  • Patent number: 7229043
Abstract: A cable shortener apparatus for permitting the length adjustment of a cable having a certain incompressable diameter. The cable is arranged for supporting a sign carrier from an overhead support. The cable shortener apparatus may be comprised of a duplicate pair of generally rigid annular rings lockably engagable with one another. Each ring may have an inner arcuate hub flange which defines a fixed hub surface for receiving at least one wrap of a support cable. An annular edge on each of the rings is spaced apart from one another when the rings are mated together. The spaced apart annular edges defining a gap no wider than the diameter of the cable being wrapped about the hub of the shortener.

  • Patent number: 7229044
Abstract: An improved tension controller for a strand to achieve constant downstream tension regardless of tension variation in the upstream strand has a pair of tensioning plates (9, 10) between which the strand upstream (3), downstream (5) is compressed, generating frictional force for added tension. A selectable loading force is applied to the controller in the opposite direction to the movement of the strand. This loading force acts on a wedge between a movable tensioning plate and a fixed plate (9). The angle between the fixed plate (9) and the strand between the tensioning plates generates a compression force at a right angle toward the compressed strand for added tension. The incoming strand is deflected before it reaches its compressed stage between the tensioning plates. This strand deflection generates a force-component in the direction of the strand movement and reduces the loading force correspondingly.

  • Patent number: 7229045
Abstract: A store control device of an intermediate store carries, on a pivot mounting which is mounted on a chassis capable of travelling along a track, so as to be rotatable about a vertical axis through 360°, a pick-up device for a paper reel which has a continuous track section for holding a carriage loaded with a paper reel and raisable and lowerable claws arranged on both sides thereof. Storage tracks which are in the form of short stub tracks and have carriages and which form storage places for holding paper reels with axes oriented transversely to the track are arranged on both sides of the track. Before storage of a paper reel in the intermediate store, the pivot mounting is rotated so that the winding direction of the stored paper reel corresponds to a required value. The claws can also be formed so as to be longitudinally displaceable on both sides by at least a reel length, in which case only a support surface is provided between them and the storage places are equipped with stationary storage troughs.

  • Patent number: 7229046
Abstract: This invention is a servo mounting system, which allows a servo with a rotating output shaft to directly power an aircraft control surface. A specially designed servo mount securely positions the servo with the central axis of its rotational output shaft on, and axially aligned with, the hinge line of the control surface it drives. The servo shaft and servo body are directly connected to the airframe and control surface, thereby conserving rotational motion while driving control movement. Electronic means are then used to control the neutral point and the limit of travel of the servo. The system eliminates lost motion without generating adverse linear loads within the drive assembly.

  • Patent number: 7229048
Abstract: A hypersonic vehicle having in one or more embodiments a control surface that is movable to a deployed position. The control surface is movable in a pivotal manner that establishes a gap between the leading edge of the control surface and the outer surface of the vehicle to provide a flow path. The gap allows a boundary layer along the outer surface of the vehicle to pass through the flow path with out separation from the outer surface, to further improve the effectiveness of the control surface.

  • Patent number: 7229049
Abstract: An apparatus and method for installing a plurality of rotary actuator segments in a device includes a unitary hinge fitting. The unitary hinge fitting includes a first side couplable to a control surface, and a plurality of bays. Each bay is configured to receive at least one of the rotary actuator segments. The unitary hinge fitting reduces the number of components required to install rotary actuators by eliminating the shims, the shear clips, and some of the fasteners required to attach the shims and the shear clips to the hinge fittings. The resulting assembly is typically much simpler and lower in cost and weight than conventional rotary actuator installations.

  • Patent number: 7229066
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for mixing a gas and a liquid to produce a gaseous vapor of the liquid that is substantially free of droplets. Gas, e.g., carbon dioxide, is divided into first and second streams. The first stream is combined in an atomization zone with the liquid, e.g., acetic acid, to form an atomized mixture of the gas and liquid. This atomized mixture is then contacted with the second gas stream in a mixing zone within a mixing/separation chamber in which the second gas stream vaporizes substantially all of the atomized liquid, and the resulting mixture of gas, vaporized liquid and residual droplets moves to the separation zone of the mixing/separation chamber. In the separation zone, the residual droplets gravitationally separate from the vaporized mixture, and the vaporized mixture free of a substantial amount of residual droplets is removed from the chamber.

  • Patent number: 7229079
Abstract: A suspension system includes a fluid strut, an accumulator and a reservoir. The accumulator and reservoir are in fluid communication with the fluid strut through an accumulator valve and a reservoir valve respectively. A fluid pump pressurizes the accumulator with an incompressible fluid stored in the reservoir. A piston valve is located within a piston to selectively permit fluid communication between a high pressure side and a low pressure side of the piston. A controller operates each valve and the fluid pump to control flow of the incompressible fluid within the fluid strut to obtain an infinitely variable self centering suspension system.

  • Patent number: 7229086
Abstract: An improved vehicle sway control assembly designed to limit excessive side swaying of front engine rear axle driven motor vehicles during all driving conditions. The system utilizes two frame brackets (77), (97), one axle/spring bracket (129), and two rods (35), (67). The first rod (35) has one end attached to a frame bracket (77) and the other end to the axle/spring bracket (129). It incorporates a telescoping feature allowing the rod end nearest the frame bracket (77) to telescope. The second rod (67) is attached on the opposite side to a frame bracket (97) on one end and a mid section plate (34) on the telescoping rod (35) on the other end. The counter rotational arch of the second rod (67) will force the telescoping rod (35) to extend thus canceling the telescoping rod (35) arch curve travel if it were a solid rod. The overall design will limit axle (166) to frame (78) side movement while providing near straight vertical axle (166) travel.

  • Patent number: 7229088
Abstract: A shackle assembly is shown to include a shackle bracket, wear pads, a shackle stop, shackle plates and elastomer bushings. The shackle bracket includes legs forming portions thereof, which serve as contact surfaces for the wear pads and the shackle plates. By providing conical and lateral stiffness, the shackle bracket legs allow for the use of a more versatile elastomer bushing. The elastomer bushing preferably includes voids vertically separated with respect to each other and the elastomer layer preferably is in the form of a bowtie-shaped configuration, which enhances vertical, conical and torsional performance. A first redundancy feature is in the form of a shackle stop secured between the shackle plates. The shackle stop provides longitudinal control of the axle in the event the opposite limb of the leaf spring is broken, the vehicle is generally traveling in a given direction and the vehicle is subject to deceleration.

Abstract: A foldable bicycle is provided. One feature of the foldable bicycle is that the central portion of the frame that defines the bicycle's geometry is substantially rigid. That is, the down tube, seat tube, top tube and bearing tube are substantially fixed relative to each other. Another feature of the foldable bicycle is that the front wheel can be folded into a position between the down tube, which is comprised of two tubes. Yet another feature is a tandem bicycle configuration that does not extend the length of the frame or the wheelbase.
