Patent number: 6425284Abstract: Ionic species in an aqueous sample stream are analyzed by (a) chromatographically separating the ionic species in the presence of an aqueous eluent solution comprising electrolyte to form a chromatographic effluent, (b) suppressing the electrolyte in the chromatography effluent by flowing the same through a suppressor (e.g., a membrane suppressor) to form a suppressed effluent, (c) detecting the ionic species in the suppressed effluent, and (d) regenerating the suppressor by flowing a mixture of a gas stream and a regenerant liquid stream through the suppressor. The gas stream may be generated by flowing the detected suppressed effluent through an electrolytic gas generator which electrolyzes water in the effluent to hydrogen and oxygen gas. Also, pressurized gas may be directed into a reservoir of regenerant liquid for flow from said reservoir to said regenerant flow channel.Type: GrantFiled: March 8, 2000Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: Dionex CorporationInventors: Kannan Srinivasan, Christopher A. Patent number: 6425285Abstract: A slider holding a measuring tool moves along an approximately reverse U-shaped guide rail provided in parallel with a moving direction of the measuring tool without being rotated. Accordingly, a cross section of the guide rail can be enlarged without increasing the size of the entirety of a drive unit. As a result, high rigidity can be obtained while reducing the size and weight of the drive unit as compared to a conventional arrangement having two shafts. Further, linearity of the slider and the measuring tool moving along a reference surface of the guide rail can be attained with high accuracy. Further, since a pre-load means for biasing the slider toward a guide rail is provided, a position or orientation of the slider and the measuring tool can be stabilized, thus securely repeating movement of the measuring tool.Type: GrantFiled: October 26, 2000Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: Mitutoyo CorporationInventors: Nobuyoshi Fujii, Satoshi Ueda, Futoshi Doi

Patent number: 6425286Abstract: The present invention is an optical ice detection probe capable of detecting the presence, thickness and continued buildup of ice. The invention works by attaching the probe to the external surface of an airplane such as the wing, fuselage or empannage. The probe has a recessed surface, which is mounted to face directly into the airflow. One or more beams are passed over and parallel to the recessed surface. These beams can be of any useful wavelength, however for best results visible, infrared or ultraviolet beams should be used. Ice on the recessed surface interrupts the beams thereby indicating the presence of ice. If two or more beams are used, then each beam emitter is paired with a beam detector and the corresponding beam detector only detects the beam from that emitter. This can be accomplished by numerous methods.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1999Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Inventors: Mark Anderson, Larry Meiners

Patent number: 6425328Abstract: There are provided a plate-making sheet and a printing device for printing on the plate-making sheet. The plate-making sheet is in the form of a strip and for being printed with stamp characters to be engraved on a stamping face of a stamp, in parallel with a process for making the stamp, for permitting checking of the stamp characters and for indication of the stamp characters on a back surface of the stamp. The plate-making sheet comprises a backing sheet, and an adhesive sheet laminated on the backing sheet and having a surface to be printed with the stamp characters. The surface of adhesive sheet is formed with a character check area to be printed with the stamp characters for permitting the checking of the stamp characters, and at least one indication character area to be printed with the stamp characters for the indication of the stamp characters. In the printing device, a printing mechanism prints stamp characters in a character check area and at least one indication character area.Type: GrantFiled: July 25, 2001Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignees: Seiko Epson Corporation, King Jim Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideo Sodeyama, Kenji Watanabe, Takuya Suetani, Kiyoshi Ogawa

Patent number: 6425329Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention increases the operating envelope for large format thermal ink jet printing via a directed fluid flow from specially-designed orifices which promote fluid flow on a printed surface adjacent a printing zone in a large format ink jet printer where in addition to the optimized fluid flow one or more heating elements are inserted directly into the fluid flow to thereby promote drying of said printed surface. In one embodiment, a single dual-duct plennum spans the width of a roll-fed large format ink jet print engine and a first duct distributes heated air downward (in the direction of media web movement) and a second duct evacuates a printing space so that any potentially harmful ink vapors or other air-borne contaminant is appropriately fluidly coupled to either a remote exhaust vent or vapor capture vessel.Type: GrantFiled: September 5, 2001Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: MacDermid Acumen, Inc.Inventors: Kevin R. Patent number: 6425330Abstract: A method and apparatus for changing a printing plate on a plate cylinder in a sheet-fed offset printing machine is provided. The printing plate is first fed to the plate cylinder with its print-end edge leading the print-start edge. The print-end edge of the printing plate is then fixed in a first fixing device on the plate cylinder assigned to the print-end edge of the printing plate. The plate cylinder is then rotated in a direction opposite to the direction of rotation used during a printing operation to draw the printing plate around the outer circumference of the plate cylinder. The print-start edge of the printing plate is then fixed to a second fixing device on the plate cylinder that is assigned to the print-start edge of the printing plate and tensioned on the plate cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2000Date of Patent: July 30, 2002Assignee: MAN Roland Druckmaschinen AGInventors: Karlheinz Weber, Michael Rother, Berthold Seib, Bernd Lindner, Helmut Schild, Reinhold Heilmann
