Abstract: A method for recording data freshness degrees by a tape drive is disclosed. During the recording of a set of data and a data freshness degree associated with the set of data a tape recording medium, a determination is made as to whether or not a fault occurs during the recording. In response to a determination that a fault occurs during the recording, a data freshness degree of data within a faulty portion on the tape recording medium is obtained. The data freshness degree of the set of data is then immediately recorded before the faulty portion on the tape recording medium. The data freshness degree is higher than the data freshness degree of data within the faulty portion.

Abstract: A modularized computer system includes multiple independent devices including a mini computer host, a power supply, an optical disk drive, a hard disk drive, and a television signal processor connected mutually. Thus, the heat produced by the mini computer host is easily dissipated by the cooling fan, so that the cooling fan needs not to operate at high speed, thereby enhancing the working efficiency of the cooling fan and reducing the noise produced during operation of the cooling fan. In addition, the heat produced by each independent device of the modularized computer system is dissipated by itself so that the heat produced by the modularized computer system is dissipated rapidly, thereby solving the heat dissipation problems.

Abstract: A perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) head is fabricated with a pole tip shielded laterally by a separated pair of side shields and shielded from above by an upper shield. The side shields are formed by a RIE process using specific gases applied to a shield layer through a masking layer formed of material that has a slower etch rate than the shield material. A masking layer of Ta, Ru/Ta, TaN or Ti, formed on a shield layer of NiFe and using RIE gases of CH3OH, CO or NH3 or their combinations, produces the desired result. The differential in etch rates maintains the opening dimension within the mask and allows the formation of a wedge-shaped trench within the shield layer that separates the layer into two shields. The pole tip is then plated within the trench and, being aligned by the trench, acquires the wedge-shaped cross-section of the trench. An upper shield is then formed above the side shields and pole.

Abstract: A method for reestablishing the electrical continuity of an electrically conductive layer of a composite aircraft wing damaged by a lightning strike or other mechanical event is disclosed in which a copper patch replaced the damaged section of the electrically conductive layer contained. The repair is performed by first removing any surfacers, fasteners, and damaged electrically conductive layer to expose a portion of the underlying composite skin. A copper patch having a copper foil section coupled to an unsupported film adhesive is then introduced onto an underlying composite skin opening contained within an undamaged section of a copper foil grid and covered with resin-impregnated fiberglass material. The film adhesive and resin-impregnated fiberglass material are then cured and fasteners are then reinserted within the fiberglass material, copper patch and underlying composite skin. The surface of the composite wing is then reprimed and repainted to complete the repair.

Abstract: A capacitor material including a thermosetting resin (e.g., epoxy resin), a high molecular mass flexibilizer (e.g., phenoxy resin), and a quantity of nano-particles of a ferroelectric ceramic material (e.g., barium titanate), the capacitor material not including continuous or semi-continuous fibers (e.g., fiberglass) as part thereof. The material is adapted for being positioned in layer form on a first conductor member and heated to a predetermined temperature whereupon the material will not possess any substantial flaking characteristics. A second conductor member may then be positioned on the material to form a capacitor member, which then may be incorporated within a substrate to form a capacitive substrate. Electrical components may be positioned on the substrate and capacitively coupled to the internal capacitor.

Abstract: The present invention is an electrode for electric double layer capacitors wherein a polarizable porous sheet composed of constituent materials including a carbonaceous electric double layer-forming material, a carbon material for ensuring conductivity, and a binder is integrated to at least one surface of a collector via a conductive intermediate layer; and is characterized in that the conductive intermediate layer contains a synthetic rubber and two more kinds of carbon materials having different particle diameters. According to the present invention, the electrode can be readily manufactured in a continuous manner with high heat resistant adhesion between the polarizable porous sheet and the collector and a low internal resistance; and when used in an electric double layer capacitor, it is possible to obtain an electrode capable of ensuring a higher capacity and lower internal resistance than is conventionally achieved.

Abstract: In a display apparatus, a text code input section outputs externally-supplied text code information to a font conversion section and a voice synthesizer section. The font conversion section converts the input text code into a corresponding font, and transmits the font to a display drive section via a video signal input section, and the display drive section causes a display section to display the font. Meanwhile, the voice synthesizer section converts the input text code into corresponding voice data, and transmits the voice data to a voice device where the voice data is outputted. With this structure, superior convenience is ensured for a display apparatus which serves only as an individual displaying apparatus and relies on an external device (server) for the major functions of the system.
