Publication number: 20070008310Abstract: Methods, data processing systems and computer program products for automatically generating a display of an illuminated physical object on a video display unit of a data processing system are described. Pixels of a predefined model (8) of the object are selected. For each selected pixel (BP) a first light intensity (LI_BP—1) of the pixel (BP) resulting from a first illumination of the object and a second light intensity (LI_BP—2) resulting from a second illumination of the object are calculated. The two light intensities (LI_BP—1, LI_BP—2) are combined to yield a total light intensity (LI_BP_tot), which is transformed into an input signal (ES_BP) for the pixel (BP) processable by the video display unit. Using the pixels and their input signals, the display (9) of the object is generated, transmitted to the video display unit and displayed on the latter.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 15, 2005Publication date: January 11, 2007Applicant: DaimlerChrysler AGInventors: Joerg Hahn, Konrad Polthier

Publication number: 20070008312Abstract: A method of estimating three-dimensional camera position information from a series of two-dimensional images that form a panorama employs common features in adjoining image pairs in the series to estimate a transform between the images in the pairs. The common features are subsequently employed to adjust an estimated rotational component of each transform by reducing error between coordinates corresponding to the common features in three-dimensional space in image pairs, on a pair-by-pair basis. A global optimization of the position estimation, used for long sequences of images such as 360 degree panoramas, refines the estimates of the rotational and focal length components of the transforms by concurrently reducing error between all 3D common feature coordinates for all adjoining pairs.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2005Publication date: January 11, 2007Inventors: Hui Zhou, Derek Hang Chun Kwok, Ian Clarke

Publication number: 20070008316Abstract: When a plurality of coplanar shapes are rendered over one another by performing a hidden surface removal operation using the Z value, a reference plane is specified, and the Z value of each point of a shape to be rendered on the reference plane is uniquely calculated based on the Z value of the rendering start point, the Z value gradient dZdx for the X direction, and the Z value gradient dZdy for the Y direction. Thus, any coplanar shapes will have the same Z value for each point shared therebetween. Therefore, if the rendering process is performed under such a rule that a shape is overwritten when the Z value of the new shape is less than or equal to the current Z value, it is ensured that the previously-rendered shape is always overwritten with a later-rendered, coplanar shape. Thus, it is possible to prevent a phenomenon that some pixels of a later-rendered shape that are supposed to be displayed are not displayed.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 5, 2006Publication date: January 11, 2007Inventors: Shigeaki Mido, Satoshi Shigenaga

Publication number: 20070008323Abstract: Video coders use motion prediction, where a reference frame is used to predict a current frame. Most video compression standards require reference frame buffering and accessing. Given the randomized memory accesses to store and access reference frames, there are substantial overlapped areas. Conventional techniques fail to recognize this overlap, and perform duplicate loading, thereby causing increased memory traffic. Techniques disclosed herein reduce the memory traffic by avoiding the duplicated loading of overlapped area, by using a reference cache that is interrogated for necessary reference data prior to accessing reference memory. If the reference data is not in the cache, then that data is loaded from the memory and saved into the cache. If the reference data is in the cache, then that data is used instead of loading it from memory again. Thus, memory traffic is reduced by avoiding duplicated memory access to overlapped areas.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2005Publication date: January 11, 2007Inventor: Yaxiong Zhou

Publication number: 20070008324Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for the sharing of graphics adapter resources among multiple partitions in a virtual machine environment. A first mechanism allows for the sharing of graphics adapter resources so that one partition, a video service partition, containing a graphics proxy process, can use this graphics proxy process to offer graphics adapter resources to another partition, a video client partition. The graphics proxy process controls access time by any given partition to the graphics adapter resources. In one aspect, it uses a time bank to control access time, and the time bank controls how long a virtual graphics adapter offered to the video client partition can access the graphics adapter resources. A second mechanism synchronizes virtual memory in the video client partition to virtual memory in the video service partition. A third mechanism allows for multiple video client partition overlays using a pixel-shader-based virtual overlay mechanism.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 8, 2005Publication date: January 11, 2007Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventor: Dustin Green

Publication number: 20070008331Abstract: A bidirectional text display method embodied in a functional programming language which first assigns bidirectional attributes to a logical character stream. Next, through explicit processing, level numbers are assigned, honoring any directional overrides present in the logical character stream. Subsequent weak and neutral type processing potentially causes attribute types to change based upon surrounding attribute types. Then, implicit processing assigns final level numbers to the stream which control reordering. Finally, reordering processing produces a sequence of characters in display order. By separating the facets of layout dealing with reordering from those that are concerned with rendering, such as line breaking, glyph selection, and shaping, the Haskell-based method is more discernible and comprehendable, thereby allowing it to be more useful as a model upon which others may base bidirectional implementations.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2006Publication date: January 11, 2007Inventor: Steven Atkin

Publication number: 20070008334Abstract: In an image display apparatus of the invention, a motion area detection module sequentially detects a motion area in each of frame images sequentially displaced by an image display device. A motion compensation module performs motion compensation for the detected motion area of each frame image, generates drive image data with a result of the motion compensation, and outputs the drive image data to actuate the image display device. A luminance adjustment module eliminates a luminance difference between the detected motion area and a stationary area in each frame image, which is ascribed to a decrease in luminance of the motion area relative to a luminance of the stationary area due to the motion compensation by the motion compensation module and potentially arises in the frame image displayed by the image display device. This arrangement of the invention enables effective motion compensation without requiring a large-scale processing circuit for generation of interpolated frame images.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 11, 2006Publication date: January 11, 2007Applicant: SEIKO EPSON CORPORATIONInventor: Kesatoshi Takeuchi
