Abstract: A device for attachment to a vacuum cleaner to combine the steps of scraping articles from a surface and removing the resulting debris. The device includes a first end which attaches to a vacuum cleaner. The second end of the device has a substantially rectangular shape. A slot is formed beneath the second end near the opening of the device. The slot has a first width slightly greater than the width of the safety end of a scraping blade. The slot also has a second width slightly greater than the width of scraping portion of the scraping blade. A scraping blade is inserted into the slot so that the scraping edge of the blade extends just in front of the opening of the second end of the device. Articles can then be removed from a surface by the blade. The debris which the results is sucked up through the second end and into the tank of a vacuum cleaner.

Abstract: The “Protector Sleeve For Wires And Pipes In Wood Frame Construction” is a cylindrical grommet/bushing, that looks like a short length of pipe, that fits snugly in any hole drilled through a stud or joist in wood frame construction and which has anchors on both sides to keep it in place. When the “Protector Sleeve” is in place it shields the hole that was drilled and thereby protects the wire or pipe that the hole was drilled for from being punctured by any screw or nail that might be driven through the wall and into the stud. The “Protector Sleeve” also serves to provide a smooth surface for wires to pass through as they are being pulled through several studs at a time towards their end point. The “Protector Sleeve” also reinforces the stud where it was weakened by the hole that was drilled.

Abstract: This invention relates to specific, improved spun-bonded nonwoven fabrics comprised of continuous multi-component longitudinally splittable fibers. The resulting nonwoven fabrics exhibit enhanced flexibility, drape, softness, thickness, moisture absorption capacity, moisture vapor transmission rate, and cleanliness in comparison with other nonwovens of the same fiber construction. These improved aesthetic and performance characteristics permit expansion of high-strength nonwoven fabric materials into other markets and industries currently dominated by woven and knit fabrics that exhibit such properties themselves, but at high cost and requiring greater manufacturing complexity. Such enhanced fabrics are subjected to certain air impingement procedures, for instance through directing low-pressure gaseous fluids at high velocity to the surface of the targeted nonwoven fabric. Also encompassed within this invention is the method of treating such a specific nonwoven fabric with this air impingement procedure.

Abstract: An armature for a brush commutated electric motor having a distributed coil winding arrangement for reducing brush arcing and electromagnetic interference (EMI). The winding pattern involves segmenting each coil into first and second subcoil portions with differing pluralities of turns. Each subcoil portion is wound around separate pairs of spaced apart slots of a lamination stack. Adjacent coils are wound such that one subcoil portion of each is wound in a common slot to therefore form an overlapping arrangement of each pair of adjacently coils. The winding pattern serves to “shift” the resultant magnetic axes of each coil in such a manner so as to significantly reduce brush arcing and the EMI resulting therefrom. The reduction in EMI is sufficient to eliminate the need for EMI reducing components, such as chokes, which have typically been required to maintain EMI to acceptably low levels.

Abstract: A method of removing an optical device contained within a device package from a circuit board, wherein the device package is secured to the circuit board using an adhesive pad. The method includes peeling a portion of the adhesive pad away from the circuit board, inserting an optical removal tool between the optical device and the circuit board, wherein the optical removal tool has a pair of fork portions and a cavity positioned between the fork portions, and the fork portions straddle one or more leads on the optical device during the inserting step, and prying the remainder of the adhesive pad away from the circuit board using the optical device removal tool.

Abstract: The present invention is a strengthened fiber optic. The first embodiment of the invention consists of pre-coating a fiber optic waveguide with an ultra violet (UV)/visible light-curable resin such that the resin buffers the fiber waveguide. The pre-coated fiber optic waveguide is then cured in an UV/visible light oven at a temperature at ambient or above. An UV/visible light curable resin is pre-heated to a selected temperature and the buffered fiber optic waveguide and the at least one reinforcing fiber are transported through a binding resin bath, the fiber optic waveguide maintaining linear alignment throughout the bath as at least one reinforcing fiber is disposed about the fiber optic waveguide. The resin coated fiber optic waveguide and the at least one reinforcing fiber are then cured in an UV/visible light curing station so as to form a fiber optic cable.

Abstract: A method of producing a cam lobe piece of an assembled camshaft in a valve operating system for an internal combustion engine. The method comprises (a) forming a profile of the cam lobe piece by upsetting a material under forging to obtain an intermediately formed body; (b) piercing a central portion of the intermediately formed body to form a shaft bore; and (c) ironing an inner peripheral surface of the pierced intermediately formed body to form unevenness at the inner peripheral surface, all accomplished by cold working. The material at the forming the profile of the cam lobe piece has a first section located on a side of a cam nose of the cam lobe piece, and a second section located longitudinally opposite to the first section. The material has a thickness which gradually increases in a direction from the second section to the first section.

Abstract: A method of removing a sensing rod from a hydraulic water pump includes an access plug, a sealing o-ring, and an end block modified to receive the access plug. The access plug preferably includes a front flange, a threaded body, and a rear tapered end. An o-ring groove is formed adjacent the front flange to retain the sealing o-ring. An internal thread is preferably formed in the modified end block to threadably receive the access plug. An opening is formed through the length of the access plug which is sized to receive the sensing rod. The access plug is unthreaded to allow the sensing rod to be removed. A nut removal tool inserted through the internal threads of the modified end block to unscrew a rod nut. Once the rod nut has been unscrewed, the sensing rod may be removed.

Abstract: A knife has a blade-carrying blade slide and a separate actuator slide, both urged by springs into rear positions. A transversely displaceable coupling member on one of the slides is engageable with the other of the slides for coupling the blade slide with the actuator slide for movement of the blade slide from its retracted position into its intermediate position on displacement of the actuator slide from its rear end position into its front end position and for decoupling the slides from each other and shifting transversely out of a path of the other slide on movement of the blade slide from its intermediate position into its extended position. Cam formations on the slides displace the blade slide into the extended position on exertion of a transverse force against the blade edge in the intermediate position of the blade.
