Abstract: A pointing device disposed at a specific position on top of a tablet receives an electromagnetic signal transmitted from the tablet, converts the signal to the digital format, and then sends the digitized signal back to the tablet. The signal transmission process includes signal confirmation to check if the signal received is of the highest intensity. The tablet receiving the digitized signal also has a confirmation process of its own, and then determines the coordinate position of the pointing device placed over the planar surface of the tablet based on the signal data. According to the method mentioned above, the digitized signal transmission between the pointing device and the tablet can be executed with no danger of interference over the coordinate designation signals, and also a number of error-protection measures are incorporated into the system to enhance the system accuracy and stability.

For example, in the binary input case, the signal-space detector divides a multidimensional space into two disjoint regions corresponding to opposite symbol decisions. The detection system/method determines in which region the observation vector falls and releases a corresponding hard decision, e.g., a binary symbol decision. Further, a soft decision can be provided that measures the reliability of the symbol decision.

Abstract: In order to provide a curved surface model generating technique which makes use of both advantages of a modeling method by using distance image data and a modeling method by using silhouette data while photographic and measurement data from less angles are utilized, firstly a curved surface model generating section inputs 2D color image data and distance image data. When silhouette image data are extracted from the 2D color image data, initial model data are generated by the Volume Intersection method or the like. The distance image data are converted into world coordinate values by using photographing position/posture data. In a fitting processing section, a fidelity where the distance with the distance image data is used as a measure and a fidelity where the distance with the silhouette image data is used as a measure are added to be evaluated, and a curved surface is fitted to initial model data so that curve surface model data are generated.

Abstract: The invention is an apparatus for physically exchanging a force with a user in an environment local to the user. A connection element connects to a user's body member and a linkage between the connection element and ground. The linkage includes means for powering at least three independent freedoms of the connection element relative to ground and means for maintaining at least one independent freedom of the connection element relative to ground free of power. Up to three independent freedoms of the connection element may be maintained free of power, and up to five independent freedoms may be powered. Other aspects of the invention include a two actuator counter-balance for controlling a point on a link. The invention also includes apparatus for establishing a virtual, switch, which presents to the user the force and displacement relationship of a spring switch.

Abstract: An interactive graphics-based analysis tool for performing reliability analysis of a system formed from a variety of subsystems and components within each subsystem. The tool uses a hierarchical representation component to organize the system, subsystems and components into a hierarchical representation. An interactive selection component provides different options for analyzing the hierarchical representation. A reliability analysis component, responsive to the hierarchical representation component and the interactive selection component, allows a user to perform a reliability analysis at any level of the hierarchical representation.

Abstract: A moving picture recording device includes a random-access, computer-readable and writable storage medium to provide non-linear access to recorded clips. The device provides digital capture of both video and audio information. Multiple data paths are provided to allow recording to and playback from the storage medium. Lists are maintained to manage recorded clips and edited events. An outtake list of deleted clips is also maintained. An event list includes a list of video events including clips from the storage medium as well as other video sources including a camera or external video. With switching circuitry, recorded clips can be viewed during editing while live images are output to a program output. An editing interface includes dedicated keys for performing standard recording functions as well as a display with associated input keys having adaptive functions. The textual display indicates the function currently associated with the input key.

Abstract: A system and method for creating and using configuration diagrams for configuring distributed systems. The methods described herein may be used for various types of operations in configuring distributed systems, including creating programs, managing programs in the distributed system, deploying programs to various distributed devices, configuring remote execution or inter-operation of distributed programs, and executing distributed applications. Embodiments of the invention utilize graphical iconic-based techniques for performing the above operations. The configuration diagram may include device icons which represent devices and program icons which represent programs. Device icons and program icons may be associated with each other to accomplish various program creation and deployment operations. Device icons and program icons may also interact with graphical program nodes or icons. Context sensitive device connections and/or program connections are displayed.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for use in enhancing interactive presentations. Access is gained to a computer-based presentation that is presentable by conventional desktop presentation software, and a feature is added to the computer-based presentation. An aspect of the feature may be presentable by the conventional desktop presentation software. Using Internet-standard protocols, a real-time directive is issued to a playback device based on the feature and a response to the directive is received. A real time analysis of results of issuing the directive may be provided based at least in part on the response.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for displaying information from the Internet. In one embodiment, the invention generates a plurality of content modules, each content module comprising a subset of the content of at least one web site. The content modules are then stored in a content module data directory. When a query is received from a user, the query is assigned to at least one content module. The results of the query are displayed on two regions of the user's screen. On a first region of the user's display screen a list of information relating to the plurality of retrieved web sites is displayed. On a second region of said display screen, information from said at least one content module associated with the query is displayed.

Abstract: A 3D video conferencing station (100) comprises a video camera (102) for capturing video signals and a depth map calculator (104) for creating a depth map (120) of a user (114) of the 3D video conferencing station (100). The video signals together with the depth map are transmitted as 3D video data. The 3D video conferencing station (100) further comprises a stereoscopic display device (112) for displaying stereo images, which are calculated on the basis of received 3D video data. The depth map which is generated by the depth map calculator (104) is also used for estimating the position of the user (114) in order to control the calculation of the stereo images.

Abstract: A portion of markup language source selected for display is scanned for tags associated with graphical elements. Each detected graphical element with the selected markup language source portion is replaced with one of a set of placeholders each having a label corresponding to one button, where actuation of a button initiates display of a graphical element replaced by the corresponding placeholder. The placeholders are reused to replace other graphical elements within other portions of the markup language source when such other portions are selected for display.
