Publication number: 20020157471Abstract: A system for online monitoring the condition of a thermal barrier coating on the vanes and/or blades of a combustion turbine, or other forms of component deterioration affecting the acoustic properties of the vanes and/or blades. The system begins with a signal generator for transmitting a signal to an acoustic transmitter, and then to an acoustic waveguide secured within the turbine, adjacent to a vane. Acoustic waves passing through the vane's coating will have a certain magnitude and velocity when passing through an intact coating, which will change as the coating deteriorates. Additional variation of the acoustic wave will occur due to pressure pulses from passing blades, with the magnitude of the pressure pulses increasing as the blade's coating deteriorates. The acoustic waves are then received by a second acoustic waveguide.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 5, 2001Publication date: October 31, 2002Applicant: Siemens Westinghouse Power CorporationInventors: Ronald Thomas Harrold, Zal N. Publication number: 20020157507Abstract: A self adjusting grasping pliers. Upper and lower grasping jaws are pivotally connected together. A first handle extends rearward from the upper grasping jaw, and a second handle pivotally connected to the lower grasping jaw extends rearward thereof. A toggle member connects to one end of the second handle extending upwards into the longitudinal slot of the first handle. A pressure adjustment control is connected to one end of the handle, and extends into the handle a distance which is adjustable. A grasping size control rod extends through the pressure adjustment control engaging one end of the toggle member. A spring is located between a stop fixed threaded to the control rod and the pressure adjustment control. The pressure control is adjusted to establish a nominal grasping force. During grasping of an object, the control rod can move against the force of the spring limiting the force exerted on an object between the jaws.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 30, 2001Publication date: October 31, 2002Inventor: Wayne W. Publication number: 20020157509Abstract: A self-aligning arbor nut system is disclosed. The self-aligning arbor nut system, according to the present invention, includes a body formed with a duct substantially coincident with the longitudinal axis of the body. A substantially circular ring known as a swivel also is provided. The ring is engageable with either end of the duct. An o-ring is included. The o-ring is engageable with a groove in the wall of the ring, and with a slot formed on the inner surface of the duct at both ends of the duct to reverse engagement of the nut with an arbor. The swivel is engageable with at least one end of the body, and in fact is engageable with both ends of the body. When mounted on an arbor, the swivel aligns and helps prevent a bent or distorted arbor. A circumferential depression may be formed around the outside surface of the body. One or more bores is formed in the circumferential depression for manipulation with a key.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 26, 2001Publication date: October 31, 2002Applicant: Kenneth Turos to Sun Standard, Inc.Inventor: Kenneth Turos
