  • Patent number: 7255517
Abstract: A method for deploying a floating platform includes storing buoys on a hull of the platform. Tension devices are mounted to the hull, each being connected by a line to one of the buoys. The operator tows the hull to a ballast down site while the buoys are stored on the hull. While adding ballast to the hull, the operator feeds out the lines from the tension devices at a selected tension. The hull moves downward in the water while the buoys float at the surface to maintain stability during the ballasting. The buoys are detached from the lines after the hull is ballasted to a desired depth.

  • Patent number: 7255518
Abstract: A tool body includes an insert seat for receiving a cutting insert for chip-removing machining. The insert seat includes a bottom surface and support surfaces upstanding from the bottom surface. Each support surface comprises at least three ridges separated by grooves. Each groove has a depth greater than zero and no greater than 0.015 mm. An insert mounted in the seat by a screw has a center hole whose axis is offset from the axis of a threaded hole of the body in which the screw is connected. That offset distance creates a prestress of the insert toward the ridges. The depth of the grooves (i.e., the height of the ridges) is substantially less than the distance of the offset.

  • Patent number: 7255535
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to various cooling systems for a turbine vane made of stacked ceramic matrix composite (CMC) laminates. Each airfoil-shaped laminate has an in-plane direction and a through thickness direction substantially normal to the in-plane direction. The laminates have anisotropic strength characteristics in which the in-plane tensile strength is substantially greater than the through thickness tensile strength. Such a vane construction lends itself to the inclusion of various cooling features in individual laminates using conventional manufacturing and forming techniques. When assembled in a radial stack, the cooling features in the individual laminates can cooperate to form intricate three dimensional cooling systems in the vane.

  • Patent number: 7255553
Abstract: A light guide plate mold core (1) includes a main body (13) having a molding surface (12) and a plurality of concavities (13a) formed at the molding surface. The main body is made of a material whose thermal conductivity is limited in the range from 0.002 cal/cm.s.K. (calories/centimeter.second.Kelvin) to 0.009 cal/cm.s.K. The thermal conductivity of the material for the light guide plate mold core is less than that of stainless steel. Therefore the rate of spreading of heat in the light guide plate mold core is lower than that of a conventional light guide plate mold core, so that stresses within a formed light guide plate can be released more. Thus by using the light guide plate mold core, a light guide plate having a highly even bottom surface can be manufactured. A method for manufacturing the light guide plate mold core is also provided.

Abstract: An anthropomorphic phantom used as a training tool by healthcare workers for learning ultrasonic imaging procedures. The phantom is made of a moldable, elastomeric tissue-simulating chemical composition that may be easily processed to create an anthropomorphic phantom: that has the “look and feel” and self-sealing characteristics of human tissue. During the mixing processes, scattering agents and pigments may be added to provide a phantom that simulates the sonographic characteristics on living tissue. The phantom body may contain objects and empty or liquid filled cavities and conduits that simulate normal internal structures and abnormal artifacts and conditions. In one embodiment, hollow rods are disposed longitudinally inside the primary mold that forms blood vessels inside the phantom. When the phantom is removed from the primary mold, the hollow rods are removed thereby forming a hollow conduit.
