Abstract: An ID tag in an electronic device with a CPU and an antenna coil can communicate with the CPU through signal lines to store operation record data of the electronic device in a non-volatile memory therein. The record data is readable by a reader writer by transmission of the data with the antenna coil. A CPU including a semiconductor chip including a central processing unit portion, an ID tag portion can be used in an electronic device to store and read the operation record data. An ID tag for an electronic device has a communication circuit for communicating with a CPU for the electronic device to store operation record data of the electronic device from the CPU. The ID tag can store ticket data in a telephone to use as a ticket. The ID tags in electronic devices can record payment data for preventing illegal use.

Abstract: Security can be provide for lottery tickets having data printed thereon in a bar code or other machine readable media by covering only a portion of the bar code with a scratch-off material. Removing the scratch-off material, or in some cases only a portion of the scratch-off material, can permit machine validation of the lottery tickets. For bar codes having a specified level of redundancy, it is desirable to cover at least enough of the bar code so as to prevent the machine reading of ticket validation data encoded in the bar code. Also, a lottery ticket can include a bar code printed on the ticket having both inventory and validation data along with a bar code printed on the front of the ticket including the validation data. All or part of the bar code printed on the front of the ticket can be covered by a scratch-off material.

Abstract: A system and method for automatic and semi-automatic document indexing preferably performs document recognition procedures on scanned document data and searches for sub-section delimiters. An index or table of contents is then generated for the document based on sub-section delimiters located in the search. For example, text strings, font size, or other symbols or distinguishing characteristics are used as delimiters in order to automatically find chapter or sub-section headings. A system operator may make adjustments to the automatically determined subdivisions. Alternatively, a plurality of document pages is displayed, for example, in thumbnail form, and the system operator indicates subdivision demarcation points within the displayed thumbnails. The indicated demarcation points are used as sub-section delimiters, and document subdivision is performed as described above. In yet another alternative, demarcation symbols are added to the document prior to scanning.

Abstract: A rail brace assembly provides positive support for a stock rail mounted on a switch brace plate. The assembly includes a rail brace that it is installed over a fixed block attached to the brace plate. The block has a slot and a channel that accept a mating rib and tapered wings connected to the underside of the rail brace. The interaction of these elements provides vertical restraint for the rail brace. The brace assembly includes a stop that is secured to the brace plate and a tapered wedge that is disposed between the stop and the rail brace. Upon driving the wedge longitudinally of the rail, lateral force is applied to the rail brace and the rail. The stop and the wedge employ a longitudinally extending tongue and groove to prevent relative vertical movement therebetween. The junction between the wedge and the rail brace is defined by mating convex-concave surfaces.

The closure member is displaceable with respect to the body between a first configuration and a second configuration. The first configuration prevents fuel flow through the body, and the second configuration permits fuel flow through the body. The piezoelectric device displaces the closure member from the first configuration to the second configuration. The compensator is coupled with the piezoelectric device and includes a first tube, a second tube, a piston, and fluid. The first tube extends along the axis from a first end portion that occludes the first tube. Abstract: An adjustable stator is mounted in the lower end of a pop-up sprinkler riser and includes a vertically extending frame portion and a pair of valve portions that extend horizontally from an upper end of the frame portion. A coil spring is squeezed between a lower end of a drive subassembly and a mandrel mounted in a lower end of the frame portion. The mandrel and the frame portion have mating projections which allow the vertical position of the mandrel to be adjusted. This adjusts the downward biasing force exerted by the coil spring against the frame portion and the valve members carried thereby. This varies the pressure of a water stream flowing past a turbine in the riser, and the speed of rotation of the turbine which in turn changes the speed of rotation of a nozzle driven by the turbine.

Abstract: An apparatus for lifting a roll of previously wound material and for unwinding the material from the roll is disclosed. The apparatus includes a hollow column around which a lift arm assembly is moved from a load position to an unwind position. A lifting mechanism for lifting the roll after it is loaded at the load position is also provided. A plurality of lift arm assemblies can be provided so that a stand-by roll can be loaded onto the apparatus to be quickly rotated into an unwinding position. The lift arm assembly supports the roll without the use of a shaft through the core of the roll. A drive motor is provided which includes a splined shaft for engaging the roll and turning the roll to unwind the material therefrom.

Abstract: This invention relates to a hard landing indication system that will provide a quantitative assessment that a hard landing did or did not occur at the last landing of an airplane. A hard landing can cause structural damage to an airplane. An airplane that has been declared to have a hard landing must be grounded until an inspection of the structure has been made to determine if repairs are required.

Abstract: A transmission system for an aircraft that include a first geared member having a plurality of teeth arranged about its outside surface to form at least one acceleration channel and at least one deceleration channel. At least one mating geared member is dimensioned to mate with the first geared member such that rotation of the mating geared member causes the first geared member to rotate. An input shaft rotationally couples one of the mating geared member and the first geared member to a source of rotation and an output shaft rotationally couples other. The first geared member is dimensioned to interact with said mating geared member in such a way as to vary a speed of rotation of said output shaft without a corresponding change in a speed of rotation of said input shaft.

Abstract: A thrust reverser system for a jet engine has a thrust reverser sleeve lock, preferably for each thrust reverser sleeve, that provides at least one of the redundant anti-deployment mechanisms of the thrust reverser. The thrust reverser sleeve lock has a lock pin that engages a lock pin hole in a slider of the thrust reverser when the thrust reverser sleeve is in a stowed position and the thrust reverser sleeve lock is in a lock position to prevent the thrust reverser sleeve from deploying. The thrust reverser sleeve lock is located out of a plane in which other anti-deployment mechanisms of the thrust reverser are located.

The rack provides direct mechanical connection to aircraft structure, eliminating multipiece turnbuckle assemblies. Vertical rails and support braces each attach at a first end to a combination of flat plates and drip shields, the flat plates and drip shields supporting the antenna equipment. A second end of each vertical rail and support brace attaches directly to aircraft structure by mechanical fasteners. The equipment rack design provides a minimal part design, providing a lower cost for both the equipment rack and its installation.

Abstract: The liquid galley refrigeration system for cooling food carts for aircraft employs an intermediate working fluid to transfer heat from one or more food carts to one or more remote chillers, allowing the carts and chillers to be advantageously distributed in the aircraft. A plurality of heat exchanges effect a cooling of the carts wherein heat from the food cart is first transferred to a first airflow; heat from the first airflow is then transferred to an intermediate working fluid that is circulated between a location immediately adjacent the food carts and a remote chiller; heat from the intermediate working fluid is subsequently transferred to the chiller working fluid; and finally, heat from the chiller working fluid is expelled. While the chiller working fluid undergoes a phase change in order to transfer heat from the intermediate working fluid to the cooling air, the intermediate working fluid remains in its liquid phase throughout its circulation.
