Abstract: Embodiments disclosed herein address the need in the art for reduced overhead control with the ability to adjust transmission rates as necessary. In one aspect, a first signal indicates an acknowledgement of a decoded subpacket and whether or not a rate control command is generated, and a second signal conditionally indicates the rate control command when one is generated. In another aspect, a grant may be generated concurrently with the acknowledgement. In yet another aspect, a mobile station monitors the first signal, conditionally monitors the second signal as indicated by the first signal, and may monitor a third signal comprising a grant. In yet another aspect, one or more base stations transmit one or more of the various signals. Various other aspects are also presented. These aspects have the benefit of providing the flexibility of grant-based control while utilizing lower overhead when rate control commands are used, thus increasing system utilization, increasing capacity and throughput.

Abstract: In a mobile telephone terminal at the transmitting end, voice data to be transmitted are sequentially inputted, and it is determined whether the inputted voice data are silent. The voice data regarded as silent voice are replaced by group numbers, while the voice data indicative of sonant voice as well as the group numbers as replaced are transmitted by wireless. On the other hand, in a mobile telephone terminal at the receiving end, the signals transmitted by wireless are received, and the voice data and group numbers of the received signals are discriminated. The voice data are reproduced as they are, while the group numbers are reproduced as silent, and further processings based on the group numbers are executed. This allows predetermined data to be repetitively transmitted with a high efficiency without degrading communication quality very much. This also facilitates a follow-up participation in a group call.

Abstract: Disclosed is an SSC controller that exercises control to supply a control signal to a phase interpolator which receives an input clock signal and varies the phase of an output clock signal in accordance with the control signal, and to frequency-modulate the output clock signal. In an SSC controller, a counting operation control circuit outputs a counting operation control signal that controls count enable and disable. A p-counter receives a frequency-divided clock signal from a frequency divider and counts the signal when the counting operation control signal from the counting operation control circuit indicates count enable. Upon counting up to a predetermined first value, the counting operation control circuit generates a first output signal and sets its count value to zero. When the counting operation control signal indicates count disable, the p-counter stops counting.

Abstract: A novel mechanism for avoiding RF collisions using frequency synchronization techniques. In one embodiment, a solution to the problem comprises dividing the channel map into different channel groups wherein each group includes a minimum number of channels. The composition of the channel groups depends on the number of piconets and the number of good and bad available channels. Thus, collisions are avoided by assigned each piconet a channel group where the channels in one group do not overlap the channels in other groups. As the channel map changes over time, the channel groups are dynamically updated with the new good and bad channels. In a second embodiment, all the neighboring piconets are configured to use the same channel sequence order. Each piconet, however, is assigned a different starting frequency (i.e. channel). Thus, collisions are avoided since at any instance in time, no two piconets are using the same channel.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods of implementing code space search of received signals are described herein. A code space search is implemented as a searcher that perform a subtask that is dynamically reconfigurable at each boundary of an initial integration time. Each particular subtask sets forth a programmable configuration of coherent integration hypothesis that are performed during the initial integration time. The searcher stores the results of the coherent integration hypothesis in a first portion of memory. A search accelerator operates on the initial integration results. The search accelerator can perform coherent integration of various frequency bins of different timing hypothesis, can generate energy values of the coherent integration results, and can generate a non-coherent energy summation. The energy values of the coherent integrations and non-coherent energy summations are stored in a second portion of memory.

Abstract: In a multi-user detection receiver, a multi-user detector DET receives a signal from a multiple access channel MA and the current soft estimates of each user's contribution to the received signal, and outputs updated soft estimates for each user by subtracting the current soft estimates of all the interfering users. The updated soft estimate or soft demodulated by soft demodulators DEM1 . . . DEMK, the coded by soft decoders DEC1 . . . DECK which refine the probabilities of the coded bits derived from the soft demodulators DEM1 . . . DEMK, by taking into account the knowledge of the code, and output to soft modulators M1 . . . MK. For each iteration of the MUD receiver algorithm, an acquisition function ACQ acquires the timing of the estimates of each user's contribution to the channel for use by the detector DET in the next iteration, giving improved acquisition performance over conventional single-user techniques.

Abstract: A method for detecting inductive elements in a communication line, including the processes of: inputting a detecting signal to an end of the communication line; sampling the time domain voltage vector of one end of the communication line; generating the amplitude-frequency characteristic curve of the differential input impedance of one end of the communication line according to the time domain voltage vector; determining the number of the inductive elements in the communication line according to the number of the apexes or zeros on the curve. The present invention also discloses a device for detecting inductive elements in a communication line. By the present invention, the automatic detections of the number of inductive elements such as load coils or phone splitters in the communication line are implemented with the exact detection and the high efficiency, thereby lowering the cost of detecting failures of communication line.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for adaptively establishing the optimal sampling phase offset for a DFE operation. According to one aspect of the invention, one or more values in an amplitude domain are converted into a time domain, for example, using a phase detector, based on phase information to provide said sampling phase. The values in the amplitude domain optionally comprise one or more of detected DFE data, ?(n) and a sign of an error term for detected DFE data. The sampling phase can establish the phase of an independent clock or an offset to a second clock, such as a clock recovered from a received signal by a clock and data recovery (CDR) circuit.

Abstract: When a moving picture is encoded with a high compression ratio by the MPEG, the block noise becomes remarkable. Matching is calculated between the first and the second key frame and corresponding point information is generated. According to this corresponding point information, a virtual second key frame is generated. A difference between the actual second key frame and the virtual second key frame is compressed/encoded by a difference encoder. The first key frame, the corresponding point information, and the compressed/encoded difference are outputted as encoded data between the first and second key frame.
