  • Patent number: 6799404
Abstract: A wall assembly includes at least two panel elements which are configured for contiguous placement adjacent to one another. Each of the panel elements defines a hollow internal passageway. The panels are configured to permit a contiguous placement whereby the respective passageways of the panels are brought into registration with one another. A connection element is positioned within one of the passageways. The connection element is accessible through a slot defined within the sidewall of the panel wherein the connection element resides. The connection element is slidable whereby it may be displaced partially into the second panel element. The connection element is thereafter actuatable whereby its lateral dimension is decreased to form a pressure fit union with the interior sidewalls of the two passageways. In its spatially decreased configuration, the connection element provides a means of interconnecting the two panel elements together.

  • Patent number: 6799417
Abstract: Heat is extracted from the combustion gas in a rocket engine combustion chamber by diverting portions of the gas through channels in the nozzle wall. The channels are layered between channels of coolant, which in expander cycle rocket engines is uncombusted fuel, to achieve intimate heat exchange between the combustion gas and the fuel. The combustion gas channels are relatively short, returning combustion gas thus cooled to the chamber interior. By drawing combustion gas from the chamber interior into the chamber wall, the cooling process no longer relies on the combustion gas boundary layer for heat transfer as in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 6799419
Abstract: A method for diagnosing an exhaust gas cleaning system of a lambda-controlled internal combustion engine where a catalyst is subjected to a specific oxygen load which is greater than the normal operating load, by increasing the surface covered by the oscillation of a signal of a pre-catalyst lambda probe according to a set value. The exhaust gas cleaning system can be tested by evaluating the oscillation of a signal of a post-catalyst lambda probe. In the event this diagnosis shows a defect in the exhaust gas cleaning system without the area covered by the oscillation of the probe signal of the pre-catalyst lambda probe having had to be increased to or beyond a set value, the pre-catalyst lambda probe is defective. Otherwise, it can be concluded that the catalyst is defective.

  • Patent number: 6799420
Abstract: A temperature sensor is disposed near an HC adsorbent in an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine. After the internal combustion engine is shut off, a deteriorated state of the HC adsorbent is evaluated based on a value of the humidity detected by a humidity sensor. The deteriorated state of the HC adsorbent is evaluated by comparing the detected value of the humidity with a threshold established depending on the temperature state near the HC adsorbent. In evaluating deteriorated state of the HC adsorbent, a change in the output characteristics of the humidity sensor depending on its temperature state is compensated for.

  • Patent number: 6799421
Abstract: A method is described for controlling decontamination of an emission control device. Temperature of the emission control device is maintained at a desired temperature by operating some cylinders of the engine lean and others rich. These lean and rich mixtures react exothermically in the exhaust gas and in the emission control device to generate heat. Efficient contaminant removal is obtained by oscillating the mixture air-fuel ratio about stoichiometry. This oscillation is provided by adjusting the fuel provided to the rich cylinders, or by adjusting the air provided to the lean cylinders, thereby minimizing any torque disturbance corresponding to the oscillations in exhaust air-fuel ratio.

  • Patent number: 6799422
Abstract: A method of controlling emissions from a fixed-speed internal combustion engine includes injecting a controlled flow of air into the exhaust between a first catalyst bed adapted to reduce HC and NOx emissions, and a second catalyst bed adapted to reduce CO emissions. The flow of air is controlled to optimize the level of CO emissions, preferably as a function of engine load or temperature. In a marine engine-generator set, the flow of air is controlled as a function of generator load or temperature of the exhaust mixture entering the second catalyst bed, and seawater is injected into the exhaust stream downstream of the catalysts.

Abstract: A hydraulic circuit comprises a first and a second merging line capable of supplying pressure oil from a third pump for a third circuit to directional control valves in a first and a second circuit, respectively, and a merging valve for selectively communicating or cutting off the first and the second merging line with or from the third pump. The merging valve has a first shift position at which the third pump is connected to the second merging line, and a second shift position at which the third pump is connected to the first and the second merging line. The merging valve is shifted continuously between the shift positions. The hydraulic circuit can efficiently distribute pressure oil supplied from the third pump to the first and/or second circuit as well, and can prevent lowering of the operability of each of actuators connected to the first or second circuit.

Abstract: A high pressure cryogenic fluid dispensing system features a tank containing a cryogenic liquid with a liquid side and a head space there above. A pressure building coil featuring a section of parallel heat exchangers and a section of series heat exchangers receives liquid from the tank through a pressure building regulator valve and a pair of surge check valves. The liquid flashes to gas in the section of parallel heat exchangers and the resulting gas is forced to the section of series heat exchangers where it is pressurized and warmed. The gas may be directed to a warming coil for dispensing and to the head space of the tank to rapidly pressurize it. Gas traveling to the head space flows through an vapor space withdrawal control valve. The vapor space withdrawal control valve and pressure building regulator valve may be automated via a controller that provides pressure building when the tank pressure drops below the system operating pressure.

Abstract: A method for reclamation of atmospheric water uses a water reclamation chamber (1) with water reclamation cells (2) and variable high-performance blowers (3). In this occurs by means of cooling collectors (6) during the nighttime the cooling of a coolant stored in a cooling resorvoir (7), and during the daytime operation by means of solar collectors (8) occurs the heating of a further fluid stored in a heat reservoir, so that the coolant that is cooled during the night for the purpose of water reclamation cools by day and/or night the cooling registers through which air flows. At these cooling registers, the air is dehumidified so that the heat-accumulating fluid by day and/or by night is used for the generation of energy for the operation of the equipment and/or for the extraction of water.
