  • Patent number: 6742991
Abstract: A turbine blade applicable to a gas turbine has a turbine blade body having film cooling holes, the interior space of which is partitioned into two cavities by a rib. Hollow inserts each having impingement holes are respectively arranged in the cavities to form cooling spaces therebetween. Communication is ensured between the cavities by bypass hole and slits, so that the impingement cooling is interrupted with respect to the prescribed side having a good heat transmission in the turbine blade body. A partition wall is further arranged between the rib and the insert arranged in the trailing-edge side, thus providing a separation between the cooling spaces respectively arranged in the rear side and front side. Thus, it is possible to noticeably reduce the amount of cooling air in the turbine blade body; and it is possible to reduce temperature differences entirely over the turbine blade body as small as possible.

  • Patent number: 6742996
Abstract: A scroll-type compressor for realizing the operating condition of complete 0% capacity without using an electromagnetic clutch. In order to minimize the power loss, a compliance crankshaft mechanism for allowing the orbiting radius of the movable scroll member to change steplessly to zero is interposed between a shaft and a scroll member. A guide hole having an inclined surface such as a two-step conical surface is formed at the end plate of the movable scroll member. A plunger adapted to engage by advancing toward and retracting from the guide hole is supported on a housing. When the plunger is advanced into the guide hole under the control of a control operation device including a control pressure chamber and a control valve, the movable scroll member moves radially, so that the amount of eccentricity and the orbiting radius thereof are reduced to achieve the 0% capacity.

  • Patent number: 6743020
Abstract: A thin, skin-toned pocketed card having two layers of material. The foreground layer of this card is made of a thin transparent material that is printed with images of facial features. To print these images, color is applied to the material starting at the boundary of the image and extending out onto the surrounding material. The transparent portion, not the colored portion of the material, hence defines these images. The background layer of material is uniformly colored to match the foreground layer. When the foreground layer is positioned over the background layer the images of facial features become indistinguishable from the background. The layers are then joined to each other so that open pockets are formed between their adjacent surfaces, and so that one set of facial features is allocated to each pocket. Uniformly sized strips of colored media representing cosmetic colors are inserted into the open pockets.

Abstract: A system and method of processing responses to questions presented to an individual. Testing seeks to define what primitive components of the educational program that the individual doesn't understand. Using multiple-choice questions where incorrect answers are derived from failing to process primitives to the problem correctly, the system ensures that every answer to every question defines the problem area for the individual by weighting those primitives against a base threshold when answered incorrectly. Once the threshold has been passed, the system adapts to test the primitive that has failed to be understood. Questions are generated that test to see if the individual understands the theory and concepts associated to the initial primitives' primitive components. The test is complete when there are no further primitives to be examined.

  • Patent number: 6743026
Abstract: The effect upon reliability of thickness variation in a printed wiring board at the LGA compression connection site of an electronic module is reduced. Plated through holes formed in a printed wiring board at the mounting site of an electronic module typically result in upper and lower opposing surface depressions in the board at this mounting site. When compressional force is applied for compressional connection of the module to the printed wiring board through an interposer, the board deforms downwardly reducing the lower depression and increasing the upper depression beyond the compliance of the interposer. Filler material, such as, a bonding material is employed to fill the lower depression eliminating the downward deformation of the printed wiring board into the lower depression. A quantity of filler material sufficient to deform the printed wiring board upwardly under pressure into the upper depression thereby reducing or eliminating same may also be used.

  • Patent number: 6743029
Abstract: The invention here disclosed is a back wire ground clamp for a wiring device such as a switch or receptacle having a ground strap which supports an outwardly projecting ground lug having a front edge and adapted to receive a ground connection. The ground lug is coupled to a clamp plate by means of a screw which passes through a clearance opening in the clamp plate and is threaded into a receiving opening in the ground lug. The clamp plate supports a blocking tab which extends downward below the front edge of the ground lug and extends side ways for a distance which is less than the length of the front edge of the ground lug. The blocking tab prevents the clamp plate from rotating relative to the ground lug as the screw is tightened and defines an opening between the clamp plate and the ground lug along the front edge of the ground lug into which a single ground wire can be inserted.

  • Patent number: 6743040
Abstract: A connector has a female housing (20) with a lock arm (35) that moves onto a lock (15) 0f a male housing (10). A slider (50) on the female housing (20) has pushable arms (52) that are pushed back by the male housing (10). This slider (50) is moved back and compresses springs (S). The lock arm (35) returns to engage the lock (15) when the housings (10, 20) are connected properly, and the pushable arms (52) are displaced by push canceling portions (38) to cancel the pushed state of the pushable arms (52). Thus, the springs (S) are released to move the slider (50) forward to an initial mount position. The slider (50) is pulled back to separate the housings (10, 20). Thus, an unlock pushable portion (37) of the lock arm (35) is pushed by the slider (50) to disengage the lock arm (35) from the lock (15).
