Abstract: During sulfur release control in an internal combustion engine, a rich period and a lean period are alternately repeated. The air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas is controlled toward a target air-fuel ratio (14.3) by adding fuel from a fuel adding valve in the rich period. An ECU determines whether the actual air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas detected by an air-fuel ratio sensor has reached a stoichiometric air-fuel ratio each time the rich period ends at which addition of fuel from the fuel adding valve is stopped. A counter counts the number of times the ECU has determined that the actual air-fuel ratio of exhaust gas has not reached the stoichiometric air-fuel ratio. When the value of the counter becomes greater than or equal to a permissible value, the ECU determines that there is an abnormality in the sulfur release control.

Abstract: In a diesel engine provided with a diesel particulate filter 81 and an exhaust throttle valve 9, noise is decreased that is produced when the exhaust throttle valve is returned back to the fully opened state after a diesel particulate filter 81 has been regenerated by oxidizing and removing the particulate matter deposited thereon. The exhaust system of the diesel engine is equipped with the diesel particulate filter 81 and a catalyst 82 on the upstream thereof, and is further equipped with the exhaust throttle valve 9 on the downstream. The diesel particulate filter 81 is regenerated by operating the diesel engine in a state where the exhaust throttle valve 9 is opened to a small degree. When the regeneration has finished, the diesel engine is run at a decreased rotational speed and, thereafter, the exhaust throttle valve 9 is returned back to the fully opened state.

  • Publication number: 20050217256
Abstract: An electronic control unit of an internal combustion engine calculates a basic post-injection quantity of temperature increasing means if a deposition quantity of particulate matters deposited on a diesel particulate filter (DPF) exceeds a predetermined value. Then, a final post-injection quantity is calculated by correcting the basic post-injection quantity based on a temperature correction value, which is calculated by multiplying a deviation between DPF upstream exhaust gas temperature and target temperature and past temperature correction values by feedback gains. The feedback gains are switched in accordance with a delay in an exhaust gas temperature change in a present operating state, based on an intake air quantity sensed by an air flow meter. Thus, response can be improved, while maintaining stability.

Abstract: An apparatus having a pressure control system that balances the natural gas flow rate passing through a multi-stage, axial-flow, impulse turbogenerator to produce an electrical power output is provided. The pressure control system includes a primary bypass conduit circuit; pressure regulator valves; modulating valves; and flow sensors. The pressure control system is operatively connected to the multi-stage, axial-flow, impulse turbogenerator. The turbogenerator is operatively connected to both a microprocessor based governor control and a generator for producing electrical output and is preferably contained within a section of bypass conduit that is directly connected to an existing gas distribution pipeline. As the electrical load on the generator and downstream customer demand for gas fluctuate, the pressure control system can provide the proper amount of gas flow through the primary bypass and turbine that is required to produce a predetermined, steady state electrical output.

Abstract: A drive system of a working vehicle including a main engine drivingly connected to a hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump is connected to first and second hydraulic motors. When an undesirable operating condition is detected, a control device shifts an actuator associated with at least one of the wheels, to reduce the displacement volume of the hydraulic motors driving that wheel. In addition, shifts are made in the actuator of the respective other hydraulic motor and/or in the actuator of the hydraulic pump, in order to maintain a constant speed of travel. The control device shifts the actuator of the hydraulic motor of the other wheel toward greater displacement, and if that shift is insufficient to compensate for the undesirable operating condition, the control device will shift the actuator of the hydraulic pump in the direction of reduced displacement volume.

Abstract: High-efficiency combustion engines, including Otto cycle engines, use a steam-diluted fuel charge at elevated pressure. Air is compressed, and water is evaporated into the compressed air via the partial pressure effect using waste heat from the engine. The resultant pressurized air-steam mixture then burned in the engine with fuel, preferably containing hydrogen to maintain flame front propagation. The high-pressure, steam-laden engine exhaust is used to drive an expander to provide additional mechanical power. The exhaust can also be used to reform fuel to provide hydrogen for the engine combustion. The engine advantageously uses the partial pressure effect to convert low-grade waste heat from engine into useful mechanical power. The engine is capable of high efficiencies (e.g. >50%), with minimal emissions.

Abstract: A method for controlling a cooling device for a switched power device, e.g., a digital amplifier, is presented. The method includes sensing the output signal and adjusting the power of the cooling device according to the output power of the switched power device. The invention eliminates the need for temperature sensors attached to the heat sink by recognizing that the heat generated in switched power devices is correlated to the output power. Further, a circuit implementing the method and an amplifier using the inventive circuit is presented.

Abstract: A refrigeration system that is capable of using carbon dioxide as a refrigerant and makes use of an evaporator that operates as a thermosyphon insensitive to orientation. The refrigeration system includes a condenser adapted to be wrapped around and physically contact a heat sink for conducting heat from a refrigerant within the condenser to the heat sink, a first line connected to the condenser through which the refrigerant is discharged from the condenser after being condensed to a liquid state, an evaporator coupled to the first fluid line and adapted for physical contact with a body so as to draw heat from the body to vaporize the refrigerant within the evaporator, and a second fluid line connected to the evaporator and through which the refrigerant is discharged from the evaporator after being vaporized and then delivered to the condenser. At least the evaporator is formed to have a multiport tube comprising a plurality of parallel passages with hydraulic diameters of less than 0.

Abstract: The present invention is a multiple zoned air conditioning system for providing air conditioning to the interior of an automotive vehicle. The air conditioning system includes a main air conditioning module with a first heat exchanger for cooling and with a second heat exchanger for heating, as well as a multiple zone module. The main air conditioning module creates, in cooperation with the multiple zone module, at least one first air flow conditioned for temperature. The multiple zone module is interchangeably disposed in the main air conditioning module, with the second heat exchanger engaging the multiple zone module so as to allow air flow therethrough, when the multiple zone module is disposed on the main air conditioning module.

Abstract: A cooling system includes a cooling fan, a fan input-output module for transmitting a control signal to the fan for controlling the rotational speed of the fan, and a chipset interface for generating the fan control signal based on a change in a vital temperature of the computer system. Further provided is a controller for receiving the vital temperature and forwarding the vital temperature to the chipset interface, and a temperature transducer for generating the vital temperature and outputting the vital temperature to the controller. The chipset interface monitors a rotational speed of the cooling fan, and monitors a vital temperature of the computer system. The chipset interface then sets the fan power based on a change in the vital temperature. When the vital temperature decreases, the fan power is reduced to slow the fan, and when the vital temperature increases, the fan power is increased to speed the fan.
