Abstract: A system and method to model and analyze the mixing energies of high-yielding non-Newtonian fluids to prevent chemical lost circulation is disclosed. Laboratory tests are preformed under varying conditions from which data on the mixing energies needed to optimize the use of high-yielding non-Newtonian fluids to prevent lost circulation is obtained. This data is then applied to a non-linear mathematical modeling system that is capable of scaling the data to give a dimensionless value. This value can be combined with historic information to predict optimal flow rates and mixtures to prevent chemical lost circulation. This data may be verified by means of simulation, lab testing, or application to a full-size well.

When the fluid string reaches the predetermined applied pressure, the actuator undertakes a specified action such as longitudinal movement, rotation, expansion, etc. that actuates or operates the wellbore tool. Abstract: There is disclosed an improved expandable centraliser (20;120;220;320), which may optionally also be adjustable, and a related downhole assembly and a method of completing a well. Previous art has suffered from a number of problems and essentially attempted to mitigate the effect of pipe expansion, i.e. using tension caused in the centraliser body. The centraliser (20;120;220;320) of the invention uses the expansion of the tubing to cause compressive forces, which are exerted over known distances to energise blades of the centraliser by using relative motion caused by said expansion. The expandable centraliser (20;120;220;320) comprises at least one first member (30;130;230;330), and at least one second member (35;135;235;335), wherein, in use, relative circumferential motion of the at least one first and second members (30,35;130,135;230,235;330,335) causes radial motion of at least one portion (40;140;240;340) of the expandable centraliser (20;120;220;320).

Abstract: A controlled leakage seal assembly having a first stationary portion adapted to be connected in substantially fluid-tight relation to a source of drilling fluid and a second portion adapted to be connected in substantially fluid-tight relation to a rotary portion including a washpipe. The seal includes a first housing and a stack of radially inwardly extending, spaced apart annular stators, and a second seal housing and stack of spaced apart radially outwardly extending annular rotors interleaved with one another. The seal assembly, a cartridge, permits the first and second housings to rotate relative to each other in substantially fluid-tight relation except for the drilling fluid entering an outlet region at greatly reduced pressure. In a preferred embodiment, the seal is held by a sleeve that permits the cartridge to be removed and replaced while the fluid connections to the sleeve remains.

Abstract: There is provided a down hole hammer having a drive sub or chuck (10) having splines (11), and a drill bit (13) having longitudinal splines (23) extending toward a bit head (15) having a bit face (16) bounded by a series of gauge row mounting portions (17), each of which has a carbide button insert (20). The bit shank splines (23) cooperate with chuck splines (11) to rotate the bit (13), the respective splines (23), (11) being proportioned to allow hammer motor exhaust air to pass down the splines. Drillings (37) are drilled from the termination of the spline milling, through to intersect with fluid passage (33) extending from sample recovery bore (22) to the bit face (16). A bore seal (32) is formed by milling a plurality of circumferential grooves (36), fed by a plurality of transverse holes (35) intersecting the air passage (33). Fluid passage (33) may be altered to fine tune the airflow to suit specific ground conditions, by effecting a change in diameter at point (38).

Abstract: A luggage weight measuring device for integration into a luggage case, or between the luggage case and handle or for mounting to the luggage case handle. In one embodiment at least one electronic load measuring sensor is mounted directly between the handle and the luggage case, for example to a deformable member which deforms as the handle is lifted to take up the load carried by the luggage case. Deformation is mathematically related to the load. A processor determines the load corresponding to the deformation as detected by the sensors and displays the load on a user viewable display on the luggage case or handle.

The powered hand truck includes an electric motor, a power source, a programable motor controller, and a transaxle, which are adaptable to existing hand trucks, or may be integrated into a new powered hand truck. The motor controller controls the motor to provide consistent speed independent of load weight or incline, and further provides regenerative braking. The advanced control may be wired or wireless and provides a touch sensitive circuit to command stop if the operator is not holding the handle, and an electronic potentiometer. The wireless control further includes a unique code for validating speed commands and initiates deceleration if the control signal is lost.
