Abstract: LCD panel response time parameters are stored in local memory of the LCD panel, such as EDID ROM, for retrieval by an information handling system to use in adjusting visual information for presentation on the LCD panel. For instance, a response time compensation engine running on firmware in the graphics controller or in the operating system display driver applies the response time parameters to adjust visual information for improved image quality at the LCD panel. The response time parameters are, for instance, an average of response time of liquid crystal material applied to a non-linear approximation.

Abstract: When displaying moving images by using liquid crystal panels and others, a problem exists in that tail streaks occur, and image degradation is resultantly caused. To solve this problem, an echo suppression circuit divides a video signal into a pair composed of two successive frames for comparison between these two frames in signal level for the purpose of suppressing an echo phenomenon occurring when a liquid crystal panel displays video signals including moving images. If these two frames are not the same in signal level, the signal is accordingly corrected so as to equalize the signal level of these frames. Based on the video signals and others corrected by the echo suppression circuit, a controller operates the liquid crystal panel with AC drive through a source driver and a gate driver. As such, the drive voltage used to operate the liquid crystal panel with AC drive is adjusted so as to be balanced between positive and negative.

Abstract: A mobile information terminal has a front surface on which a display surface of a display device is arranged and a rear surface on which a plurality of operation keys are arranged. The mobile information terminal further has a half-depressing sensor for detecting that each of the operation keys is half-depressed and/or a touch sensor for detecting that each of the operation keys is touched. A control section executes a processing operation to cause the display device to display an image showing the arrangement of said operation keys and to change an icon which corresponds to a key of operation keys when a control section determines, according to an input signal from the half-depressing sensor or the touch sensor, that the finger of the operator is placed on this key of operation keys.

Abstract: A remote keyboard has keys which are illuminated for identification under a dim motherboard. For a first embodiment of the invention, the identifying symbol or symbols on each key cap of the keyboard is formed from luminescent material. Alternatively, the symbol or symbols on each key cap are formed from a translucent material in which tritium is embedded. Tritium, which has a half-life of about 12.5 years, emits low-energy beta particle radiation. The radiation, which is of sufficiently low energy that it may be blocked by a piece of paper, may be rendered innocuous by placing clear plastic radiation shields over each key cap. For a second embodiment of the invention, the key caps themselves are molded from luminescent material, while the symbols are formed from contrasting black or dark-colored non-luminescent material.

Abstract: A user interface for receiving inputs from a user includes a touch sensitive surface having a plurality of regions where each region corresponds to a switch having a function. The user interface also includes an interface disposed on the touch sensitive surface over at least one of the plurality of regions. The interface comprises a material that is at least partially transparent and that is configured to provide tactile feedback to the user. The touch sensitive surface may emit light that is visible through the interface. The interface may further include a plurality of buttons disposed over the plurality of regions wherein the light is selectively provided to each of the plurality of buttons. The touch sensitive surface may include a display that is configured to provide text and graphics that are visible through the interface. The user interface may be mounted in, for example, a vehicle.

Abstract: In the state where a card having a hole or a cut-out portion of a predetermined shape is placed on a touch panel of a game apparatus, a player performs an input operation along the hole or the cut-out portion. Then, the input operation is detected. It is determined whether or not the input operation on the touch panel has been performed using the card, based on the detected input track and determination information for determining whether or not the input operation has been performed along the hole or cut-out portion of the card which is placed on the touch panel. In accordance with the determination result, an event is generated. Thus, a novel input system, as a combination of a touch panel and a card, for generating an event which influences the progress of the game is realized.
