  • Patent number: 7234294
Abstract: Method and arrangement for providing an outlet nozzle (10) for use in a liquid fuel rocket engine. The nozzle forms a body of revolution having an axis (11) of revolution and a cross section that varies in diameter along said axis. The nozzle has a wall structure having a plurality of mutually adjacent cooling channels, helically extending substantially in parallel from the inlet end (13) of the nozzle to its outlet end (14). The nozzle includes at least two longitudinally arranged sections (10a, 10b, 10c). A shift between a positive and a negative channel angle in the transition from one section to an adjacent section balances any roll momentum generated by friction of rocket exhausts against the nozzle wall.

  • Patent number: 7234297
Abstract: Sound and power are an important part of the motorcycling experience. From the early days people have been attempting to get it “right” and have tried numerous ways to achieve the best of both worlds. Generally one had to be sacrificed to some degree to get the other. Tuning the exhaust rather than tuning the carburetor or increasing cubic inches is a less expensive and more efficient way to get both the sound and midrange power that motorcyclists are looking for. With the exhaust enhancement device of the present invention, exhaust pipes can be tuned for sound and increased midrange power very simply and easily by installing them in the exit end of an aftermarket straight type pipe using various combinations to achieve a desired sound and not sacrifice power.

  • Patent number: 7234299
Abstract: An integrated hydraulic transaxle (IHT) comprises a hydrostatic transmission (HST), an axle driven by the HST, and a housing incorporating the HST and the axle. The HST includes a variable displacement hydraulic pump driven by a prime mover, and a hydraulic motor fluidly connected to the hydraulic pump. The hydraulic pump has a trunnion type movable swash plate. The internal displacement of the hydraulic motor is larger than the internal displacement of the hydraulic pump so as to increase the hydraulic deceleration activity of the HST. In the IHT, a mechanical deceleration drive train is interposed between the hydraulic motor and the axle. The mechanical deceleration activity of the mechanical deceleration drive train is reduced so far as the increase of the hydraulic deceleration activity of the HST.

  • Patent number: 7234311
Abstract: A heat pump is provided with a method and control for eliminating compressor un-powered reverse rotation at shutdown. In particular, the position of the four-way reversing valve is changed and the heat pump is moved to the opposite mode of operation as compared to the one it had been operated before shutdown. The compressed refrigerant, that might otherwise re-expand through the compressor and cause the compressor to run in reverse, is now communicated to the suction line of the compressor, while the discharge port of the compressor communicates with a refrigerant at suction pressure. Thus the unpowered reverse rotation of the compressor is no longer possible.

Abstract: Methods and apparatuses for controlling systems of cryogenic centrifugal compressors. A predetermined curve in the form of a first parameter as a function of a second parameter is selected. The first parameter represents the rotational speed of a compressor, and the second parameter represents the mass for rate of that compressor. The speed of rotation of a downstream compressor is regulated according to the value of the suction pressure of an upstream compressor and a variable set pressure. The plug body includes a plurality of spring-loaded pins and the carrier assembly includes a plurality of racks for engaging the pins to operate the lock cylinder. The racks and pins move in a transverse direction, in response to insertion of a first valid key into the lock cylinder, to unlock the lock cylinder. The carrier moves in a longitudinal direction, in response to insertion of a tool in a tool-receiving aperture, from an operating position to a rekeying position. In the rekeying position, the racks are disengaged from the pins and a second valid key can replace the first valid key. Rotation of the plug body from the rekeying position with the second valid key in the lock cylinder obsoletes the first valid key.

Abstract: A saddle for a backing assembly in a rolling mill has non-cylindrical bearing surfaces that accommodate wear by allowing the saddles to self-align. The non-cylindrical bearing surfaces help prevent the needle bearings from being pinched and driven into the gear rings. The non-cylindrical bearing surfaces are provided in different locations such as intermediate the eccentric and eccentric ring or intermediate the eccentric ring and the saddle ring.

  • Patent number: 7234335
Abstract: According to a method for producing head elements for heaters, a piece of sheet metal (1) is deep drawn and cut along the edge (9) of an open side (6) to obtain a hollow body (8) with larger and narrower sides (4,5,14,15). An aperture (12) is made on each opposite larger side (4,5) of the hollow body, and threaded rings (26) are then applied around the lateral through apertures (12). Notches (16) are made on the opposite large sides (4,5), along the edge (9) of the open side (6), and then three cores (18) are introduced through the edge (9), so that a flange (17) around the notches (16) can be made by pressing, so as to close the sheet metal (1) around the cores (18) widening the notches (16). After the cores (18) have been removed, the edge (9) is welded along the flange (17) of the widened notches (16), thus obtaining holes (21) separated from each other.

  • Patent number: 7234336
Abstract: A method and a tool are provided for producing structural parts from sheet metal which have a vault-structured stiffening zone and adjacent, flat connection zones. The starting point for producing these structural parts is vault-structured blanks which are smoothed in the region of the connection zones in the course of the forming, whereas the vault structure is retained unchanged in the region of the stiffening zone. These structural parts are produced by an embossing tool which has a die and a two-piece punch including of a fixing punch and a forming punch. In the process, the blank is first of all fixed relative to the fixing punch in the region of the vault-structured stiffening zone by a fixing element which is in a leading position with respect to the die. The connection zones are then shaped between the punch and the forming punch.

Abstract: A punch press that provides an arrangement of a motor and a crank mechanism so that the motor does not project far from the side of a frame. The punch press includes a servo motor, a ram which drives a press tool, a crank mechanism which converts a rotating motion transmitted to a crank shaft into an elevating and lowering operation of the ram, and a drive transmitting mechanism which transmits rotation of the servo motor to the crank shaft while reducing rotation speed. The servo motor is next to the crank mechanism and its rotating axis is parallel to the axis of the crank shaft. The drive transmitting mechanism includes servo motor side gears joined to respective output shafts of the servo motor. The servo motor side gears respectively engage, directly or via intermediate gears, with crank side gears joined to the crank shaft.

  • Patent number: 7234342
Abstract: A controller for cantilever-based instruments, including atomic force microscopes, molecular force probe instruments, high-resolution profilometers and chemical or biological sensing probes. The controller samples the output of the photo-detector commonly used to detect cantilever deflection in these instruments with a very fast analog/digital converter (ADC). The resulting digitized representation of the output signal is then processed with field programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors without making use of analog electronics. Analog signal processing is inherently noisy while digital calculations are inherently “perfect” in that they do not add any random noise to the measured signal. Processing by field programmable gate arrays and digital signal processors maximizes the flexibility of the controller because it can be varied through programming means, without modification of the controller hardware.
