Abstract: A method and unit for composing or decomposing a multimedia signal according to the Musical Instrument Digital Interface (MIDI) protocol. The signal carries events of a first type, which are arranged to carry instructions regarding which predefined patches to use for playback and which predefined notes to play, and events of a second type which carry additional content. The signal is parsed to identify events of the second type and to read the additional content. Coded samples of multimedia content are loaded at an address specified in the additional content. The coded samples are then decoded to provide the samples for playback of the multimedia content. In this manner, vocal song or vocals and other audio type signals are efficiently conveyed utilizing the widely used MIDI protocol.

Abstract: A system for handling gates and the like including a dual-effect hydraulic actuator with a stem traversing one of its chambers and a supply circuit controlled with oil which alternately moves the oil between the actuator chambers for an ‘opening’ or ‘closing’ movement. The circuit includes a pump for transfer of the oil between the chambers through piloted locking one-way valves, an oil tank and two one-way suction valves each connected between the tank and one of the two sides of the pump for allowing suction from the tank of the lacking oil. The suction valve connected from the side of the pump opposite the actuator chamber not traversed by the stem is a one-way valve controlled in such a manner as to open thanks to an overpressure on the hydraulic circuit branch which is for supply of the actuator chamber traversed by the stem. In this manner the oil in excess during movement of the actuator which is caused by transfer of the oil from the stemless chamber to the chamber with stem is dumped into the tank.

Abstract: Pressure trapped in an inactive hydraulic actuator can result in the actuator moving in a direction which is opposite to that desired upon subsequent activation. The present method detects a trapped pressure condition and takes remedial action before activating the hydraulic actuator for motion. The pressure differentials across valves that control the fluid flow to and from the hydraulic actuator are used to detect a trapped pressure condition. In response to that detection, a selected valve is initially opened in a manner that releases the trapped pressure while producing motion in the desired direction. After the trapped pressure condition has been resolved, one or more other valves are operated to produce the desired motion of the hydraulic actuator.

These microporous organic polymers are referred to as “polymers of intrinsic microporosity” or PIMs. The high flux membranes are promising for a wide range of separations including liquid separations such as pervaporation of phenol/water and also gas separations in the petrochemical, refinery, and natural gas industries such as methane/carbon dioxide, olefin/paraffin and iso/normal paraffins separations.

Abstract: This invention describes a new concept of flexible template-directed microporous partially pyrolyzed polymeric membranes which have greatly improved performance in separation of gas pairs compared to their precursor polymeric membranes. Organic hosts, such as crown ethers, cyclodextrins (CDs), calixarenes (CXs), and spherands, or polymeric additives, such as poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) were used as the micropore-forming templates. Micropore-forming template/polymer blend membranes comprising organic micropore-forming templates embedded in a polymer matrix were prepared by dissolving the organic micropore-forming templates in the polymer solution followed by solution-casting and solvent evaporation or solvent exchange. Low-temperature selectively pyrolyzing micropore-forming templates in the micropore-forming template/polymer blend membranes at a nitrogen flow resulted in the formation of flexible microporous partially pyrolyzed polymeric membranes.

Abstract: A high capacity adsorbent may be used for enriching oxygen concentration in an air stream. Such a high capacity adsorbent may be from about 2 to about 3 times lighter relative to the currently available technology. Furthermore, the high capacity adsorbent is readily capable of regeneration after deactivation by water vapor. Unlike current available immobilization technology in which clay binder was used to bind 13X zeolite and additional 10% organic binder was used to immobilize beads, the adsorbents of the present invention may be made using just an organic binder, thereby reducing pore spoilage caused by the clay binder. Further unlike conventional adsorbents, which may use sodium as its cation, the adsorbent of the present invention uses a lithium cation, thereby resulting in enhanced nitrogen adsorption performance.

Abstract: A method of regenerating liquid desiccant used in the dehydration or sweetening of gases. A first step involves boiling wet liquid desiccant containing water to create lean liquid desiccant. A second step involves introducing the lean liquid desiccant via a liquid seal pot into a water exhausting stripping column. The hot lean liquid desiccant cascades down the stripping column and evolving equilibrium vapors rise up the stripping column. A third step involves directing the rising equilibrium vapor into a condenser in which the vapor undergoes cooling with a resulting phase change back to liquid. The phase change from vapor to liquid reduces pressure in the condenser, which draws more evolving vapor from the lean liquid desiccant cascading down the stripping column upwards into the condenser, thereby further reducing the water content of the lean liquid desiccant to create a very lean liquid desiccant.

Abstract: A yard waste tamper apparatus comprises a conical body having a tamping end and a connecting end. The tamping end has a slightly convex face with protruding nipples spaced out over the face. The connecting end is integrated into the body and has an opening to a conical insertion channel having a larger diameter at the opening. The tamper apparatus is designed to accept a rake handle inserted into the opening and the tamper apparatus and is held on the rake handle by a pressure fit with the conical insertion channel. Thus, the waste tamper can fit on the end of various diameter rake handles because the diminishing diameter of the insertion channel facilitates a universal fit. Once attached to the rake, a user can use the tamper apparatus to compact leaves and light yard waste into a waste container.

Further, the vessel (9) is provided with a vacuum pump (11) for exhausting air from the vessel (9). A magnetic flux generated by the coil (7) penetrates the metallic thin film (1) of the metallic thin film chip (10) placed on the placement table (5). When the magnetic flux penetrates the metallic thin film (1), an eddy current is induced in the metallic thin film (1) due to electromagnetic induction.

Abstract: An ink fountain roller has a metal core and a plasma coating that is applied by plasma immersion ion implantation. The coating has a total surface energy of 35 mN/m or less, and a polar component of less than 7 mN/m. The coating is applied in a vacuum chamber by generating a metal plasma over the core, wherein the metal has a valence of +4 or +6 and is preferably at least one of titanium, molybdenum, and zirconium. Positive ions in the plasma are accelerated toward the core by applying negative high voltage pulses (5-15 kV) with very short pulse rise times (<1 ?sec) to the plasma, thereby causing positive ions in the plasma to be implanted in the core. An intermediate layer of metal or ceramic may be applied to the core prior to applying the plasma coating.
