Abstract: An improved sole construction for use in shoes. The sole construction consists of a hammock-like lattice formed of medium to high modulus polymers, or a lightweight metal alloy. The lattice substantially conforms in topography to the foot, or a weight-bearing portion thereof (such as the heel or forefoot). The lattice may be disposed on, and supported by, a resilient frame, or secured directly to the shoe upper. The lattice supports the foot while suspending it slightly, even during gait, above the interior base of the shoe. The suspended portions of the foot are thusly protected from the shock of striking a surface (such as the ground, during gait), and are gently supported while bearing a load.

Abstract: A pivot door hinge assembly includes a clamp housing, wedge, and base plate. The clamp housing is preferably generally U-shaped and has an interior channel. The interior channel is tapered such that one end of the interior channel is wider than a second end. The wedge is located in the interior channel of the clamp housing and in between one side of the glass door and an inner surface of the clamp housing. The wedge is also tapered. The set screw is located at one end of the clamp housing and is used to urge the wedge from that end toward the other end. As the wedge moves away from the wider end of the interior channel, this causes the wedge to move closer to the glass door and apply greater pressure against the glass door and an interior side of the clamp housing. This is because the tapered interior channel forces the wedge away from one side of the clamp housing toward the other side. A base plate having a raised portion may also be used.

Abstract: The aim of the invention is to subject a non-woven, which consists, at least in part, of metal fibers, to a stitch-bonding or surface finishing by means of hydrodynamic needling. The respective material web can be produced exclusively from metal fibers but can also be produced from a blend consisting of metal fibers and textile fibers. The hydrodynamic water pressure during needling depends on the desired pore volume after stitch-bonding.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for winding a sheet of aligned parallel yarns onto a beam is described. The beam winder utilizes a circularly arced yarn spool rack that feeds each yarn to an alignment comb through associated guide tubes. The distance between each spool of yarn and the alignment comb is substantially the same for all spools of yarn, thereby equalizing the force necessary to pull them to the comb. Next, the aligned sheet of material is preshrunk using heated rollers and wound onto a beam. Multiple speed controlled stepper motors are utilized to maintain a constant low level of tension in the sheet during the shrinking process. After shrinkage, the tension level of the yarn sheet is increased as it is wrapped onto the beam. A turntable that supports two or more beams is provided to facilitate the rapid switching of beams once one beam has become full.

Abstract: A conformal vacuum cup provides a machine tool attachment fitting usable in a flexible-track drill system. Using multiple, independently articulated stiffeners, the conformal vacuum cup conforms to the contour of complex aerostructure surface shapes. The individual stiffeners are decoupled from each other to some extent by grooves and slots molded into resilient overmolding material to support long-axis curving. Spacing pins employ a domed shape consonant with the elastic deformation of the workpiece surface under load. The pins employ a hard material to prevent particle embedment in use and to control position tolerance for drill heads and other tools traveling on the flexible track. Partial holes in each vacuum cup are blocked by diaphragms. Interconnection from a vacuum system manifold to the vacuum cups can be realized by penetrating the diaphragms and inserting barbed fittings connected by vacuum tubing.

Abstract: A modular base plate system is for use with a CNC machine for holding workpieces during manufacturing. The system includes a “turret-style” base plate having a plurality of stations positioned around the side of the base plate. Each station comprises a U-shaped pocket machined or otherwise formed in the base plate sidewall. The base plate system further includes a number of fixture blocks that fit in the pockets, with each block having a holder for holding workpieces. In operation, workpieces are attached to the fixture blocks, the fixture blocks are inserted into the pockets, and the fixture blocks are removably secured to the base plate. Then, the base plate is affixed to a CNC machine in a standard manner, e.g., using a pallet or rotary table or the like. In this manner, machining operations can be performed on a number of parts in sequence before any part changeover is required.

Abstract: The disclosure pertains to methods for inserting a soft cap onto a slider in order to protect the slider from damaging the package film of a reclosable bag during high pressure pasteurization. A first embodiment discloses manual or automated insertion of the soft cap onto the slider, prior to inserting the slider/cap assembly onto a length of zipper. A second embodiment discloses automated insertion of the soft cap onto a slider which is already mounted on a length of reclosable zipper. A third embodiment uses an insert molding process with a first mold cavity to form the slider and a second mold cavity to form the soft cap over the slider. A fourth embodiment uses a dual shot molding process in a single mold cavity to form both the slider and the soft cap thereover.

Abstract: A tool removes from, or inserts into, an arm of a wheel mounting for an automotive vehicle a bushing. The tool includes a press member configured to grip the arm while overlying the location in the arm for the bushing. A screw element passes through a portion of the press member and engages a pressing cup with an outer rim that abuts an end of the bushing as the screw is manually rotated. The press member, screw element, and pressing cup upon being aligned and assembled with the press member gripping the arm and the rim of the pressing cup bearing against the end of the bushing, the screw element is rotated to apply a force to the end of the bushing as the screw element advances in the direction of the arm.
