being expanded in a flat surface shape. Next, by gently gripping the air bag body (1) by upper and lower blades (26, 25) radially arranged in a radial direction of the air bag body (1), a height in a radial direction of the air bag body (1) is linearly restricted along the upper and lower blades (26, 25). Next, a plurality of movable blocks (24) are forward moved toward a center of the air bag body (1), and upper and lower panels (12, 11) of the air bag body (1) are accumulated. At this time, the upper and lower panels (12, 11) of the air bag body (1) are folded in a state of being apart from each other so as to form a wave shape. Next, the air bag body (1) is rotated, a portion left in a tab shape is wound around a periphery, and a center protruding portion of the air bag body (1) is pressed from an upper side, whereby a front surface deploying portion (35) is formed.

Abstract: A strong lightweight airbag cushion for deployment in opposing relation to a vehicle occupant and the method of making same. The cushion is formed from a body of wound yarn. The body includes an interior, a face portion for contact with the occupant and a rear portion including an inlet port for the introduction of an inflation medium. The body is formed by the continuous winding of yarn around a mandrel such that the yarn is spread across the face and is disposed preferentially across the back in the area surrounding the inlet port so as to provide added strength in the region adjacent the port that is located at a radial distance greater than the radius of said port. This is accomplished by shifting or shogging the yarn supplying mechanism relative to the cushion mandrel.
