Abstract: A panel connector is disclosed that is used to make a corner in a wall system and a method of installing that component. The panel connector defines two channels into which respective portions of two side panels are inserted, in which the side panels usually serve as forms or walls in forming concrete wall structures. The panel connectors form a corner between the two side panels so that those side panels having a predetermined angle therebetween. It is noted that this abstract is provided to comply with the rules requiring an abstract that will allow a searcher or other reader to ascertain quickly the subject matter of the technical disclosure. The abstract is submitted with the understanding that it will not be used to interpret or limit the scope or meaning of the claims pursuant to 37 C.F.R. §1.72(b).

Abstract: Disclosed is an intercooler system which uses an air conditioner evaporator coil or other mechanical refrigeration device to cool air flowing therethrough prior to intake of the air by an internal combustion engine. The invention thereby reduces the temperature of the air entering the engine well beyond the temperature reduction provided by a conventional intercooler. The invention may be used to chill the air to a point cooler than ambient temperature or even down to below freezing. In some embodiments, a conventional intercooler may be used to partially cool the air before it enters the intercooler of the invention. In other embodiments, the intercooler may be used in combination with a novel engine-driven supercharger having a variable-speed drive. The engine-driven supercharger of the invention may alternatively be used independently of the disclosed intercooler.

Abstract: A combustor for a gas turbine engine includes inner and outer liners with a row 112, 114 of dilution air holes penetrating through each liner. The row 114 of holes in the outer liner comprise at least a set of large size, major outer holes 116 and may also include a set of smaller size minor outer holes 118 circumferentially intermediate neighboring pairs of the major outer holes. The row 112 of holes in the inner liner include dilution air holes circumferentially offset from the major outer holes and may also include a set of minor holes 122 circumferentially intermediate major inner holes 120. The major and minor holes admit respective major and minor jets of dilution air into the combustor. The unique distribution of major and minor holes and the corresponding major and minor dilution air jets helps to minimize NOx emissions and regulates the spatial temperature profile of the exhaust gases discharged from the combustor.

Abstract: A dual-fluid heat engine having a gas turbine and an open cycle steam turbine. The gas turbine has a compressor for compressing a first working fluid, the compressor having a compressor outlet. The gas turbine has a combustion chamber in fluid communication with the compressor outlet. The turbine portion of the gas turbine has an inlet in fluid communication with the combustion chamber for performing work by expansion of the first working fluid, and a gas turbine exhaust. A heat recovery exchanger is coupled to the gas turbine exhaust having a heat recovery inlet and an outlet for heating a second working fluid, water. The water is converted into steam in the heat recovery exchanger. A pump increases the pressure of the water prior to entrance in the heat recovery exchanger. An atmospheric exhaust expansion steam turbine extracts energy from the heated second working fluid to drive an electrical generator.

The heat exchanger is filled around the exchange tubes with a two-component bath, the volume of a primary component substantially exceeding the volume of a secondary component. The secondary component has a boiling temperature that is lower than the boiling temperature of the primary component, and both are lower than the boiling temperature of the cryogenic liquid. In one example, the liquid to be densified is oxygen, the primary component is liquid nitrogen, and a secondary component is liquid hydrogen. The secondary component is preferably injected into the heat exchanger in separate flows to prevent localized freezing of the first component.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing moisture from within an electronics enclosure is provided. In particular, dehumidification is accomplished by removing air from the enclosure, cooling the air thereby causing condensation of water vapor from the air, then heating the dehumidified air and returning the heated and dehumidified air to the enclosure. A single heat pump provides cooling and heating functions, effectively recouping heat extracted from the air to be cooled, and transferring the extracted heat to the air prior to its return to the enclosure. In this manner, electronics within the enclosure may be operated at temperatures below the dew point of ambient air surrounding the enclosure, without requiring a thermally insulated enclosure. Devices are provided to collect and purge condensate from the system, either in a continuous or periodic manner. Embodiments employing conventional vapor compression cycle heat pumps and thermoelectric heat pumps are described.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for conditioning air for an enclosure is disclosed in which a supply air stream, preferably from the atmosphere is cooled by the cooling coil of a refrigerant cooling system to reduce the temperature and humidity thereof to first predetermined level. The thus cooled and dehumidified air is then passed through a segment of a rotating desiccant wheel under conditions which reduce moisture content and increase temperature to a second predetermined temperature range. The supply air is then delivered from the desiccant wheel to the enclosure. The desiccant wheel is regenerated by heating a separate regeneration air stream, also preferably from the atmosphere, using the condensing coil of the refrigerant system in order to increase the regeneration air stream temperature to a third predetermined temperature range. The thus heated regeneration air stream is then passed through another segment of the rotating desiccant wheel to regenerate the wheel.
