Abstract: In a display control drive device that displays an image on a display device, a data transfer rate may vary depending on received image data because of a difference in an image size. Assuming that driving force with which a driver or an amplifier is driven is designed based on a maximum data transfer rate and the driver or amplifier is operated with the driving force, when the transfer rate is low, an unnecessary current is consumed. According to the present invention, a display control drive device sequentially reads display data from a display memory in which the display data is stored, produces three primary color image signals that are applied to pixel locations in a dot-matrix color display device, and transmits the signals through a common external output terminal in a time-sharing manner.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device is provided which is capable of improving display quality of moving images. In the liquid crystal display device, every time a driving pulse voltage is generated by a backlight driving circuit in synchronization with a timing signal fed from a lighting timing control section and is applied to a backlight and a scanning signal is applied to each scanning electrode of a liquid crystal panel, the backlight is turned OFF during a period before completion of a response of each liquid crystal molecule to application of a display signal and is turned ON at time of the completion of the response. When displacement of each of the liquid crystal molecules is large and therefore the change in light transmittance is large, the backlight is turned OFF and, therefore, no change in luminance on a display screen occurs, as a result, contrast of images can be improved.

Abstract: There are disclosed methods for driving liquid crystal display apparatuses for certainly completing in a short time to performing a transition of liquid crystal molecules to a displayable alignment in liquid crystal display apparatuses such that an initial alignment of the liquid crystal molecules is different from the displayable alignment, typically an optically compensated bend mode liquid crystal display apparatus. A voltage is applied to a liquid crystal layer until display area in the liquid crystal layer is transformed to the displayable alignment. After the completion of the transition, a backlight is switched on to shift to a display-driving mode. In order to complete the transition in a short time, voltage pulse under the conditions (such as a frequency and a voltage value) determined in accordance with a temperature of a liquid crystal panel is applied to the liquid crystal layer.

Abstract: An image is updated on a bi-stable display (310) such as an electrophoretic display by using cyclic rail-stabilized driving, where an image transition is realized either directly via a single drive pulse (D1), or indirectly via a reset pulse (R) and a drive pulse (D2) of opposite polarity. First shaking pulses (S1) are applied to the bi-stable display, when the at least one image transition is realized indirectly, e.g., during at least a portion of the reset pulse and/or the drive pulse of opposite polarity. Furthermore, second shaking pulses (S2) are applied prior to the single drive pulse, or prior to the reset pulse and the drive pulse of opposite polarity. The shaking pulses in either case may include initial shaking pulses (810, 820) and final shaking pulses (815, 825), which have a reduced energy.
