Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for the exchange of an old working belt (1) on a machine for production of a web, for example a paper web, for a new working belt (13). According to the invention, the exchange is simplified, whereby the track start of the new belt is connected to the old belt, the old belt is made to circulate and thus draws the new belt around such that the new belt adopts the position of the old belt. A joint is then made between two facing ends of the new belt. Said drawing device is embodied such as to permit the old belt for exchange to be pushed from one side of the machine. The device comprises a frame (12) with two transverse elements (12.2, 12.3), which enclose the old belt between them in the assembled state. One transverse element (12.2) supports a roll (13.1) of the new belt and the other transverse element (12.3) supports a winding device (18) for winding on the old belt.

Abstract: An expandable downhole tool is disclosed that employs naturally occurring organic matter as the expandable material. The expandable material is located within an enclosure formed in part by an impermeable element, which may form a hydraulic seal, and a permeable membrane that permits fluids present in the wellbore to pass and interact with the organic matter. The heat and fluids present within the wellbore may cause the expandable matter to swell, and thus causing the enclosure to swell and possibly form a hydraulic seal against a wellbore or inner annulus. The expandable tool may be used as packer, plug, or other downhole tool, among others. Methods of manufacturing and using such tools are also disclosed.

Abstract: A sprinkler system comprises a network of CPVC conduits and a plurality of sprinklers. The system includes an electrically activated solenoid control valve to allow fluid to flow in the pipe network. One or more fire detectors operate independently of the condition of the sprinklers. Upon detection of an incipient fire situation, a fire detector sends an electrical signal to cause activation of the control valve. Upon activation of the control valve, fire suppression fluid is caused to flow through the conduits before the incipient fire situation matures into a sprinkler-triggering event. The cooling effect of fluid flowing through the conduit enables the conduit to resist structural failure prior to sprinkler deployment. The control valve may be disposed at a remote location in the sprinkler line and be operable as part of an inspector's test connection.

Abstract: A sprinkler of the compressed strut and lever type wherein the motion of the lever is limited is disclosed. The sprinkler includes a compression member that compresses a strut against a sealing member that closes the outlet of the sprinkler. One end of a lever is positioned between the compression member and the strut. The opposite end is positioned in proximity to an abutment surface on the sprinkler. The opposite end is engageable with the abutment surface which limits motion of the lever and maintains an offset between the strut and the compression member that renders the strut and lever an unstable mechanism. A frangible link extends between the strut and the lever. The link separates in response to an increase in temperature indicative of a fire condition.

Abstract: An attachment for use in assisting a user in supporting a tool on the hand and arm of the user, the tool having a tool width and a transverse central longitudinal axis includes a hand grip that is connected to the tool via a pair of braces. The length of the hand tool is such to accomodate a user's hand, and is substantially perpendicular to said longitudinal axis of the tool. A kick bar is connected to the tool along the longitudinal axis of the tool and between the braces. When the user grasps the hand grip by inserting fingers between the hand grip and the tool, the kick bar will rest on the arm of the user to bear the weight of the tool. A power switch may be incorporated into the handle or braces for engagement by the user to control operation of the tool.

Abstract: A modular vehicle cable system for adapting military vehicles with the MILES 2000 Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System used by the United States Armed Forces and other armed forces around the world for training purposes is disclosed. A modular vehicle cable system is provided to allow the user the ability to troubleshoot, remove, and replace certain sections of the system quicker and easier than previously allowed. The design also allows for the installation of additional systems with only minor modifications. The modular vehicle cable system not only makes a cable system more reliable through inherent design, but also allows the user the ability to remove and replace a specific portion of a cable system without disrupting the other systems associated with a cable system. The modular nature of the cable system reduces maintenance and repair times by enabling rapid diagnosis and replacement of defective cable components and sections thereby maximizing training exercises by minimizing vehicle down time.
