A cross-flow enters the channel through one of the permeable walls and exits through another of the permeable walls. An imposed field is applied in a second direction that is counter to the cross-flow and having an orthogonal component to the first direction. The imposed field causes one or more of the particles to migrate at a first velocity opposite and/or equal to a second velocity of the cross-flow. Abstract: An apparatus is provided for treating wastewater with alkanes such as butane. An oxygen-containing gas may also be introduced into the wastewater. Butane, because of its relatively high solubility, rapidly dissolves in the wastewater, thereby significantly increasing the heterogeneous microbial community and heterotrophic microbial population. This enhanced microbial population may rapidly absorb and mineralize materials in the wastestream. After an initial growth phase, the organic matter available in the wastewater effluent may be rapidly decreased, thereby reducing the amount of BOD, TDS, sludge and other pollutants. In addition, the use of butane reduces noxious odors associated with municipal wastewater sludges and other types of wastewater.

Abstract: A wastewater aeration system that can be pivoted upwardly to expose the treatment basin floor for removal of accumulated grit or other solids. The aeration system includes a blower and a rigid or flexible supply conduit extending into the basin to supply lateral pipes with air. The laterals normally extend horizontally along the basin floor and carry air diffusers which discharge air into the basin. A winch and cable system or other mechanism can be operated to pivot the lateral pipes and diffusers upwardly away from the basin floor so that they are out of the way of equipment used to remove grit from the floor. A vertical track may be provided along a wall of the basin to accommodate raising of the lateral pipes and diffusers out of the basin.

Abstract: A filter cartridge includes a filter element that is adapted to filter fluid. The filter element defines a center post cavity constructed and arranged to receive a center post. The filter element has a first end and a second end. A first end plate is attached to the first end of the filter element. The first end plate defines a first end plate opening. A second end plate is attached to the second end of the filter element. The second end plate defines a second end plate opening. A seal is positioned in the second end plate opening to seal around the center post. A floating seal assembly is received in the first end plate opening to seal around the center post. The floating seal assembly includes a gasket and a gasket retainer. The gasket retainer retains the gasket against the first end plate to seal around the center post.

The retaining ring is located in an internal annular groove in one end cap. The other end of the support core is supported against the opposite end cap, or an additional retaining ring can be provided. When the element is spent, the element is removed from the housing, the retaining ring and central support core are removed, and the element is disposed of in an appropriate manner (preferably by crushing and incineration). The support core is then inserted into a replacement/fresh element and held in place by the ring.
