Abstract: An internal combustion engine intake device is configured to suppress the occurrence of freezing in a portion thereof where blow-by gas or another gas is introduced into an intake passage. The intake device basically has a throttle chamber, an intake air collector, an air induction pipe, a partitioning part, a gas introducing pipe and a volume chamber. The air induction pipe is provided between the throttle valve and the intake air collector. The partitioning part divides the space inside the air induction pipe into first and second air induction spaces. The gas introducing pipe introduces the blow-by gas into the first and second air induction spaces directly. The blow-by gas contains moisture and has a higher temperature than the fresh air in the first and second air induction spaces. The volume chamber is arranged between the gas introducing pipe and the first and second air induction spaces.

Abstract: A process for snow melting but useful elsewhere, accomplished by an air/water interface and a water/snow interface. Water is sprayed into a stream of hot air, which is blown onto the snow. The small particles of water are intimately involved with the air molecules and the heat of the air is absorbed by the water droplets, the air giving up its heat to a very large extent. Next, the droplets are combined into larger drops, and then allowed to drop onto the snow. Water, being much heavier than air is much better at absorbing and carrying heat. The heat of the hot air is thus transferred to the snow causing it to melt by using hot water as a heat transfer medium. If the some of the water turns to steam and condenses back into water the effect is further enhanced by about ten times.

This thermomechanical treatment can be carried out at a temperature below 115 DEG C., or even below 100 DEG C., and with a high throughput rate. With this treatment a granulate or other semi-finished product is obtained that can be shaped to produce an article that has excellent dimensional stability in water. By adding dialdehyde polysaccharide with a low degree of oxidation to starch it is possible to blow transparent films based on thermoplastic starch which have improved mechanical properties.
