Abstract: A disc brake assembly includes a brake pad support member including a wall forming an aperture. A pad is at least partially disposed in the aperture. The pad is constructed from a friction material defining a front friction face and a back face opposite the front face. A perimeter is arranged between the faces. An insert is embedded the pad between the faces and preferably extends to the perimeter adjacent to the wall with the insert receiving the lateral load during braking. Preferably, the insert extends to the back face with a terminal portion of the insert flush with the back face for receiving a brake actuation load. The insert includes a protrusion that locates the insert relative to the friction material during the disc pad forming process. The brake actuator is supported by the brake pad support member for exerting a brake actuation load on the back face of the brake pad, preferably on the insert.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and device for the individual or group activation of tipping conveyor elements of a tipping shell sorter, which are provided with an electric motor tipping drive. The electric motor of the tipping drive, is supplied with electrical energy transmitted in a contact-free manner, and is initially brought up to its rated or idle speed (n0), without a load, before the tipping process is initiated. The tipping device has an electronic control device so that when the electric motor, receives a tipping control signal, as the conveyor or elements approach a receiving station, the motor is initially brought up to its rated speed (n0), without activating the tipping device. The tipping device is then automatically activated by the control device. This causes the tipping conveyor element and its horizontal support surface to be tipped to one side so that one or more piece goods will be delivered to a preselected receiving station, while the conveyor system is moving.

Abstract: A lockable switch mechanism for a machine guard includes a switch plunger and locking and switch mechanisms. The plunger moves, upon insertion of an actuator, between two positions to actuate the switch mechanism and is locked by the locking mechanism, which has one locking member biased against a surface of the plunger and another locking member that is displaceable between locked and released positions. The plunger has an annular shoulder that displaces the first locking member when the plunger is moved. The second locking member prevents displacement of the first locking member by the plunger to thereby prevent movement of the plunger. Thus removal of the actuator (and for example opening of an associated machine guard door) is prevented unless the second locking member has been moved to the unlocked position by for example a solenoid which is energised when the guarded machine is in a safe condition.

Abstract: A heat treatable coated article includes an oxidation graded layer designed so as to include an at least partially oxided anti-migration or barrier layer(s) portion provided between a solar management layer portion (e.g., NiCr layer portion) and a dielectric layer (e.g., silicon nitride). In certain example embodiments, the anti-migration or barrier layer(s) portion may include a metal oxide, and function(s) to prevent element(s) from migrating between the solar management layer and the dielectric layer upon heat treatment (HT) of the coated article. As a result, the coated article has improved color stability (and thus a lower &Dgr;E* value) upon HT. In certain example embodiments, a single target may be used to sputter the graded layer including the anti-migration layer portions and the more metallic central portion. Coated articles herein may be used in the context of insulating glass (IG) window units, other architectural windows, vehicle windows, or the like.

Abstract: The invention relates to a gas bearing of a rapidly rotating shaft, whose end supports a tool, in particular to a gas bearing of a rapidly rotating shaft, whose end supports a polygon mirror (27) for a spindle of an optical application. To provide radial support along the shaft (3), gas bearings are arranged in a housing (5), whereby a first gas bearing (9) and a third gas bearing (8) are positioned concentrically in relation to one another and a second gas bearing (2), which is located midway between the first gas bearing (9) and the third gas bearing (8), is mounted in an eccentrically offset manner to the first gas bearing (9) and the third gas bearing (8). The invention is also provided with an adjusting device (1) for increasing the eccentric offset of the second gas bearing (2) as the rotational speed of the shaft (3) increases.

Abstract: An apparatus subjects water to waves from an RF plasma. This allows continuous production of “activated water” characterized by cluster sizes below about 4 molecules per cluster, water having pH below 4 or above 10, or water having ORP of less than −350 mV or more than +800 mV. The basic frequency of the plasma is preferably between 0.44 MHz and 40.68 MHz, and the plasma is preferably modulated at a frequency between 10 kHz and 34 kHz. Flow rates typically range from 20 l/hr to about 2000 l/hr. Activated water can be used for many purposes, including antimicrobial cleaning of worktable, floor, wall, knife, transport and other surfaces, for example, in meat processing facilities and hospitals.

Abstract: An automatable measuring, cleaning and calibrating device for pH-electrodes or electrodes for measuring redox potentials, specifically in process engineering, having an electrode armature which keeps the measuring electrode in an operating position or in a maintenance position, whereby the electrode is retained in the maintenance position in a rinsing chamber in which a cleaning and calibration procedure can be performed. The device has a pump device to supply cleaning fluid and calibration solutions to the rinsing chamber over a delivery line connecting the pump device and the rinsing chamber. In order to configure the device more compactly, the pump device includes several feeds on its intake side, and a device is furnished to selectively activate a particular feed, and the media (cleaning fluid, calibration solution, etc.) brought selectively over the particular feeds to the pump device reach the rinsing chamber over the common delivery line.
