Accordingly, luminance of the liquid crystal display can be improved. When the normal data voltage of 0V is applied, the impulsive voltage at which the bending alignment of OCB liquid crystal is broken is set to the impulsive voltage at (for, corresponding to) the highest gray. There occurs a broken region (0-VB) where the bending alignment of the OCB liquid crystal is broken at a predetermined range that is higher than 0V. Abstract: A method is provided for compensating for output nonuniformity on a display. The method comprises characterizing the display. The method further includes creating a set of data tables wherein one table provides data for compensation along vertical axes of the display and a second table provided data for compensation along horizontal axes of the display, and wherein components of the tables include a linear offset factor to correct data for nonuniformity and a slope factor which permits gray scale information to be recovered at points near the limits of the gray scale range. The characterizing step may include using a optical detector to obtain optical output information from the display. The slope factor may be calculated to preserve top end gray scale range of the display by adjusting luminous output so that input data level maps to separate output grey levels between a truncated and an untruncated level.

Abstract: Systems and methods for identifying defective pixels and adjusting an input to control display of the defective pixels may improve the quality of the image viewed on a flat panel display including one or more defective pixels. The screen position of each defective pixel is identified and stored. Adjustment information is also stored for each defective pixel. The adjustment information is used to modify a stored color value for each defective pixel or to disable one or more color components of each defective pixel prior to displaying an image on a flat panel display device including the defective pixels.

Abstract: A method of providing data, an LCD and a driving method are disclosed. An image data voltage is inverted. A charge share voltage between the inverted image data voltages is used as a black data. The image data voltage and the black data voltage are applied in sequence, wherein the charge share voltage between the inverted image data voltages is applied as the black data voltage. Thus, motion blurring may be suppressed and manufacturing cost may be reduced because it is unnecessary to generate the black data voltage separately. Also, the typical driving frequency is used even if the black data voltage is used, to reduce cost.

Abstract: Disclosed is a common voltage regulating circuit of a liquid crystal display device which can be adjusted by software, comprising: a pulse signal generating means for outputting a pulse width modulation signal in response to up/down signal for adjusting a common voltage; a smoothing means for smoothing a pulse width modulation signal to a direct current level provided from the pulse signal generating means; and an amplifying means for amplifying the signal smoothed by the smoothing means to a predetermined level and then outputting a common voltage signal. Accordingly, since a common voltage can be adjusted by software by means of a surplus pulse width modulation signal generated in an integrated board without installing a separate hardware, the common voltage can be easily adjusted. Further, since a variable resistor has not been used, not only manufacturing cost but also possibility of breakage can be reduced.

Abstract: It is an object to provide a timing controller and an image display device which are capable of recognizing the resolution of a display panel with a simple structure. Image signal line driving devices include integrated plural driving circuits which are connected to one another in a cascade manner. Further, the image signal line driving devices are also connected to one another in a cascade manner. A timing controller transmits a horizontal start pulse to the image signal line driving device, then receives the returned horizontal start pulse returned thereto after being circulated through the driving circuits included in the image signal line driving devices and determines the resolution (the number of pixels) in the horizontal direction of the liquid crystal display panel based on the interval between the transmission and the reception of the start pulse.
