  • Patent number: 6782742
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for synthetically calculating redundant attitude and redundant heading by means of existing data in an aircraft. In one embodiment the heading of the aircraft is available and in another embodiment the heading is calculated from a magnetic heading sensor. • Patent number: 6782744
Abstract: A power transistor 1 is mounted on a metallic power supply terminal 40 within an intake pipe 20, individually and separately from an electronic circuit board 7 on which other electronic circuit element are mounted. This power supply terminal 40 acts as a terminal for electric power input and its one portion is exposed within the gas path of the intake pipe 20. The heat-generation of the power transistor 1 is effectively heat-generated by the metallic terminal 40 without giving a remarkable effect to the other circuit elements. With this, it is possible to reduce any heat effect to the other electronic circuit components due to the self heat-generation of the power transistor 1 without the additional number of parts and to effectuate the gas flow rate measuring apparatus of which measuring accuracy and reliability are high.

  • Patent number: 6782746
Abstract: A cast-in-place and lithographically shaped mobile, monolithic polymer element for fluid flow control in microfluidic devices and method of manufacture. Microfluid flow control devices, or microvalves that provide for control of fluid or ionic current flow can be made incorporating a cast-in-place, mobile monolithic polymer element, disposed within a microchannel, and driven by either fluid or gas pressure against a retaining or sealing surface. The polymer elements are made by the application of lithographic methods to monomer mixtures formulated in such a way that the polymer will not bond to microchannel walls. The polymer elements can seal against pressures greater than 5000 psi, and have a response time on the order of milliseconds. By the use of energetic radiation it is possible to depolymerize selected regions of the polymer element to form shapes that cannot be produced by conventional lithographic patterning and would be impossible to machine.

  • Patent number: 6782748
Abstract: For use in a MEMS device having a suspended proof mass, a method and apparatus for securing the MEMS device during a period of high acceleration. The method may include applying a DC voltage between the proof mass and a non-suspended structure of the device. The non-suspended structure may be mounted on a substrate, and the substrate or the non-suspended structure may be electrically isolated from the proof mass by an insulating layer or by one or more islands. Applying the DC voltage creates an electrostatic force that moves the proof mass toward (or holds the proof mass near) the substrate. Movement of the proof mass may be limited by mechanical contact between the proof mass and the insulating layer, the one or more islands, or by a cage mounted on the substrate during the period of high acceleration.

  • Patent number: 6782753
Abstract: A device and procedure for checking the health of a pressure transducer in situ is provided. The procedure includes measuring a fixed change in pressure above ambient pressure and a fixed change in pressure below ambient pressure. This is done by first sealing an enclosed volume around the transducer with a valve. A piston inside the sealed volume is then driven forward, compressing the enclosed gas, thereby increasing the pressure. A fixed pressure below ambient pressure is obtained by opening the valve, driving the piston forward, sealing the valve, and then retracting the piston. The output of the pressure transducer is recorded for both the overpressuring and the underpressuring. By comparing this data with data taken during a preoperative calibration, the health of the transducer is determined from the linearity, the hysteresis, and the repeatability of its output. The further addition of a thermometer allows constant offset error in the transducer output to be determined.

  • Patent number: 6782759
Abstract: An anti-entrapment system for preventing an object from being entrapped by a translating device includes a capacitance sensor positioned adjacent to the translating device. The sensor has first and second flexible conductors separated by a separation distance. The conductors have a capacitance dependent on the separation distance. The sensor has a compressible dielectric element interposed between the conductors. The capacitance of the conductors changes in response to the separation distance changing as a result of the dielectric element compressing in response to a first object touching the sensor. The capacitance of the conductors changes in response to a second conductive object coming into proximity with at least one conductors. • Patent number: 6782760
Abstract: A method for the finishing treatment of work pieces, uses a processing device including a tool spindle for a processing tool and a numerically controlled (NC) feeding device. The force of the contact pressure applied to the work piece on the side of the work piece is measured and the measured force values are supplied to the numerical control (NC), which determines and fixes the feed rate at which the processing tool is advanced against the work piece. The finishing treatment is carried out in a force-controlled operating mode, in which the feed rate is controlled depending on the force of the contact pressure acting on the processing tool. A processing device is employed whose tool spindle is movably supported in the direction of the feeding movement on leaf springs on the feeding device. The processing device includes a force-measuring device effective between the tool spindle and the feeding device and operating substantially free of deformation.

The joint includes a cylindrical first transmission member mounted on the output shaft, a cylindrical second transmission member to which the worm shaft is mounted, and a cylindrical elastic body interposed between the first and second transmission members. The joint may further include a torque limiter including a spring which is interposed between an end surface of the second transmission member and a spring seat formed at an end surface of a third transmission member in opposed relation with the end surface of the second transmission member for inhibiting relative rotation between the second and third transmission members.

Abstract: The object of the invention is to provide a rack shaft having two rack teeth groups and hollowed throughout the whole body, to lightweightize the shaft and to reduce the cost. The two rack teeth groups are located longitudinally apart from each other and have phase difference related to an angle around the axis of the shaft. After the two rack teeth groups are formed simultaneously or sequentially by die forming on the flat bottoms of the workpiece beforehand gutter-shaped, the legs of the gutter-shaped workpiece are bent to butt to each other and, thereby, a tubular body of the shaft is given to the workpiece. The centers of the material are offset beforehand corresponding to the phase difference.

Abstract: A punch tool including a punch driver and a punch element. The punch element can include a punch secured to a punch holder, with the punch holder and punch slidably disposed within a punch guide. The effective length of the punch tool can be increased by rotating the punch driver about threads relative to the punch element. The punch tool includes a latch mechanism for preventing rotation of the punch driver relative to the punch element when the latch is in a locked position, but allowing such rotation when the latch is in an unlocked position, thereby controlling unwanted free rotation of the punch driver relative to the remainder of the punch tool. During punching operation, the punch driver, punch holder, and punch are forced slidably relative to the outer punch guide. When a length adjustment is desired, the punch driver can be rotated relative to the punch, punch holder, and punch guide, which typically do not rotate. A locking disk can be rotatably secured to the punch driver.
