Abstract: In a signal detecting method of repeating the processes of initiating accumulation of charge signals by switching an integrating amplifier to an accumulator mode, retaining a first electric signal outputted from the integrating amplifier immediately after switching to the accumulator mode, finding a difference as a signal component between a second electric signal outputted from the integrating amplifier immediately before switching to a reset mode after completing accumulation of the charge signals and the first electric signal, and converting and outputting the signal component into a digital signal. Here, the signal component concerning a first charge signal is retained by second signal retaining means and then converted into the digital signal. Further, the integrating amplifier is switched to the accumulator mode after completing accumulation concerning the first charge signal but before completing conversion into the digital signal to initiate accumulation concerning a second charge signal.

Abstract: The location of a cellular telephone handset relative to the sites of two pairs of fixed cellular transceivers is determined by responding to the phase difference of radio waves the handset emits, as coupled to the sites. The phase difference is detected by supplying replicas of the waves received at the first and second sites to first and second electro-acoustical transducers at opposite ends of a Bragg cell. One Bragg cell is thus associated with each pair of cellular transceivers. A laser beam incident on each Bragg cell is deflected by a moving optical grating resulting from the interaction of acoustic waves applied by the electro-acoustical transducers to the particular Bragg cell. The laser beam deflection angle for each Bragg cell determines the relative phase angle of the acoustic waves in that cell.

Abstract: A magnetic interface generator generates a magnetic interface at a center frequency f0. The magnetic interface generator is a passive array of spirals that are deposited on a substrate surface. The magnetic interface is generated in a plane at a distance Z above the surface of the substrate. The distance Z where the magnetic interface is created is determined by the cell size of the spiral array, where the cell size is based on the spiral arm length and the spacing S between the spirals. The center frequency of the magnetic interface is determined by the average track length DAV of the spirals in the spiral array. In embodiments, the spiral array is one sub-layer in a multi-layer substrate. The spacing S of the spiral array is chosen to project the magnetic interface to another layer in the multi-layer substrate so as to improve performance of a circuit in the plane of the magnetic interface.

Abstract: In a liquid crystal display device that uses a liquid crystal material having spontaneous polarization and is actively driven by a TFT, a voltage corresponding to image data is applied twice by driving the TFT of each pixel electrode on a line by line basis of a liquid crystal panel, during writing in one frame. During erasure in one frame, voltage application to liquid crystal by batch selection of all the pixel electrodes is performed three times. With this three times of voltage application, it is possible to achieve a black display state in each pixel and make the stored charge amount at the liquid crystal in each pixel substantially zero.
