Abstract: An A/F signal proportional to an oxygen concentration in the exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine is output upon application of a voltage based on an instruction from a microcomputer. At the time an element resistance is detected, a bias instruction signal Vr from the microcomputer is converted by a D/A converter 21 to an analog signal Vb. An output voltage Vc obtained by removing high frequency components from the analog signal Vb through an LPF 22 is input to a bias control circuit 40. During this time period in which the element resistance is detected, an accurate A/F signal is not output. Therefore, the A/F signal that has theretofore prevailed is held by a Sample/Hold circuit 70 to thereby prevent the use of an erroneous A/F signal. Namely, at the time of detecting the element resistance, the detected value of the oxygen concentration is prevented from becoming abnormal. As a result, an accurate A/F control can be executed using the detected element resistance.

Abstract: An ion source 2 has a heating furnace 4 for annealing a solid material 6 to generate a steam 8 and a plasma generator 16 for ionizing the steam 8 to generate a plasma 24. The ion source 2 is for generating ion beam. An indium trifluoride is used as said solid material which has been once heated at temperature in the range of 600° C. to lower than 1170° C., thereby enabling to generate the indium ion beam in a stable amount. For the solid material 6, In(OF)xF3-x (x is 1, 2 or 3) may be used.

Abstract: A multi-spindle CNC lathe comprises a frame assembly mounted on a base and including spaced apart, rigidly interconnected subframes defining spaced, parallel alignment surfaces. A plurality of spindles each includes a collet for rotating a stock about a spindle axis. An indexing mechanism positions the spindles in alignment worth with stations located at equally spaced intervals about a central axis. Internal tool slides mounted on the alignment surface of one of the subframes each comprise a servo mechanism for advancing and retracting a cutting tool along a work station axis. External tool slides mounted on the alignment surface of the other subframe each comprise a first servo mechanism for advancing and retracting a cutting tool toward and away from the work station axis and a second servo mechanism for selectively moving the cutting tool back and forth along a path extending parallel to the work station axis.

Abstract: A method and an apparatus for laser microdissection of specimen regions (23) of interest of a specimen (4) are described. In a first step, an incomplete cut line (25) enclosing the specimen region (23) of interest is generated by means of a laser beam (7). At the incomplete point of the cut line (25), there remains a web (26) which joins the specimen region (23) of interest to the surrounding specimen (4). In a second step, the web (26) is severed with a single laser pulse directed onto it, thereby completing the cut line. The specimen region (23) of interest is in that context detached from the specimen (4) and falls by the action of gravity into a collection vessel (19).

Abstract: An arrangement for cutting an optical fiber (1) comprises a fiber cutter (2, 3) for cutting the fiber. A motor (5) is provided to operate the cutter (2, 3). To start a cutting movement, the motor (5) is controlled by a control unit (10) in response to a start signal. The start signal is generated when the fiber (1) is located in the cutter (2, 3). A detector (12) is connected to the control unit to detect when the fiber (1) snaps off and in response hereto cause the control unit (10) to generate a stop signal to stop the cutting movement. If no fiber snap off is detected, the cutting movement is automatically stopped at a predetermined position of the cutter (2, 3).

Abstract: A swivel vise for use on a machine tool having a generally horizontal upwardly exposed surface with at least one mounting slot comprises substantially identical vise sub-assemblies of opposite hand. Each assembly has a meter gauge and is angularly movable on the table surface. Angular positioning of the jaws and a workpiece relative to a saw blade or the like is readily accomplished by first establishing a desired angle and then simply tightening a binder screw, and thereafter fixing the vise sub-assemblies relative to the mounting slot with a clamping device. Cutting compound angles and other cutting operations are thus readily accommodated.

Abstract: There is provided a printer comprising: a fixed cutting edge; and a movable cutting edge that moves toward the fixed cutting edge over a predetermined cut moving range from a cut starting position to a cut ending position, thereby to cut paper in cooperation with the fixed cutting edge. In this printer, the fixed cutting edge can move between a fixed-cutting edge mount position at which it is possible to cut the paper in cooperation with the movable cutting edge and a fixed-cutting edge dismount position at which it is not possible to cut the paper in cooperation with the movable cutting edge. When the fixed cutting edge is at the fixed-cutting edge mount position, the movable cutting edge can move between a movable-cutting edge cut position, at which movement of the fixed cutting edge toward the fixed-cutting edge dismount position is not permitted, and a movable-cutting edge non-cut position, at which movement of the fixed cutting edge toward the fixed-cutting edge dismount position is permitted.
