Abstract: This invention automates a portion of the existing process by applying computerized comparative assessment program to the image presented on the operator's viewing screen. This is accomplished by creating a computerized image database of all known weapons, dangerous articles, and other prohibited items. At the same time the scanned container's contents data is converted to the image presented on the operator's viewing screen, the same data is computer compared to the weapons database. Just as the human mentally compares learned weapons database against what he or she sees on the monitor, the computer accomplishes the same process, except much more timely and accurately. When the computer identifies data from the scanned image that correlates to it's prohibited items database, it alerts the security operator by any number of common means and highlights the image on the security operator's monitor.

Two adjacent modules (2) interengage and are articulated on one another by an articulation rod (3). The toothed drive wheels (4) have teeth (41, 42) which, during driving of the conveying belt (1), are positioned against the transverse ribs (24).
Abstract: A punch-through diode transient suppression device has a base region of varying doping concentration to improve leakage and clamping characteristics. The punch-through diode includes a first region comprising an n+ region, a second region comprising a p− region abutting the first region, a third region comprising a p+ region abutting the second region, and a fourth region comprising an n+ region abutting the third region. The peak dopant concentration of the n+ layers should be about 1.5E18 cm−3, the peak dopant concentration of the p+ layer should be between about 1 to about 5 times the peak concentration of the n+ layer, and the dopant concentration of the p− layer should be between about 0.5E14 cm−3 and about 1.OE17 cm−3. The junction depth of the fourth (n+) region should be greater than about 0.3 &mgr;m. The thickness of the third (p+) region should be between about 0.3 &mgr;m and about 2.

Abstract: In a recording and reproducing apparatus for a disc-shaped recording medium, and a defect substitution method for a disc-shaped recording medium, whether reproduction of recorded data is good is determined by sector unit and not by product code unit, defective sector discrimination is performed by sector unit, and only sectors determined defective are alternatively recorded, when using a recording format in which data that is error detection and correction coded with a product code is segmented and recorded to a plurality of sectors.

Abstract: A router table fence having three nesting aluminum extrusions or spars, two of which lie under a longer third spar. By positioning the inner ends of the two lower spars adjacent to a router cutter protruding through a router table, it is possible to provide a fence, particularly when the lower spars are used with wood facings or sub-fences, that can be adjusted to closely surround the cutter. Lateral movement of the fence assembly adjusts the amount of cutter that contacts a workpiece manipulated past the cutter while contacting the fence. The cross sectional shapes of the spars are identical and are generally square, with structure that permits the upper, longer spar to rest on top of, and be attached in a manner permitting it to slide against, the lower two spars. T-shaped slots in each face of the spars accept fasteners that connect the spars together and also accept fasteners for a variety of accessories, such as hold-down devices and shields.

Abstract: A new and improved method for growing a p-type nitride III-V compound semiconductor is provided which can produce a p-type nitride compound semiconductors having a high carrier concentration, without the need for annealing to activate impurities after growth. In a preferred embodiment, a p-type nitride compound semiconductor, such as p-type GaN, is grown by metal organic chemical vapor deposition methods using a nitrogen source material which does not release hydrogen during release of nitrogen and the semiconductor is grown in an inactive gas. The nitrogen source materials may be selected from nitrogen compounds that contain hydrogen radicals groups and alkyl radicals groups and/or phenyl radicals groups provided that the total amount of hydrogen radicals groups is less than or equal to the sum total of alkyl radicals groups and phenyl radicals groups present in the nitrogen compound used as the nitrogen source material.
Abstract: An allogenic intervertebral implant for fusing vertebrae is disclosed. The implant is a piece of allogenic bone conforming in size and shape with a portion of an end plate of a vertebra. The implant has a wedge-shaped profile to restore disc height and the natural curvature of the spine. The top and bottom surfaces of the implant have a plurality of teeth to resist expulsion and provide initial stability. The implant according to the present invention provides initial stability need for fusion without stress shielding.

Abstract: A batting pad comprising a body made from a cushioning material and having a ring portion adapted to fit over a batter's thumb and an appendage to cushion the palm area between a batter's thumb and index finger. The appendage has a thickness T at its thickest point located between the first end and the distant end, and the thickness T of the appendage is selected to optimize an angle of a bat in the batter's hand relative to a line parallel to the batter's forearm, the angle being determined by the thickness T of the appendage displacing the bat toward the tip of the batter's index finger and causing the bat to contact the palm of the batter's hand near the batter's little finger.
Abstract: The bib has a neck portion with a neck hole that is large enough to fit comfortably around the wearer's neck. The neck hole has an opening that can either be pulled over the wearer's head by means of an elastic material, or divided into an exposed strip of fabric and a coextensive underlaying strip of fabric. These strips of fabric are releasably fastened together. An expanse of protective material extending from the transverse end of the neck portion prevents food and drink from staining or soiling the wearer's clothing during the course of hand feeding. Beneath the expanse of protective material is a first layer of absorbent material. This first layer overlays a lower, second layer of absorbent material. The first and second absorbent layers offer a face wipe to the user for removing food from the wearer's face.
Abstract: A protective garment, such as a surgical gown, includes areas subjected to tensile stretching forces when worn by a wearer. Such areas may correspond to back shoulder regions of the garment. Elastomeric patches are provided in at least one of the identified areas subjected to the tensile stretching forces, the elastomeric patches being generally surrounded by the remaining garment material.
