Abstract: A trimmer for trimming brochures has lower blade holders and upper blade holders for top cutting blades and bottom cutting blades lying opposite them. The trimmer further has a guide rail configuration and tensioners by which the lower blade holders can be locked on the guide rail configuration. Accordingly, the tensioners can be actuated from one and the same side of the trimmer. This has an advantageous effect on the time required for changing over the trimmer from one brochure format to another.

Abstract: An upright keyboard musical instrument has an open/close board attached to the top position of a case, wherein the lower surface of the open/close board is subjected to mirror surface finishing and is supported by a lid prop, which is rotatably arranged in proximity to the top board to rotate about a support axis and is formed in an L-shape to have a plurality of support surfaces, realizing different angles for the open/close board being opened. The mirror surface of the open/close board projects images representing internal members of the case, such as an emblem and actions. By appropriately rotating the lid prop, it is possible to realize a desired angle for the open/close board, thus realizing tone volume control and visually entertaining effects in musical performance.

Abstract: Devices for altering an acoustic property of stringed instruments are described that include a tailpiece adjustment mechanism configured for rotating at least a portion of a tailpiece relative to a central axis of the stringed instrument, and/or for immobilizing at least a portion of a tailpiece such that at least a portion of vibrations of the tailpiece are restrained when the stringed instrument is played, and/or for transmitting at least a portion of vibrations produced in a tailpiece when the stringed instrument is played into a body portion of the stringed instrument. Stringed instruments containing such devices and methods for altering an acoustic property of stringed instruments are also described.

Abstract: A conventional guitar pick is retrofitted with a special adhesion material covering a selected surface region of the pick so as to enhance gripping between thumb and finger for playing and to provide convenient temporary storage, when not in use for playing, by temporary attachment onto a nearby object such as the body of the guitar. The adhesion material, specially structured to utilize suction to grip onto any smooth surface without leaving marks or residue when removed, is adhesively attached to the pick in the form of a tape or film to provide a suction gripping surface formed by special structure ranging, from multiple articulated suction cups integrally molded from rubber-like material in a uniform grid pattern, to foam-like material with a random pattern of suction pores of size ranging down to microscopic.

Abstract: Electronic equipment includes a processing unit which controls light emission from LEDs by referring to music data described in a music file such as a MIDI file. The processing unit controls light emission from the LEDs by detecting the occurrence of sound described in the music file. Light emission from the LEDs may be controlled in accordance with tone data and/or a track number included in the music file. Alternatively, light emission from the LEDs may be controlled in accordance with volume data.

Abstract: The 12-D Gnomon Resonator is a rotating continuum, a chamber, indicating by the geometry of its construct and attending mathematics a specific angle of incidence relevant to the source of power creating its period of rotation. The initial concept from which the device developed considered the gnomon as a single atom rotating within the field of its subtended curvature; i.e., the electromagnetically charged molecule. Upon a deciphering of the glyph given of FIG. 1A it was realized that Earth itself might well describe such a gnomon; which is to say, one of a series of rotating bodies comprising that molecule we recognize as our solar system. The mathematics was already established, it only remained to relate the period of rotation to a specific angle of incidence with the diurnal arc when at maximum resonance. The invention defines that angle of incidence (western horizon in the plane of the sun) as precisely 50.625 degrees.

A content providing apparatus includes a content storage section in which a plurality of pieces of content are grouped and stored. In a state in which content read from the content storage section is provided to the user, when a user input detection device detects a specific input by the user, desired content other than the provided content among the content belonging to the same group as the content being provided belongs or the content belonging to a group differing from the group to which the content being provided belongs is selected from a plurality of pieces of content stored in the content storage section, and the content is provided to the user.

Abstract: In order to enhance the performance of audio presentation of a digital radio, the digital radio presentation is analyzed to extract the parameters of at least one selected instruments. The selected instrument parameters, for example, pitch, intensity, etc., are then reformatted in the form of control signals. The control signals are applied to an automatic (electrically driven) version of the selected instrument. The performance of the selected automatic instrument is played in synchronism with the audio presentation. The present of an actual instrument playing in synchronism with the audio presentation from the speakers driven by the digital radio provides an augmented listening experience.

Abstract: A method for music analysis. The method includes the steps of acquiring a music soundtrack, re-sampling an audio stream of the music soundtrack so that the re-sampled audio stream is composed of blocks, applying FFT to each block, deriving a vector from each transformed block, wherein the vector components are energy summations of the block within different sub-bands, applying auto-correlation to each sequence composed of the vector components of all the blocks in the same sub-band using different tempo values, wherein, for each sequence, a largest correlation result is identified as a confidence value and the tempo value generating the largest correlation result is identified as an estimated tempo, and comparing the confidence values of all the sequences to identify the estimated tempo having the largest confidence value as a final estimated tempo.

Abstract: Methods and systems for automatically creating a movie of computer selected video scenes accompanied by music are disclosed. Methods or systems consistent with the invention may synchronize the video scene changes with the onsets of beats in the music. Methods or systems consistent with the invention may also offer a user of the computer program product a choice of video styles by which the movie may be characterized when viewed by the user.

Abstract: A signal processing apparatus and method is disclosed by which a feature value of an audio signal such as the tempo can be detected with a high degree of accuracy. A level calculation section produces a level signal representative of a transition of the level of an audio signal. A frequency analysis section frequency analyzes the level signal. A feature value extraction section determines a tempo, a speed feeling and a tempo fluctuation of the audio signal based on a result of the frequency analysis of the level signal. The invention can be applied to an apparatus which determines, for example, a tempo from an audio signal.

Abstract: A hybrid saxophone is a combination of an acoustic saxophone and an electronic system, and the electronic system includes key sensors for monitoring the keys and a tonguing sensor for detecting the position of the tongue together with a breath sensor and a lip sensor, and the pieces of playing data are brought to an electronic tone generator for producing electric tones; the mouthpiece of the acoustic saxophone is replaced with another mouthpiece, which does not supply the breath to the reed, and a rotary type air-flow regulator is provided in the mouthpiece so that the player feels the blowing same as that in the acoustic saxophone.

Abstract: A countermeasure device for negating a guidance seeking system is provided. The countermeasure device includes a membrane defining an internal chamber, a gas disposed in the chamber, and an illuminating device. The illuminating device includes a light source producing energy sufficient to provide a decoy signature detectable by the guidance seeking system and a power supply coupled to the light source. In one embodiment the light source is a light emitting diode. In another embodiment, the light source is a laser diode.

Abstract: The technical field of the invention is that of motor vehicle safety involving devices for cutting a structure such as, for example, an instrument panel, so as to actuate a safety device. The object of the present invention relates more specifically to a device (1) for cutting a structure in a motor vehicle comprising a linear pyrotechnic charge (5) placed inside a flattened deformable tube (6), combustion of the said charge (5) bringing about deformation of the tube (6) which increases its cross section, the said deformation causing the structure (3) to break. The main characteristic of this device is that the combustion rate of the pyrotechnic charge (5) is less than 3000 m/s.

Abstract: A highly reliable fuse for explosives and armaments is achieved by employing a micro mechanical device that operates to disrupt a relatively low impedance bypass circuit coupled in parallel with a relatively high impedance trigger mechanism. The removal of the electrical bypassing is performed as a result of the movement of the micro mechanical device to enable detonation under prescribed conditions. The electrical bypassing is removed by having at least one low impedance electrical bridge that is part of the bypass circuit break when the micro mechanical device is subjected to prescribed trigger activation forces, which are typically large forces, such as are generated during launch or impact. The micro mechanical device may be a micro-electrical mechanical system (MEMS) device and the bridge is at least one spring that is part of the MEMS device and also part of the bypass circuit.

Abstract: An arrangement for a weapon including a countermass for reducing the pressure around the weapon. The countermass is enclosed in a countermass container with an openable cover provided with break indications. The arrangement brings about a symmetrical opening operation with favorable recoil in a better way than in previous constructions. This is achieved by the introduction of a guiding folding support arranged adjacent to the openable cover on the inside of the cover relative to the countermass container.

Abstract: An automatic primer feed mechanism for use with a carrier assembly of a large caliber artillery piece, which includes mechanical assemblies for automatic primer loading after full breech closure and allows for spent primer cartridges to be extracted before opening of the breech to maximize safety, thereby allowing the gun crew to perform artillery piece misfire, sticker and check fire operations before the breech is opened. The mechanism includes a body member that mounts the automatic feed mechanism to the carrier of the artillery piece so as to interface with the carrier to position the mechanism on one side of the breech of the artillery piece. The body member includes a cam surface member, which provides a path for movement of an injection arm member. The tray member has guide rails for engagement with the body, which slides in relation thereto. A magazine containing a plurality of primer cartridges, which inserts in a receiver channel located in the tray member.

Abstract: A firearm cartridge holder has a cartridge clip and a mounting bracket attached to the cartridge clip. The mounting bracket is attached adjacent to, but above, the barrel of a firearm in close proximity to the firearm breech. The cartridge clip holds a cartridge substantially parallel to the barrel of the firearm.

Abstract: A ceramic antiballistic layer which can be produced as a large-area, optionally curved component is able to withstand a multi-hit attack from hits spaced apart by a short distance at the target. The ceramic antiballistic layer has a continuous surface on a side which faces the attack, whereas a surface which faces away from the attack has a segmented structure. The segmented structure starts from the surface and extends into the interior of the protective layer but does not penetrate all the way through the layer as far as the opposite surface, which faces the attack. Processes for producing such a layer and a protective device having the layer are also provided.

Abstract: An integral ballistic shield formed of ballistic material is provided with a central portion and side portions to provide front and partial side ballistic protection. A support extends from the backside of the shield adjacent a truncated V-groove opening through the upper edge of the shield. The support includes a handle for simultaneously grasping the grip of a long gun with one hand, enabling the individual to support the shield and the long gun by the one hand. The individual's opposite hand is free to operate the long gun. Thus, the hand that supports the shield also supports the long gun.

Abstract: Firearms having a locked breech are disclosed. An example firearm includes a barrel; a bolt head; a firing pin having a bulge; a bolt head carrier having a forward position and a rearward position; a central force receiving component receiving a rear end of the barrel and defining a plurality of recesses; and a locking bolt penetrating the bolt head. The locking bolt is movable between: (1) a locked position wherein the locking bolt engages in the recesses of the central force receiving component to thereby lock the bolt head to the central force receiving component and (2) an unlocked position wherein the bolt head is free to move with the bolt head carrier. The locking bolt is pressed by the bolt head carrier into the locked position when the bolt head carrier is in the distal position. The locking bolt defines an oblong hole which is penetrated by the firing pin.

Abstract: A continuously lockable adjustment device for immobilizing elements which are movable relative to each other includes a stepped cylinder having a first cylinder step and a second cylinder step, the second cylinder step having a larger cross-sectional area than the first cylinder step, a stepped piston having a first piston step guided in the first cylinder step and a second piston step guided in the second cylinder step, and a piston rod connected to the piston opposite the first piston step and extending sealed off out an end of the cylinder. The cylinder has a first working space and a second working space separated by the piston and filled with a working fluid in which the piston can be displaced axially, thereby displacing working fluid from one working space to the other working space.

Abstract: A method for controlling an air servo cylinder apparatus includes an advancing process of advancing a piston up to a target position by controlling, by a controller, servo valves individually connected to a pressure chamber on the head side and that on the rod side of the cylinder, and a pressurizing process of subsequently applying a required pressurizing force to the piston. In the advancing process, the piston starts to be driven with the servo valve on the head side opened to the air intake side and the servo valve on the rod side opened to the exhaust side. Thereafter, the opening degree of the servo valve on the rod side is varied into an opening degree in accordance with a deviation of the current position from the target position, and thereby the piston is smoothly decelerated as it approaches the target position.

Abstract: Described here is a mechanical and electronic device which can accurately draw up and dispense a volume of fluid. A novel syringe is described which can replace (and overcome some of the shortfalls) of the traditional mechanical syringe by way of a liquid syringe. The syringe system is designed to be used in conjunction with modern liquid handling systems used in biological and biochemical research as related to drug screening. However, the syringe system is not limited to such applications. Also of key importance to this invention, is the use of a monitoring system to accurately monitor and record the actual volumes being drawn up and dispensed. The liquid piston has the advantage of reduced friction and removes the necessity for there to be any o-ring or sealing system which requires periodic replacement and/or maintenance.

The through hole is defined through the annular body. The air port is formed radially through the annular body and the inside flange from the axial through hole to the outside surface of the annular body. The inner bushing is formed inside the inner flange and has an inner diameter. The pneumatic cylinder plug is used with a closed pneumatic device to further support a piston rod in the closed pneumatic device.

Abstract: Processes for recovering helium from reject gas streams of various types that arise during natural gas processing. The processes include a membrane gas separation step. The reject gas stream is treated in the membrane separation step to yield a helium-enriched permeate stream and a helium-depleted residue stream. The permeate stream is sent for further helium separation or purification in the gas plant or at another facility or sold as crude helium. The residue stream is discharged from the process to a vent line, fuel line, purge line or the like.

Abstract: An Ni—Ti—Nb based multiple phase alloy consists of a combined phase which comprises a phase for the hydrogen permeability and a phase for the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement. The alloy has a composition satisfying the formula: NixTiyNb(100-x-y) in which x=25˜45 mol % and y=25˜55 mol %. A metal membrane for hydrogen separation-purification is prepared using the alloy material. The alloy material is prepared by blending Ni, Ti and Nb and melting the blend. The metal membrane permits the hydrogen separation-purification and thus the resulting purified hydrogen gas can be used as a fuel and can be applied to fields of production of semiconductors.

Abstract: One or more continuous rotary contactors, also known as adsorbent wheels, containing adsorbent materials are employed to dry, purify or separate components from a gas stream. The invention has particular application in treating air prior to cryogenic air separation operations.

Abstract: A method of cleaning the adsorbent media of a rotary concentrator in-situ while maintaining operation of the concentrator, including directing washing liquid into the sectors in the desorb plenum, then rotating the sectors one full revolution plus at least one sector into the desorb plenum to bring a second sector into the desorb plenum, washing the second sector and repeating the cycle until all of the adsorbent media is washed. The method may also include directing washing liquid into sectors not located in the desorb plenum.

Abstract: A portable apparatus for heating and cooling a plurality of structures comprises a fluid heater operative to supply warm fluid, a fluid chiller operative to supply cool fluid, and a plurality of portable heat exchanger units, each comprising a fluid coil and a fan operative to create an air stream through the fluid coil. A pump is operatively connected to the fluid heater, fluid chiller, and fluid coils and is operative, when the apparatus is in a heating mode, to pump warm fluid from the fluid heater through the fluid coils, and is operative, when the apparatus is in a cooling mode, to pump cool fluid from the fluid chiller through the fluid coils. The fluid heater, fluid chiller, portable heat exchanger units, and pump are operatively connected by releasable connections such that the apparatus can be transported in parts and assembled at a desired destination.

Abstract: An air treatment system includes a recirculation line (24) through which air from the enclosed space can be recirculated, and a contaminant adsorption assembly (36) is provided in an auxiliary supply conduit (31). In the event that contaminants are detected in atmospheric air, air from the enclosed space can be recirculated for conditioning and then readmitted to the enclosed space. Oxygen that is breathed by occupants of the enclosed space can be replenished by admitting air from atmosphere, which is treated using the adsorption assembly and then mixed with air that is in the enclosed space or being recirculated for admission to the enclosed space.

Abstract: The present invention provides an adsorption filter, comprising: at least one thin plate honeycomb filtering medium carrying a gas-adsorbing medium thereon; and a filter case housing the honeycomb filtering medium therein, wherein the thin plate honeycomb filtering medium is disposed in the filter case in such a manner as to make a series of V configurations with respect to a ventilation direction. Abstract: Disclosed are thermoplastic food skewers useful for processing foods at high temperatures. Also disclosed are convenience meals that comprise these food skewers. A corndog is a particular example of such a convenience meal.

Abstract: The present invention is directed toward a method and apparatus for preparing pancakes that retain condiments such as maple syrup and butter, thereby preventing the condiments from spreading to other breakfast items and otherwise creating a mess. A cooking surface is provided. At least one raised member is secured to the cooking surface. In this fashion, pancake batter can be poured on the cooking surface, and the raised member creates a hole in the center of the pancake. A spatula device also is provided for use in preparing pancakes on the griddle of the present invention. The spatula is provided with a notched portion in the scraper blade such that the blade clears the raised member of the cooking surface and permits turning of the pancakes. A method for preparing said pancakes also is provided.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to baking apparatuses that are adapted for use in baking cakes, custards and other dishes that involve the use of a water bath. In a disclosed embodiment of the invention a baking apparatus is disclosed that includes an inner and outer pan, which may be formed as an integral unit. The outer pan is preferably adapted to receive and hold water and the inner pan is adapted to receive a springform containing a cheesecake batter or other mixture. The side or sides of the inner pan are preferably watertight and prevent leakage of water into the inner pan. The present invention offers the advantage of water bath baking without the problem of water from the bath leaking into the springform that contains the cake batter.

Abstract: A cutter for sectioning cheese in the form of a wheel. The cutter includes an apparatus for a cheese wheel to be divided by a set of horizontal or inclined staggered blades into smaller wheels, the cheese then being placed onto a platform. Another set of blades with a different orientation such as vertical then pass through the smaller wheels. The second set of blades may include one cylindrical blade removing an outer periphery and providing a uniform outer diameter and may include a plurality of linear, diametral blades sectioning each smaller wheel into portions or wedges. A second apparatus moves the portions or wedges to be packaged from the platform, and then retracts so the second set of blades and platform may return to a position for sectioning or portioning a second cheese wheel.
