  • Patent number: 6625947
Abstract: A method and system for installing an insulated concrete wall includes insulation panels placed in an upright manner. Generally T-shaped wall studs are placed next to the insulation panels such that the front section of the wall stud is on the outside of the insulation panels and an anchoring section of the wall stud extends beyond the insulation panels into the gap into which concrete will later be poured. Concrete pouring forms are placed so as to render the gap into which concrete will be poured a desired thickness. The wall stud may also include slots for receiving cross-ties that secure the concrete pouring forms in proper position and retaining nubs that prevent the insulation panels from floating when concrete is poured. Concrete is then poured into the gap, surrounding the anchoring section the T-shaped wall stud.

  • Patent number: 6625981
Abstract: There is disclosed a pneumatic booster having a vacuum chamber connected to an intake pipe of an engine. An air outlet of an ejector is connected to the intake pipe through a vacuum control valve, and an air inlet of the ejector is connected to an air cleaner. A vacuum pick-up port of the ejector is connected to the vacuum chamber of a booster body. The vacuum control valve comprises a control chamber and a control piston, and the negative pressure in the booster is introduced into the control chamber and acts on the control piston. When the negative pressure in the booster is insufficient, the control piston acts to open the control valve and a negative pressure is supplied from the ejector to the vacuum chamber. When the negative pressure in the booster is sufficiently high, the control piston acts to close the control valve and stops the operation of the ejector, thus reducing an effect of the ejector with respect to an air/fuel ratio of the engine.

Abstract: An electrically controlled hydraulic actuating system includes a servocontrol including a cylinder, a piston dividing the cylinder into two chambers each provided with a hydraulic connection port, a control valve connected to a hydraulic circuit. A two-way hydraulic pump is driven in rotation by an electric motor driven by power electronics. A switching device allows the connection ports of the chambers to be connected either to the control valve or the pump. The switching device connects the hydraulic connection ports both to the control valve and the pump, so as to allow the servocontrol to be supplied the sum of the hydraulic power delivered by the hydraulic circuit and the hydraulic power generated by the pump actuated by the electric motor.

  • Patent number: 6625985
Abstract: A fresh air amount of an engine (1) is controlled by a variable nozzle (53) of a turbocharger (50). A controller (41) calculates an open loop control value of a drive signal of a variable nozzle (53) based on the running state of the engine (1). A target intake fresh air amount of the engine (1) is calculated based on the running state, and a processing value obtained by smoothing the target intake fresh air amount value is calculated (S132). A feedback control value of the drive signal is calculated so that a real intake fresh air amount coincides with the processing value (S367). The variable nozzle (53) is controlled based on the open loop value and feedback control value. By using the processing value as the target value of the feedback control, unstable factors in feedback control resulting from the time delay from operation of the variable nozzle (53) to change of the intake fresh air amount aspirated by the engine (1), are eliminated.

Abstract: An engine-turbocharger unit for a vehicle, in particular an industrial vehicle, having an internal combustion engine; a decompression brake device; and a turbocharger in turn having a variable-geometry turbine driven by the exhaust gas from the engine, and a compressor driven by the turbine and connected at the outlet to an intake manifold of the engine; the unit also has a throttling device located on the outlet side of the turbine and settable between a fully-open attitude and a closed attitude; the variable-geometry turbine and the throttling device are jointly controlled, thereby allowing independent control of the exhaust manifold pressure of the combustion engine and of the expansion ratio of the turbine.

  • Patent number: 6625987
Abstract: A control strategy for a gas turbine engine which exchanges future lifetime of the engine for present thrust. Gas turbine engines, such as those used in aircraft, sometimes incur damage, as when they ingest birds, or are struck with ballistic objects fired by an enemy. The invention detects the damage, and invokes a control strategy wherein the engine is operated in a more harsh manner, thereby sacrificing a significant part of the remaining lifetime of the engine, in order to obtain thrust currently.

  • Patent number: 6625988
Abstract: A premix burner arrangement with catalytic combustion provides a fuel/air mixture to a combustion chamber of a gas turbine arrangement. The premix burner arrangement includes a premix burner, at least one fuel addition unit, and air inlet openings arranged in such a way that at least one of gaseous and liquid fuel can be mixed with combustion inlet air inside the premix burner to form a fuel/air mixture. The fuel/air mixture exits from the premix burner downstream in the direction towards a combustion chamber positioned after the premix burner arrangement and can be ignited inside the combustion chamber. A catalyzer unit is provided before the entrance of the fuel/air mixture into the combustion chamber. Part of the fuel/air mixture can be introduced into and passed through the catalyzer unit before the catalyzed part of the fuel/air mixture flows together with the remaining portion of the fuel/air mixture into the combustion chamber.

  • Patent number: 6625992
Abstract: A cryogenic cooling system is configured to control the flow of a heat transfer fluid through a remote thermal load, such as a superconducting magnet or rotor. The cryogenic cooling system includes a refrigerator including a cryogenically cooled surface and a cryogenic fluid transport device disposed for circulating a heat transfer fluid between the cryogenically cooled surface and the remote thermal load. The cryogenic fluid transport device advantageously serves as device for providing the necessary mechanical force necessary to move the heat transfer fluid from the cryogenically cooled surface (e.g., end of a cryocooler) to the remote thermal load. Thus, unlike conventional cooling arrangements the heat transfer fluid does not require a phase change.

  • Patent number: 6625994
Abstract: If a refrigerant leaks from an interior heat exchanger, an outside air mode is switched ON, and a first bypass channel is opened to supply air, not having passed through the interior heat exchanger, to a passenger compartment through a defroster opening portion, while also supplying air, having passed through the internal heat exchanger, to the passenger compartment through a foot opening portion. Consequently, air having passed through the first bypass channel and thereby containing a considerable quantity of outside air free from the leaked refrigerant is supplied to the upper side of the passenger compartment, while air having passed through the interior heat exchanger and thereby containing the leaked refrigerant is supplied to the lower side of the passenger compartment, which makes it possible to prevent driver inhalation of the refrigerant.
