Abstract: The cutting blade of a continuous motion saw is mounted on a skew arm which rotates about an axis which is skewed relative to the path along which the product to be cut is advanced. The blade rotates about an axis which is parallel to the path. The blade orbits in a planetary manner to compensate for the skew angle and to ensure that the blade remains perpendicular to the path. Grinding stones for the blade are mounted radially inwardly of the blade throughout the entire orbit of the blade.

Abstract: The invention relates to a cutting mold set of metal tubes, comprising of the following: a cutting mold unit that moves in relation to a lower mold unit is installed on one side of an upper mold unit, the upper mold unit is capable of moving in relation to a lower mold unit. On the cutting mold unit is installed a first mold block with a cutting hole, and on the lower mold unit is installed a second mold block with a through hole, the cutting hole and the through hole matching and communicating with each other. With the metal tube inserted inside the through hole and the cutting hole, when the upper mold unit and the cutting mold move toward the lower mold unit, the cutting hole and the through hole move in relation to each other to create a cutting force to cut the metal tube, thereby achieving the objectives of speedy and safe operation, enhancing safety in cutting operation, and reducing waste iron scraps.

Abstract: An improved comb for a harmonica including one or more check valves mounted within the comb for improving performance and tonality and simplifying construction. The use of check valves mounted over valve slots has been previously disclosed as a method of increasing the musical range and volume of the instrument. This invention incorporates check valves but locates them within the comb of the harmonica. By placing all the check valves within the comb, construction of the harmonica is greatly simplified, air loss between various components is greatly decreased, and check valves are removed from close proximity with reeds thereby decreasing interference with the reeds, increasing volume and performance, and increasing the resonance of overtones.

Abstract: The invention relates to a wind instrument, for instance, a saxophone or flute. The invention is based on the discovery that a wind instrument, for instance of copper or brass, can be markedly improved by at least one chemically applied coating of hard material. Such a coating applied to the inner side of the tube improves the sound. A coating of phosphor-nickel, preferably with PTFE, applied to the outer side of the instrument has an exceptionally attractive appearance and is less susceptible to scratching. If a coating is applied in swivel bearings of the valve mechanism, disturbing mechanical sounds are reduced and the mechanism moves with less resistance.

Musical clashes during mixing are avoided by analysing intrinsic amplitudes of the two tracks at similar frequencies to detect the likelihood of a clash, and in the event a clash is detected, reducing the output amplitude of one of the tracks at the relevant frequency.

Abstract: A flow control apparatus for a fluid cylinder for a workpiece holder includes a flow restricting member and a flexible sealing member. The flow restricting member defines a first passageway and a sealing surface. The flexible sealing member is positioned around the sealing surface. A second passageway is defined between the sealing member and a sealing surface of the flow restricting member when the sealing member is pushed away from the sealing surface in response to fluid flow in a first direction. When fluid flow is applied in the opposite direction, the sealing member moves to engage the sealing surface to substantially limit or preclude fluid flow between the sealing member and the sealing surface in the second direction. The fluid flow in the second direction is thus restricted to flow through the first passageway, thereby slowing or controlling the flow in the second direction.

Abstract: A method for automatically providing a printing plate to a plate cylinder includes the steps of aligning a first edge of a printing plate against a cylinder adjacent to a plate cylinder, moving the first edge of the printing plate into a gap in the plate cylinder, and wrapping the printing plate about the plate cylinder. The present invention also includes a device for attaching a printing plate to a plate cylinder comprising a first set of grippers for gripping a printing plate and aligning the printing plate against a cylinder adjacent to the plate cylinder, and a second set of grippers for moving the printing plate toward a gap in the plate cylinder. An offset printing press having the device is also disclosed.

Abstract: A coupling assembly for a printing system that includes a threaded bolt that engages a threaded bore of a first dovetail nut. The assembly also includes a second dovetail nut with a bore through which a shaft of the bolt passes. Each dovetail nut has two tapered portions located on opposite sides of the bore of the respective nut. When the bolt/dovetail nut combination is assembled, the two dovetail nuts are located a distance apart so that the tapered portions of the two nuts define a pair of slots. To connect sections of the web guide together, each slot engages a flared connector of a respective section.

Abstract: An oxidizer package for use in a solid fuel propellant system. The oxidizer package comprises a solid oxidizer in the form of discrete pellets of predetermined geometric shape. The pellets are arranged in an array with spaces amongst the pellets. A holder is provided for maintaining the pellets in the array for receipt of a binder introduced to spaces amongst the array of pellets. Preferred propellants include hydrazinium nitroformate and nitronium perchlorate. This arrangement for the pellets can achieve loadings as high as 85% by weight for the pellets.

Abstract: Munitions are dropped from military aircraft to quickly combat large area fires within vast threatened regions. Each munition has a shell-shaped case having a chamber containing an air-bag power module and fire retardant. A lid closes one end of the chamber, and switches on the case provide signals for the air-bag power module to suddenly forcefully displace the lid from the chamber by the air-bag module and suddenly forcefully eject the fire retardant from the chamber and out of the case by the air-bag module. Munitions containing fire retardant can be targeted accurately at single hot spots, isolated structures, and along fire lines or can be quickly and accurately dropped to create a protected zone behind an area that has been made not to burn by munitions to protect fire fighters trapped in the path of runaway fires. Munitions are deployed from aircraft by military crewmen without requiring additional training.
