Abstract: A can lid of a can provided with an easily openable opening means is disclosed wherein the can lid is equipped with a can lid which is fastened by winding tightly on the can main body and the top end opening of the can main body, a score section installed around the territory of the prearranged opening area and a tab for severing the score section. In the can lid, there is formed a protrusion protruding upward from the can lid in front of the can opening during manufacturing of the can lid, in which it is a collapsing protrusion where the protrusion elastically deforms into the can main body by depressing motion of the user and thereby enables forming of a concave section for easy insertion of the user's finger.

Abstract: A wafer container with a door, the door has at least one latching mechanism, wherein the latching mechanism has a spring member that holds the latching mechanism at one or more desired positions that preferably correspond to latch-open and latch-closed conditions. In a preferred embodiment, the spring member has an over-center condition that urges the latching mechanism towards the favored positions, thereby resisting unintended actuation of the latching mechanism. Moreover, in preferred embodiments, the latching mechanism has soft stops at the latch open or latch closed condition that minimizes abrupt snapping into position of the latching mechanism. Preferred embodiments utilize a rotatable member configured as a cammed member with an elongate rigid plastic member having at least one node, forming a plastic spring. The spring is pivotally mounted on the rotatable member and pivotally mounted to the door structure.

The cup includes a cap-engaging portion adjacent a lip surrounding an opening, and an inwardly projecting ledge adjacent the cap-engaging portion that includes multiple spaced apart recesses. The cap includes a cup-engaging portion and a cover portion. The cap has multiple spaced apart openings extending through the cover portion, wherein each of the openings corresponds to a different one of the recesses in the ledge of the cup.

Abstract: An improved truck bed toolbox lid and a method of producing the same. The truck bed toolbox lid includes an outer metallic sheet layer comprising a generally rectangular top sheet member, a longitudinal front edge member, two lateral edge members and a longitudinal rear edge member. A metallic liner sheet member is disposed inside the top sheet member in edge contact abutment with beveled inside edges of the front and rear longitudinal edge members and the lateral edge members to create an internal cavity in which the liner is by stitch welding. One or more injection ports are provided through the liner sheet member through which a self-expanding and self-curing, relatively high-density, foam is injected. The stitch welded edge contacts leave non-welded, gas permeable junctions along the wedged cavity periphery at a funneled apex of the edge contacted boundary which facilitate expansion of the foam toward the outermost edges of the cavity.

The trash bag dispenser comprising a housing for containing the trash bag and a cover having a slot therein for guiding the trash bag therethrough. The cover is movably connected to the housing and integral therewith for allowing the cover to capture the trash bag and to allow the trash bag to freely move when urged through the slot. A closure, comprises a snap button fastener. The trash bag dispenser is attachable to an interior of the trash receptacle with an adhesive backed hook and loop type fastener.

Abstract: A mixing assembly includes a mixing insert and a mixer housing that form a cavity when mated. The mixing insert includes orifices that penetrate the mixer insert. An inner vessel receives a product concentrate from a product concentrate source and the cavity receives a reconstituting fluid from a source, such that the reconstituting fluid is forced to exit the cavity through the orifices. Upon exiting the orifices, the reconstituting fluid engages the product concentrate stream, thereby reconstituting the product concentrate. The reconstituted product is then dispensed and evacuated from an end of a mixed product outlet tube, typically exterior to a protected environment, such as a chamber of a product dispenser. The mixing assembly includes varying mixing inserts to provide variable forms of engagement techniques.

Abstract: A childproof lock for a reciprocating fluid dispensing pump of the type that is threaded into a locked position. In one set of embodiments, the lock requires simultaneous displacement in a direction other than unthreading to permit reciprocation of the pump. In another set of embodiments, fluid flow is permitted only when a lock is simultaneously displaced in a direction other than reciprocation of the pump.

Abstract: A pneumatic grease gun has a first compressed air chamber formed between a sleeve and a first piston set, and a second compressed air chamber formed between the sleeve and a second piston set so that the pressure of compressed air is double to increase the thrust force to push grease therefore make replenishment of fresh grease more effective. Moreover, grease is blocked by the two piston sets and the sleeve so that grease is prevented from returning and clogging the air vane and the life span of the pneumatic grease gun increases.

The dispenser head may be movable between a dispensing position in which flow communication between the outlet orifice and an inside of the receptacle is established, and a closed position in which flow communication between the outlet orifice and the inside of the receptacle is interrupted. The product may be dispensed from the outlet orifice in response to a reduction in the volume of the inside of the receptacle.

Abstract: A platform receives at least two water bottles. A handtruck is configured to engage under a water bottle on the platform and carry it to the dispensing cabinet. In the handtruck, the water bottle is tilted so that the lowest corner of the bottle is directly below its neck. The handtruck engages and locks into the cabinet with the water bottle in proper, tilted position. A suction tube is dropped straight down into the bottle so that it reaches the lowest corner of the bottle. The suction tube carries a pump and discharge spout so that actuation of the pump causes dispensing of water.

Abstract: A baby carrier comprises a wrapper partitioned to a front portion and a rear portion, front portion having a back support to support the back of a baby when needed and a hip sheet extending from the back support, the rear portion having a bottom sheet extending from the hip sheet and a rear sheet extending from the hip sheet, auxiliary supports each connected to the bottom sheet to support the thighs of the baby when needed, and shoulder straps connecting the back support to the auxiliary supports to hook the connected shoulder straps on the shoulders of a baby caretaker when needed. The hip sheet is foldable over on the bottom sheet so as to allow the baby to sit on the hip sheet detachably layered on the bottom sheet while being supported by the auxiliary supports.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided for packaging fasteners such as screws, that is to be worn by a user. The packaging device includes a tray with a plurality of wells, each well accommodating the shank of a respective fastener. An attachment device is used for securing a tray to a user. In a preferred dispensing method, fasteners may be dispensed from the tray using a magnetized screwdriver bit which is placed over the head of the fastener, followed by withdrawing the screwdriver bit with the fastener magnetically attached.

Abstract: A dispenser having a transfer mechanism for transferring between a first source and a second source of sheet material, and a method for transferring between the first source and the second source. Dispensing is transferred from a first source to a second source upon an absence of sheet material from the first source. The transfer mechanism includes a transfer roller with a slot to receive a free end of sheet material from the second source. The transfer roller also includes a plurality of raised portions, the raised portions are free to rotate through a dispensing roller when there is an absence of sheet material from the first source. This rotation introduces the free end of sheet material from the second source to the dispensing roller, and allows dispensing from the second source. Afterwards, the transfer roller is set to receive sheet material from a new source of sheet material.

Abstract: A hydrogen operated fastener driving tool assembly including a hydrogen generator that is an integral part of the driving tool assembly. The hydrogen generator can use chemicals to generate hydrogen or electrolysis. Additionally, the generator may be disposable. Whatever is used it is capable of providing enough energy to drive over a thousand nails.

Abstract: A surgical stapling device is disclosed for the treatment of internal hemorrhoids. The surgical stapling device includes a handle portion, an elongated body portion and a head portion including an anvil assembly and a shell assembly. The head portion includes an anvil assembly including a tiltable anvil which will tilt automatically after the device has been fired and unapproximated. The tiltable anvil provides a reduced anvil profile to reduce trauma during removal of the device after the anastomoses procedure has been performed. The anvil assembly of the stapling device may include an approximation mechanism having an anvil retainer including an elongated distal extension dimensioned to be telescopingly received within a longitudinal bore of an anvil center rod of the anvil assembly. The elongated distal extension is of a length to provide telescopic engagement with the anvil center rod without obstructing visualization of the surgical site.

Abstract: A medical implant that delivers therapeutic via microtubes and a method of making the same is provided. In one embodiment a biologically implantable structure adapted to fit within the body of a patient is provided. This structure may have a plurality of individual microtubes in physical communication with its outer surface, the microtubes containing or carrying a therapeutic. In an alternative embodiment a method of manufacturing an implantable medical appliance is provided. This method includes placing a pliant stratum of microtubes onto a biologically implantable medical structure and then applying a therapeutic to the pliant stratum to cover or fill the microtubes.

Abstract: Aspects of the present invention provide methods and apparatus for connecting two tubulars using a welding process with reduced inner diameter flash. The method includes connecting an end of a first expandable tubular to an end of a second expandable tubular using a welding process and reducing an inner diameter flash using a flash reducing device. In one embodiment, the flash reducing device is a plug disposed in the bore of the two tubulars. In another embodiment, the flash reducing device is a roller member. In a further embodiment, the flash reducing device is a rotating cutting member.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a device for cleaning and then bonding substrates. According to the invention, at least two opposite substrates are obliquely or vertically sprayed with a cleansing liquid by means of at least one nozzle and are preferably dried, aligned and directly bonded under micro-clean room conditions. The bonding process is preferably visually monitored during bonding in order to immediately remove insufficiently bonded substrates from the process. The inventive device is compact and allows integration of the process steps in a single installation without disruption. The invention is further characterized by an improved quality of the bonded layers and an improved productivity of the bonding process. It also allows the use of novel bonding processes.

Abstract: System and method for formation of a hermetic seal with an significantly greater melting temperature than the melting temperature of the solder employed. The hermetic seal is formed from a solder with a low melting point and a metal having a predetermined thickness that corresponds to the solder. The solder and metal combination undergoes reflow for a period of time relative to the solder thickness. The resultant seal has a melting point at a temperature significantly greater than the melting temperature of the solder.

Abstract: A method and structure is disclosed for detaching a chip from a substrate that delays the delivery of shear force to the chip until the connectors attaching the chip to the substrate are soft enough that the delivery of shear force will not damage the chip's connectors. More particularly, the shear force is created by a bimetallic disk that, when heat is applied, is transformed into shearing force. The shearing force is delayed by a delaying device until the connectors connecting the chip to the substrate are soft enough that the application of shear force will separate the chip from the substrate without damaging the chip's connectors. The delaying device includes a physical gap that may be adjusted to control when the shear force is applied to the chip.

Abstract: An automated banking machine (10) is provided. The automated banking machine may include a fascia (50) in operative connection with a frame (110). The machine may include a plurality of hardware devices which are accessible through the fascia. The hardware devices may include a cash dispenser (24), receipt printer (20), and a card reader (22). The fascia may include replaceable bezels (550,552) with apertures therein for providing access to hardware devices. The bezels may be operative to float with respect to the fascia and hardware devices to automatically align hardware devices with the bezels. In addition the hardware devices may include movable portions which are operative to automatically align with the bezels. The bezels may include ramps, ribs, or other angled surfaces which guide the hardware devices into alignment with the openings in the bezels.

Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for validating the authenticity of a signature on a document by providing a document from an account, the document including an actual signature and a machine-readable identifier, wherein the machine-readable identifier contains a string of data representing the integral characteristics of all valid account signatures and a person-specific confidence threshold. When the document is presented at a point of presentment, the document is scanned into a document-processing machine and the actual signature is compared against all valid account signatures.

Abstract: A method is provided for automating a stored-value card transaction request. First, a keycard associated with a product identification number is selected by a customer or merchant from among a plurality of keycards. The product identification number is input at a merchant terminal. The merchant terminal transmits the product identification number to a central processor. The central processor then transmits to the merchant terminal an indicia associated with the keycard. The indicia may then be delivered to the customer.

Abstract: A method of purchasing goods and services in combination with a gaming feature is described. Consumers are provided with a bank card, which is used to identify consumers, extend credit to them and communicate purchasing data to a centralized location. A pool of funds is established in relationship to the use of the bank card by consumers. Periodically, a lottery is conducted for distributing prizes to consumers by distributing proceeds from the pool of funds.

Abstract: A game presentation such as a virtual slot machine is displayed by a display device associated with a point of sale (POS) terminal. The game presentation includes images of products for which product identifying codes are entered at the POS terminal. The game presentation indicates to a customer an outcome of a random process pursuant to which the customer may be awarded a benefit such as a free product, a discount on a product selected for purchase, a coupon or an upsell offer.

Abstract: Image capture devices attached to a computer processor are located in a retail store. Items of merchandise for sale are tracked from their display position to a shopping container using optical tracking software. The software is capable of identifying the items and containers optically. A list of items in each container is maintained in a database. A customer may request a listing of items in a cart at any time via a query. At checkout time, there is no need to scan the items.

Abstract: This present invention discloses a system and method for enhancing images of barcodes and other similar objects taken by the digital camera connected to or embedded in a mobile device. This filter works by converting the image into its equivalent gray scale. The algorithm then divides the image into sections and finds the pixels of minimum intensity in each section of the image. This minima is used to calculate cut-off values for thresholding. After thresholding, the image is reassembled from its divided sections.

Abstract: A card edge connector is provided to accommodate an electric card and electrically connects the electric card with a motherboard. In the card edge connector, an insulating housing and a pair of latch assemblies are disposed at two opposite ends of the housing. A fixed metal element and a movable metal element in the latch assembly are disposed on two neighboring side surfaces. Each of the fixed metal element and the movable metal element has a stopper and a correspondingly extension. When the supporting beams are stretched outwardly to insert the electronic card, the stoppers restrain the movement of the extension parts to prevent the free end of the supporting beams from being over moved.

Abstract: In an IC card in which an internal circuit is operated by an internal power supply formed from alternate current from outside received by an antenna, the voltage of the internal power supply sometimes changes due to the operation of the internal circuit. Therefore, the voltage controlling circuit of the present invention includes a voltage controlling current source, and when the internal circuit is not operated and the current higher than a predetermined current is detected in the voltage controlling current source, an operating current detector circuit outputs an enable signal. When the internal circuit is operated in response to the enable signal, the current consumed in the internal circuit is subtracted from the current passing through the voltage controlling current source. Consequently, the current change in the entire internal power supply can be prevented, and the output voltage of the internal power supply can be kept constant.

Abstract: The invention concerns a method for differentiating between data and instructions thereby providing against certain attacks in a data processing device such as a smart card, whereby a generator associates a random number with an applicative component of a downloaded application, and a transformer in a virtual machine applies each of the instruction words in the component and the associated random number to a transformation function so as to store the transformed instruction words when downloading the component. A second transformer applies each of the transformed words of part of the component and the associated random number to the reciprocal function of the transformation function so as to retrieve the instruction words constituting the component part, to execute the same.

Abstract: An identification device formed from a band of material and a non-reusable tamper-resistant fastening arranged to join opposite end regions of the band. A radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder is disposed on the band. The transponder includes an RFID circuit, such as may be formed on an integrated circuit (IC) chip, and an antenna. First and second electrically conductive traces are coupled to different portions of the RFID transponder. The first and second traces are arranged such that the RFID transponder is disabled when the first and second electrically conductive traces come in contact with one another. Various arrangements of the conductive traces are described to achieve improved security and functionality over the prior art.

Abstract: An Electronically-Controlled Register vent (ECRV) that can be easily installed by a homeowner or general handyman is disclosed. The ECRV can be used to convert a non-zoned HVAC system into a zoned system. The ECRV can also be used in connection with a conventional zoned HVAC system to provide additional control and additional zones not provided by the conventional zoned HVAC system. In one embodiment, the ECRV is configured have a size and form-factor that conforms to a standard manually-controlled register vent. In one embodiment, a zone thermostat is configured to provide thermostat information to the ECRV. In one embodiment, the zone thermostat communicates with a central monitoring system that coordinates operation of the heating and cooling zones.

Abstract: The present invention provides a device for monitoring the operation of a control valve (1), which is adapted to supply fluid at a predetermined temperature via an outlet (4). The device includes a sensor (10) adapted to be coupled to the outlet (4) so as to sense the temperature of the fluid. An indication device (16) and a processor (18) are provided. In use, the processor is adapted to determine the temperature of the fluid from the sensor and, provide an indication of this via the indication device.

Abstract: A method for sanitizing scuba diving equipment including aqua lungs, wet-suits, fins, caps and masks comprises exposing confined parts of the gear such as hoses, pressure regulators and mouthpieces to a pressurized flow of fluid using a fluid-conditioning spray gun adapted to mix a germicidal solution into a jet of water or other fluid carrier. The spray gun has a conical nozzle provided with a set of graduated, flexible, feather-edged disks or barbs that can hermetically mate with a number of scuba diving component apertures of different sizes and shapes.

Abstract: Methods and devices for repelling insects are disclosed. The methods and devices provide personal protection from insect bites and insect landings, particularly mosquito bites. The methods and devices employ insect repellents such as pyrethroids at low (parts per billion) levels. The methods and devices effectively minimize the number of mosquitoes landing on a subject properly using the devices.

Abstract: An emanator for emanating a composition into its surroundings, the emanator comprising: a container for containing a volatile liquid comprising a composition to be emanated; an emanation surface from which the volatile liquid evaporates; a wick for transporting the volatile liquid from the container to the emanation surface, characterized in that the transport of the liquid through both the wick and the emanator occurs at the surface of both the wick and the emanator and in that transport of the liquid through the wick occurs only at the surface of the wick by capillary action. In a preferred embodiment the wick and the emanation system are integrally formed from a material formed with microgrooves.

Abstract: An irrigation system comprises sprinkler heads with an electrically configurable spray pattern, moisture sensors, and a controller. Based upon input signals from the moisture sensors, the controller dynamically configures the spray pattern of the sprinkler head to allow more water to fall on areas that need to be watered and less water to fall on areas that do not require additional water. The irrigation system can additionally comprise fire sensors. Based upon input from the fire sensors, the controller activates the sprinklers.

Abstract: A spraying device comprises a spraying plate, having a plurality of tiny holes, a vibrating element, set on a periphery of the spraying plate, and driving a vibrating movement thereof, a wrapping layer, made of soft material and tightly surrounding the vibrating element, sealing the vibrating element from the liquid, and a fastening cap, allowing for quick mounting and dismounting of the spraying device; wherein the vibrating movement of the spraying plate causes liquid adjacent to a lower side of the spraying plate to be periodically compressed and thereby to be pressed through the holes of the spraying plate, and wherein the wrapping layer prevents external interference with the vibrating movement, at the same time minimizing transmission losses of vibrational energy, enhancing effectivity of spraying.

Abstract: A sprinkler head having a deformable member forming a collar is disclosed. The deformable member allows the sprinkler head to resist entry of foreign grit or matter within the sprinkler head, and allows the sprinkler head to eject or force out foreign matter from within the sprinkler head. The sprinkler head may be a spinning sprinkler head including a vane deflector, and the spinning sprinkler head may include a portion that shifts in response to being struck by water such that a braking mechanism is engaged in response to the force of the water. When water flow ceases, the spinning head may shift towards the deformable member so that a portion of the spinning head is received within the deformable member to restrict foreign matter from entering the sprinkler head.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and system for applying a biologically active or chemical substance to a relatively large volume harvested or pre-harvested crop includes relatively small container of a mixture biologically active or chemical substance and water in fluid communication with fluid conduit. A pump moves mixture from the bottle through the conduit. A source of pressurized air is in fluid communication with the conduit to aerate the mixture. The aerated mixture is expelled through a nozzle at distal end of the conduit. In one aspect, the controller can monitor speed of the pump by monitoring operating voltage of the pump. Speed of the pump can be adjusted to adjust application rate. In one aspect, a process combines a flow of air through an orifice with the metering of a low volume of additive, such as an aid to preservation, to a crop as it is being cut or harvested to provide for even distribution of the additive to the crop.
