Publication number: 20060180077Abstract: SiC is a very stable substance, and it is difficult to control the condition of a SiC surface to be suitable for crystal growth in conventional Group III nitride crystal growing apparatuses. This problem is solved as follows. The surface of a SiC substrate 1 is rendered into a step-terrace structure by performing a heating process in an atmosphere of HCl gas. The surface of the SiC substrate 1 is then treated sequentially with aqua regia, hydrochloric acid, and hydrofluoric acid. A small amount of silicon oxide film formed on the surface of the SiC substrate 1 is etched so as to form a clean SiC surface 3 on the substrate surface. The SiC substrate 1 is then installed in a high-vacuum apparatus and the pressure inside is maintained at ultrahigh vacuum (such as 10?6 to 10?8 Pa). In the ultrahigh vacuum state, a process of irradiating the surface with a Ga atomic beam 5 at time t1 at temperature of 800° C. or lower and performing a heating treatment at 800° C. or higher is repeated at least once.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 18, 2004Publication date: August 17, 2006Inventors: Jun Suda, Hiroyuki Matsunami, Norio Onojima

Publication number: 20060180079Abstract: An apparatus for scraping the surface of a sink roll in a molten metal coating process comprises a support member having a pair of linearly movable arms supported thereon. The support member depends from a bridge structure spanning a continuous metal coating line, and a pair or arms, the arms being disposed on opposite sides of said support member. Each arm has a scraper assembly portion attached thereto. Each scraper assembly portion has two blades affixed thereto, a forward scraper blade and a rear scraper blade, with a connecting portion connecting the two blades. The connecting portion also has a first pivot point for attaching the connecting portion to the arm associated with the scraper assembly portion, the first pivot point being disposed between said forward and rear scraper blades for following the radial contours of the roll surface. A second pivot point permits the blades to follow the crown of the roll.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 15, 2005Publication date: August 17, 2006Inventors: Erin Sapp, Michael Hickman, Scott Brooks, James Piper

Publication number: 20060180084Abstract: This invention includes substrate susceptors which receive substrates to be deposited upon. In one implementation, a substrate susceptor includes a body having a substrate receiving side. The substrate receiving side has a face having a substrate receiving recess formed therein. The recess has an outer peripheral sidewall. At least three projections extend outwardly from a portion of the face. The projections respectively comprise a radially inner sidewall which extends outwardly from the recess outer peripheral sidewall to a projection upper surface. Other aspects and implementations are contemplated.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2006Publication date: August 17, 2006Inventors: Eric Blomiley, Joel Drewes, Nirmal Ramaswamy, Ross Dando

Publication number: 20060180085Abstract: A one-piece or otherwise unitary annular shim member made from a perforated metallic material is used to maintain a space between stacked annular preforms during a manufacturing process, such as densification. The metallic material used preferably can withstand at least the temperatures encountered during densification. The one-piece structure advantageously simplifies the arrangement of the preforms in a process chamber and causes less deformation in the preforms. In one example, the shim member is made from a metallic mesh and may utilize a crimped weave structure.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 2, 2004Publication date: August 17, 2006Inventor: Kenny Chang
