  • Patent number: 6782839
Abstract: A hydrofoil (1) comprises a bottom (23) formed with two front and rear steps (3 and 4), and a strut (31) supporting a submerged hydrofoil (21) arranged between the two steps (3 and 4). The strut (31) can be switched between a storage state and a navigation state by its forward-and-backward rotation. A threshold value of dynamic lift (F) obtained by the hydrofoil (21) can be established arbitrarily, and the dynamic lift can be held to the set value by keeping the strut (31) in the navigation state correspondingly to the established threshold value of hydrofoil-dynamic-lift, thereby enabling the dynamic lift to be held at the established value during navigation. Moreover, based on draft (WL) or trim angle (TR) during the boat-berthing, a set value of hydrofoil-dynamic-lift and a set value of tilt angle of a propulsor (22) or a flap (22a) attached to the rear of hull can be accommodated.

  • Patent number: 6782842
Abstract: A boat-lift system adapted to move a smaller boat relative to a larger boat. The boat-lift system comprises a structural support, a lift structure, a pivot system, and an actuator assembly. The structural support is adapted to be rigidly connected to a transom of the larger boat. The lift structure defines a second pivot portion, an actuator portion, an extension portion, and first and second boat-engaging portions. The pivot system connects the first and second pivot portions to allow rotation of the lift structure between first and second lift positions relative to the structural support. Actuation of the actuator assembly causes the lift structure to move between the first and second lift positions. When the smaller boat is in a docking position adjacent to the lift structure, operation of the actuator assembly moves the lift structure to lift the smaller boat from the docking position to a first storage position.

  • Patent number: 6782852
Abstract: A hydraulic actuator operates either an intake or an exhaust valve for an engine cylinder. A driver piston is adapted to be operably connected to open and close the engine cylinder valve. An electrically driven operator produces movement of a valve spool which controls flow of fluid to and from the driver piston. A feedback mechanism is coupled to the valve spool and responds to movement of the driver piston by moving the valve spool into a position at which fluid flows neither to nor from the driver piston. The feedback mechanism ensures that the stroke of the hydraulic actuator is proportional to the magnitude of the electric current applied to the operator regardless of variation of the fluid pressure applied to the driver piston.

  • Patent number: 6782855
Abstract: An engine valve train has oil flow to valve actuating components cut off or restricted when the valves are closed, to reduce parasitic losses. In an exemplary embodiment, a pushrod has a pivotable connection with a valve actuating rocker arm through which internal oil passages conduct oil for lubricating the rocker arm. The passages are aligned during valve actuation but become misaligned when the valve is closed. Misalignment of the passages at the sliding connection reduces the amount of oil flow through the connection to improve engine efficiency. When applied to cylinder deactivation engines, oil flow to rocker arms of deactivated valves is completely cut off, or reduced, further reducing parasitic losses.

  • Patent number: 6782861
Abstract: An internal combustion engine having a centrifugally-responsive vacuum release mechanism that relieves a vacuum within a combustion chamber during the expansion stroke of an engine at engine starting speeds. The vacuum release mechanism is disposed adjacent the cam and engages a cam follower at engine starting speeds to unseat an engine valve while an engine piston is moving toward a crankcase and away from the combustion chamber. When the engine rotation speed reaches a desired kick-out speed, the centrifugal force transitions the vacuum release mechanism from an engaged position to a disengaged position. The vacuum release mechanism engages the cam follower to separate the cam follower from the cam when the vacuum release mechanism is in the engaged position. When the vacuum release mechanism is in the disengaged position during normal operating speeds, the cam follower is permitted to contact the cam throughout the entire rotation of the cam.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for controlling a charger (2000, 1000) which make possible a reduction of the load on the on-board electrical system especially during run-up of the charger (2000, 1000). A drive signal is formed which drives the charger (2000, 10000 1000). In dependence upon a first operating state of the engine (1005) which directly precedes an increase of the driver command torque, the drive signal is so formed that the charger (2000, 1000) increases its rpm already during this first operating state.

  • Patent number: 6782878
Abstract: A PVC assembly includes a tubular fitting which significantly reduces the possibility of vapors freezing so as to block the PCV passage entry into a manifold. The fitting may be a material, such as nylon, with low heat conductivity as compared to a metal fitting and which is thermally isolated by an air gap from the PCV inlet opening of an aluminum metal manifold to minimize heat loss to the manifold walls. A mounting portion of the fitting includes a primary seal and a secondary seal/retainer that provides backup sealing and also acts as a snap-in retainer that releasably holds the fitting in the manifold PCV inlet opening without further retaining means. A simplified inlet fitting with both retaining and heat conserving features is thereby provided.

Abstract: A dry and wet cutting tile saw includes a base seat in which is a disk saw blade actuated by a motor and protected by a lateral and an upper blade guards, a water sink integrated with the base seat positioned under the disk saw blade and a working station made of metallic material pivotally and adjustably secured to the top of the base seat. The working station has a pair of sliding grooves of stepped section in upper surface for selectively and slidably disposing a circle. An inverse U-shaped ruler is also disposed on the top of the working station. It is characterized that a vacuum cleaner connects to the lateral blade guard able to suck all the dirts and chips from a working piece. So that this tile saw can either conduct a dry cutting or a wet cutting of a tile without dirt contaminating the fresh air.

  • Patent number: 6782884
Abstract: A method and system for locating faulty components in a cable modem network configured within a hybrid fiber-coaxial cable television system by tabulating modem performance data are described. A method of isolating problematic components in a cable modem network includes determining whether a cable modem transmitted a polling message to a central destination during the modem's allotted time interval. A media access control layer, located within a cable modem termination system (CMTS), keeps a miss count for the cable modem that reflects the number of times the cable modem does not transmit a polling message to the CMTS during its allotted time. The media access control layer determines whether the cable modem is changing states. This data and the miss count are tabulated in a form that can be analyzed by a correlation module to determine characteristics of the cable television plant.
