Abstract: An HVAC system has two variable-air-volume (VAV) systems, a first VAV system for moving fresh air and a second VAV system for moving recycled air. Both the fresh air and recycled air are cooled and dehumidified by a single heat-exchanging coil. The fresh and recycled air streams travel independently in separate ducts until the air streams reach a remotely located mixing box where the air streams mix and ventilate into a room or zone of a building. The HVAC system uses carbon dioxide and temperature sensors in order to regulate the flow of fresh and recycled air to various mixing boxes throughout the building.

Abstract: The present invention of a structure and manufacture of a heat sink with high heat transmission mainly uses a shear stress caused by stirring to break or crush the solidified arborescent primary crystal at a solid/liquid two-phase area of a aluminum alloy to form a slag fluid with ball-filled solid crushed grit; then ceramic grains are added in and dispersed by the solid grains scattered in the liquid-phase metal; through continuous stirring, the aluminum alloy becomes a fine mixed fluid of ceramic and aluminum alloy without arborescent forms; finally, the external configuration of a heat sink is accomplished through directly compression casting by using the special nature of the aluminum alloy to mold the entire heat sink and to enhance the effect of heat dissipation of the heat sink of the same structure through the high heat transmission efficiency of the ceramic grains.

Abstract: The invention provides a thermal transfer interface for dissipating heat from an object to a thermal spreader and/or heat sink. The spreader forms a plurality of passageways. A spring element couples with the spreader. A plurality of thermally conductive pins moves along the passageways, extending outwardly via the spring element for conformal and thermal contact with the object. Thermal energy transfers from the object to the spreader through the collective area defining the interface between the pins and the spreader. The spring element is preferably thermally conductive; and thermal grease added to the interface may beneficially decrease thermal resistances due to microscopic unevenness at the contact between the object and the pins and/or spring element. An additional heat sink may couple to the spreader to dissipate additional thermal energy.

Abstract: Tools for expanding downhole tubulars into each other or in open hole are disclosed. One embodiment uses a movable cone biased by Bellville washers to move longitudinally against such bias and allow collets to move radially in or out to a predetermined maximum diameter. A release system allows collet retraction to avoid hang up on removal. In an alternate embodiment, more suitable for open hole applications, pressurized gas pushes a movable cone longitudinally against the collets. A stationary cone is on the opposite side of the collets from the movable cone. The collet rides out or in between the cones and raises the gas pressure when forced in. A pressure actuated release allows the lower cone to shift downwardly to allow the collets to retract for removal.

Abstract: A bi-directional jar with bit turning capability is disclosed. To jar down, weight is set down on the tool and pressure is built up on a piston to move the body up while compressing a spring. When spring force opens the valve in the piston, the housing comes down striking an anvil as the flow rushes through the piston before the valve recluses for another cycle. The valve member features a hydraulic brake to slow its movement after the valve is forced open. Clutching action comes from an angled spline through a spirally cut cylinder, which reduces in diameter to engage the bit to turn. A single spring acts on a pair of pistons for bi-directional jarring. Modularity allows rapid conversion to uni-directional operation.

Abstract: A communications cable comprises an elongate cable jacket having an internal cavity and a plurality of twisted pairs of insulated conductors disposed in the internal cavity of the cable jacket, each of the conductors being insulated with a polymeric layer. Each of the insulated conductors within each of the twisted pairs of conductors defines a twinning helix having a first rotative direction, and each of the twisted pairs defines a bunching helix having a second rotative direction, the second rotative direction being opposite that of the first rotative direction. In this configuration, the communications cable can provide acceptable crosstalk and attenuation performance, even with foamed insulators that have demonstrated unacceptable performance when twinned and bunched in the same rotative direction.
