A target intake fresh air amount of the engine (1) is calculated based on the running state, and a processing value obtained by smoothing the target intake fresh air amount value is calculated (S132). A feedback control value of the drive signal is calculated so that a real intake fresh air amount coincides with the processing value (S367). The variable nozzle (53) is controlled based on the open loop value and feedback control value. By using the processing value as the target value of the feedback control, unstable factors in feedback control resulting from the time delay from operation of the variable nozzle (53) to change of the intake fresh air amount aspirated by the engine (1), are eliminated.Type: GrantFiled: February 20, 2002Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Nissan Motor Co., Ltd.Inventor: Takashi Shirakawa

Patent number: 6625987Abstract: A control strategy for a gas turbine engine which exchanges future lifetime of the engine for present thrust. Gas turbine engines, such as those used in aircraft, sometimes incur damage, as when they ingest birds, or are struck with ballistic objects fired by an enemy. The invention detects the damage, and invokes a control strategy wherein the engine is operated in a more harsh manner, thereby sacrificing a significant part of the remaining lifetime of the engine, in order to obtain thrust currently.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2001Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: General Electric Co.Inventors: Alan David Pisano, James Patrick Conaty, Matthew William Wiseman, Sabrina Anne Sequeira

Patent number: 6625992Abstract: A cryogenic cooling system is configured to control the flow of a heat transfer fluid through a remote thermal load, such as a superconducting magnet or rotor. The cryogenic cooling system includes a refrigerator including a cryogenically cooled surface and a cryogenic fluid transport device disposed for circulating a heat transfer fluid between the cryogenically cooled surface and the remote thermal load. The cryogenic fluid transport device advantageously serves as device for providing the necessary mechanical force necessary to move the heat transfer fluid from the cryogenically cooled surface (e.g., end of a cryocooler) to the remote thermal load. Thus, unlike conventional cooling arrangements the heat transfer fluid does not require a phase change.Type: GrantFiled: January 29, 2002Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: American Superconductor CorporationInventors: James F. Patent number: 6625994Abstract: If a refrigerant leaks from an interior heat exchanger, an outside air mode is switched ON, and a first bypass channel is opened to supply air, not having passed through the interior heat exchanger, to a passenger compartment through a defroster opening portion, while also supplying air, having passed through the internal heat exchanger, to the passenger compartment through a foot opening portion. Consequently, air having passed through the first bypass channel and thereby containing a considerable quantity of outside air free from the leaked refrigerant is supplied to the upper side of the passenger compartment, while air having passed through the interior heat exchanger and thereby containing the leaked refrigerant is supplied to the lower side of the passenger compartment, which makes it possible to prevent driver inhalation of the refrigerant.Type: GrantFiled: September 26, 2002Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Denso CorporationInventors: Nobuharu Kakehashi, Masami Taguchi, Noriyuki Miyazaki, Shin Nishida, Kouji Matsunaga, Shinya Kumamoto, Masafumi Kurata
