  • Publication number: 20070125545
Abstract: A method and apparatus for recycling drilling fluids used in the drilling of wells is provided. The apparatus comprises a tank with a plurality of compartments. Used drilling fluid containing well cuttings or “solids” is pumped into a receiving compartment of the tank and directed towards a flow-reversing barrier. Reversal of the flow causes heavier solids to settle to the bottom of the tank. As fluid fills the receiving compartment, it flows downstream into an adjacent compartment by passing through a flow-restricting baffle that causes more solids to settle to the bottom of the tank. As fluid overflows from compartment to compartment in the tank, it passes through successive flow-restricting baffles causing further solids to settle to the bottom of the tank. Fluid is removed from the collecting compartment of the tank to be used again in drilling operations.

Abstract: A valve for use in a downhole tool The valve has an inlet communicating with the work string from which it is anchored. The inlet provides a flow path of a first cross-sectional area. A sealing assembly comprising a spring biased seal cap moves within an outer tubular body to open and close a number of ports arranged through the body. The ports provide a flow path of a combined cross-sectional area greater than the first cross-sectional area and the valve is arranged such that fluid flow through the inlet moves the seal cap to open the valve and create an unimpeded flow path between the inlet and the ports with negligible pressure drop. An embodiment including a shear ring is described to facilitate pressure testing above. A further embodiment includes a load adjuster to assist in closing the valve. The valve can be a high lift injection valve.

Abstract: A high-pressure stripper rubber provides inserts and support members that cooperatively support the profile of the rubber against elastic deformation. The inserts dynamically cooperate to resist elastic deformation of the rubber due to down hole pressure. The stripper rubber has a generally cylindrical upper moiety and a dynamic, generally frusto-conical, lower moiety that cooperatively define a bore for receiving oilfield equipment. A generally ring-shaped adapter insert, at least partially within the stripper rubber, is disposed toward the upper moiety for attaching the stripper rubber to drilling head equipment. A structural retention insert assembly provides (1) one or more support members proximately, movably and selectively attached to the adapter insert, and (2) one or more structural retention inserts at least partially within the stripper rubber and distally attached to the one or more support members.

Abstract: A dust-control apparatus may be used in combination with tilling, cultivating, harvesting, construction machinery, and other mobile soil treatment implements. The apparatus applies mist to dust particles where the mist is created by pumping water or other liquid through nozzles. Because the apparatus is used in combination with the operation of the dust-generating machinery, the dust suppressing mist is applied nearly simultaneously to the generation of the dust by the agitation of the soil by the machinery. In one embodiment of the device, the operation of the pump or valves which control liquid flow to the nozzles is automatically activated by a optical sensor. The optical sensors cause either the starting of a pump or opening of a valve thereby increasing or decreasing the pressure and/or volume of the liquid upon the dust level reaching a preset trigger point as detected by the sensor.

Abstract: In electric vehicle control, system voltage stabilization control is executed to reduce the difference between a target value and detected value of a system voltage generated by a voltage boosting converter for an AC motor. Further, conversion power control is executed to reduce the difference between a command value and detected value of the conversion power, which is defined as the output power of the voltage boosting converter. A conversion power correction quantity is computed from an input power operation quantity of the system voltage stabilization control and reflected in the conversion power control to correct the conversion power. Thus, variations in a system voltage caused by an error or the conversion power control can be reduced.

Abstract: A bottom portion of a fuel tank of a motorcycle is prevented from being heated by engine heat to avoid an increase in fuel temperature. The fuel tank is behind and above the engine and a seat is behind the fuel tank. The seat includes a seat frame attached to the body frame and extending rearward, and a seat cushion mounted on the seat frame. The seat frame has an air introduction opening formed behind the seat cushion, and defines an air passage for guiding air introduced from the air introduction opening toward a bottom wall of the fuel tank.

Abstract: A fuel pump mounting arrangement for a motorcycle is provided in which the fuel pump is mounted to the vehicle body frame and in which the fuel pump is protected from impact without increasing the weight of a pivot plate. In the motorcycle, a main frame extends rearwardly from a head pipe, rear frames extend rearwardly from the main frame, and a central frame structure extends downwardly from the rear frames to form a space within the central frame structure. A pivot plate is mounted on a lower portion of the central frame structure, and a rear swing arm is supported on the pivot plate. In such a constitution, a fuel pump is arranged in the space which is formed by the central frame structure.

Abstract: A seat occupancy sensor comprises a pressure detection device associated with a surface of said seat and a control unit for communicating with the pressure detection device. According to the invention said pressure detection device comprises a surface acoustic wave device including at least one surface acoustic wave resonator and an antenna and said control unit comprises an RF antenna for remotely communicating with said surface acoustic wave device. In a first embodiment, the surface acoustic wave is adapted for detecting the pressure inside a sealed chamber. In a second embodiment, a pressure sensitive, switching device is connected to the surface acoustic wave device so as to activate the surface acoustic wave device when the pressure sensitive switching device is triggered.

Abstract: A seat switch for a seat having a resilient web includes means for sensing the presence of an operator sitting on the resilient web. The seat switch is operably connected to a vehicle circuit which may be for example an ignition system for the engine. The seat switch provides a signal to the vehicle circuit in response to sensing no operator present. The means for sensing may include a switch and a tension member mounted directly to the web. When an operator sits on the seat, the web stretches under the weight of the operator, which results in tension in the tension member. This tension activates the switch to send the operator-present signal to the vehicle circuit. When the operator's weight is removed from the seat, the tension is relieved from the resilient web and the switch discontinues the operator-present signal.

Abstract: A method for damage limitation in the event of an offset frontal collision between two motor vehicles, with a first signal which signals an imminent collision triggering the steerable front wheels (9, 10) to turn inward in opposite directions, is to minimize the impact-induced yaw moment. To this end, the steerable wheels are moved back to the initial position again after the collision or if the collision has not taken place at all. To this end, two actuators (17?, 17?) with an external power source are provided in the case of a vehicle which is equipped for this purpose, with each actuator being associated with a steerable wheel (9, 10).

This is accomplished with the creation of triangular ring that extends upward from the top edge of the voice coil bobbin with that ring mating with a flat diaphragm at a right angle directly above the top edge of the bobbin. The outer edge of the diaphragm connects to the inner edge of the surround at the point where a sloping side of the “triangle” is also connected and slopes down to the top edge of the bobbin where the opposite end is connected. The outer portion of the diaphragm provides the third side of the triangle.

Abstract: A piezoelectric vibrator generates attenuating waves in an air duct in an automobile HVAC system to cancel or reduce the noise created by sound waves. A processor converts a sinusoidal noise signal into an attenuation signal, which is the additive inverse of the sinusoidal noise signal. The processor may include an inverter or a phase-shifter to create the attenuation signal, as well as an amplifier to adjust the amplitude of the attenuation signal. The attenuation signal drives the piezoelectric vibrator.
